"getent group" shows AD groups; "getent passwd" only shows local users
I had winbind configured so that it could fetch users from AD.
Everything was working properly, but something happened in the past
couple of days (no change in the Samba config) I'm not able to diagnose.
"getent group" enumerates groups, "getent passwd" doesn't.
"wbinfo -g" returns groups, whereas I get this error when trying to get
users:
# wbinfo -u

failing to get AD users (getent passwd DMYDOM\a-sdettmer)
Hi,
after I setup one working Samba today, I tried to do exactly the same
in another domain.
I created a privileged debian12 container and installed samba.
I have a MS Win driven AD (3 DCs). First I had not all in upper case
in krb.conf. I learnt uppercase is needed and fixed it. To go sure I
left domain, killed the container and started again from scratch (hope
nothing is stored anywhere).

Hello,
I migrated a samba3 with openLDAP to Samba 4 (sernet package 4.13). I
can see all migrated users on all DCs and fileservers with "wbinfo -u"
and "getent passwd" and all informations for a single user with
"getent passwd <username>" and "wbinfo -i <username>".
Now, after migration, if I

AD Domain member - getent passwd truncated to only 18 users
Hi,
Due to some legacy php app I have to integrate an Ubuntu 14.04 server on
my AD structure. AD DC is a Ubuntu 18.04 with canonical packages running
Samba 4.7 (4.7.6+dfsg~ubuntu-0ubuntu2.5) and member server runs Samba
4.3 (4.3.11+dfsg-0ubuntu0.14.04.19).
After installing the 14.04 member server, installed samba packages and
dependencies according to wiki and no errors. I get all users on

Can't get "getent passwd" to display winbind users
Hi,
I am running Samba 3.0.1 on a Debian/Sid machine. I have installed
winbind to access the AD of the local network, which I want to use for
UNIX logons.
wbinfo -u shows all the users of the AD, but "getent passwd" only shows
the contents of the file /etc/passwd.
I have been following the instruction for winbind (Chapter 21) in the
Samba-HOWTO-Collection.
Any comments would be

getent passwd not returning users/groups
I'm trying to get my CentOS 5.6 machine setup as a Active Directory
Domain Member with Windows 2008 level domain and samba 3.5. I haven't
tried this before.
I can successfully join the domain and return users using 'wbinfo -u'
and groups with 'wbinfo -g' but when I try 'getent passwd' I only get
the local users. I'm not sure what element that indicates is

getent passwd not listing domain users, nsswitch.conf is configured
Using Samba 3.0.25c on OpenSolaris nv72.
wbinfo -u lists domain users as expected.
getent passwd only lists local users.
nsswitch.conf has the following lines:

group: files winbind
My smb.conf is below. Where should I start to troubleshoot?

AD integration: "getent passwd" can't see *new* users, but "wbinfo -u" can
I have two different systems (on different networks) showing this
behavior. Both are running Ubuntu Dapper/606.1 LTS with samba version
3.0.22 and windows 2003 sp1 servers (not R2). AD integration is done
via winbind, with nss using winbind. At some point in time (which is
unknown to me), the samba server stopped seeing new users, groups,
machines which are added to AD.

Speeding up 'getent passwd' with winbindd on AD
I am working on a Linux-AD integration using winbindd in security=ads
mode with idmap=ad.
Everything is basically working, but the performance of user (and group)
enumeration has been very poor and I am almost at the stage where I ask
my users if they can live without it, though I would prefer not to.
In my test environment, I have about 8500 users in AD, of which
currently only about 10 have

getent passwd does not list trusted users
I am running Samba 3.5.5 on Solaris 10. This is the latest Sun/Oracle
provided build. I have an ldap backend for everything (unix+samba
accounts, idmapping for domain trusts.) The Samba server is a PDC for a
domain we can call "SAMBA." Each samba account is tied to a unix
account.
I have a one-way domain trust setup with a Windows 2003 domain which we
