Disconnect users for a distinct period of time?
Hi -- Today, I've learned who to disable incoming mail delivery to dovecot (accepted by postfix), temporarily. Now, I would like to know if there is a way to make a "doveadm kick -A" a permanent disconnect until one would allow reconnects, again? This should be done *without* shutting down dovecot or *extensive* re-configuration. A "doveadm block -u <joe> -m 'sorry:

disconnect a user
I need to disconnect some samba connections to my linux redhat server. I searched online and found these two tips but neither work: 1. Set the deadtime parameter to specific time in the smb.conf file my smb.conf file does not have the parameter deadtime listed 2. Use kill command to kill the smbd PID. Kill -15 <PID> I tried that and after killing my own connection I could still open and

Using an external database behind a firewall
Hi everyone, There''s a separate database I''m using to get mail group info for our users (Sympa), and I''ve got Rails configured to pull data directly from it via an entry in database.yml The issue we''re having is that the database server in question is behind an internal firewall that has idle timeouts set at 30 minutes. If the connection isn''t used

mongrel stops responding after period of no use
I just moved from apache2/fcgi to apache2.2/mongrel and everything seems to work great except for 2 issues, one being major and one minor. the major issue i am experiencing is that after a period of time where my rails apps are not used, typically overnight, the mongrel processes become unresponsive. I currently have 3 apps running behind an apache2.2 proxy. every morning when i come in to

Deadtime parameter questsion
Hello samba gurus ! I'm using samba 3.0.21c on AIX 5.3 box . I've specified deadtime=15 in my smb.conf file and I'm expecting that inactive sessions ( has no open files ) will be closed after 15 minutes . I'm connecting to samba from my PC ( win2000 ) , minimizing the window and waiting 15 minutes ... but nothing happens - smbd opened by my connection is still running , window

Disconnect IMAP session after certain time?
Is it possible to have Dovecot cleanly terminate an IMAP session after a certain time? I have a number of users who leave their MUA (Mozilla Thunderbird) on all night, and I'd like to have them (cleanly) disconnect in order to free up resources after a certain "inactivity" time (e.g. 2 hours). Can that be done? -JP

Force ip disconnect after register?
Is there a way to drop a ip connection to asterisk after a number of register attempts. I have been having issues with hackers doing registration scanning against our server. We block their address at the fire wall but since asterisk does not force a drop of the connect after so many bad reg attempts I can't enforce the block until they drop and try again. This allows them to run the box

Explorer & MS Office hang
I'm running samba 2.0.7 on Solaris 2.6. We've have terrific success for well over a year with samba until about a week ago I started receiving reports that users could not open MS Office docs saved on a samba share. The samba logs are full of information about oplocks like this: [2001/03/07 10:14:04, 0] smbd/oplock.c:request_oplock_break(1204) request_oplock_break: no response

File Lock Timeout
Hi, I've seen posts (but no answers) about clearing a file lock on a Samba share. Presumably this kind of thing happens when the program abnormally terminates and doesn't close its open files. I've got a file that smbstatus reports as: 1216 DENY_WRITE 0x20089 RDONLY NONE /shares/share1/Files/december.xls Fri Jan 12 12:51:30 2007 Trying to open this in Excel

3.0.20 usermap script execution
I have created a mapusers.bash script (listed below) for mapping Active Directory handles to unix logins. This script is currently working as documented. I would like some insight into how and when this script gets called. I assumed that upon establishing each samba connection, after the active directory handle gets authenticated with the domain controller it passes the domain\handle to this

The case of the disconnecting network shares
We recently completed our Samba 3 to Samba 4 transition without too many serious problems but one rather annoying issue has cropped up since the migration. Network shares on our file server become disconnected overnight, whether idle or not. This was never a problem with Samba 3 but since upgrading Samba on the server to version 4 and joining it to the Samba 4 AD domain this problem is

Samba clients disconnect periodically
I am using Samba 3.0.10 with Red hat (4.5) as samba fileserver. It is very basic setup with Ldap setup. All of our desktop (Windows and MAC) clients (>250) simultaneously started dropping their connections to our Samba fileserver. Since then, I have tested with RHEL5 and SuSE with Samba 3.0.23c, 24 and 25. None the latested fix this problem. So I downgraded to samba 3.0.10 and it works
