net getdomainsid returns two SIDs - how to remove one?
Hi,
How can I remove the "domain PHOENIX" SID from the PDC? It was a test
domain I had set up before this machine went live around 18 months ago.
I believe this is the issue that's causing me to have problems migrating
this PDC to a new machine.
This is the output from the current PDC:
phoenix:/ # net getlocalsid
SID for domain PHOENIX is: S-1-5-21-3597458131-155160113-1223051555

Duplicate group mappings - which ones to delete?
I'm using Samba 3.0.21b on Debian linux using a tdbsam database as a PDC
for domain ADADOM. I have a problem with duplicate group mappings and
need to delete some, however, I don't know which one is being used. Is
there a way I can find out which ones have no users assigned to them?
Here's the sorted output of "net groupmap list". The last three are the
issue. I only

Changed name of domain - accounts have old name
I'm using samba 3.0.11 on Suse 9.2. smb.conf is at the end of this
post.
I created a samba pdc with domain name, "gamidom". This I subsequently
changed to "phoenix" (the same as the server's netbios name). Tried to
add a win2k machine to the domain and got an error regarding the
domain/server name being the same so I changed the name of the domain in
smb.conf to

Moving samba PDC to new machine (same name?)
I'm using a tdbsam database with Samba 3.0.11 on a machine that's
getting a little long in the tooth. I'd like to move the whole deal to
a new machine without any reconfiguring on the clients - I'm happy with
a little downtime - out of office hours the system is hardly used
anyway. I'd like to upgrade to 3.0.21c at the same time.
I'm thinking:

"net getdomainsid" reporting "Could not fetch local SID" -- am I using this command appropriately?
Good evening,
Distro: ClearOS 6.3 (RHEL-derived with a distro-specific web
configuration tool for samba) I'm only about 90% sure it's version
6.3.
Samba version: 3.6.10-1.v6
Intended use: NT4-style PDC for Windows XP clients
Issue:
My distro's "add machine script" uses the output of "net getdomainsid"
to help populate the new machine account's sambaSID field

SID of member server in Samba domain (smbldap_search_domain_info: NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL)
I have a domain with Samba 3 acting as PDC, and using LDAP (passdb backend = ldapsam).
I now wanted to add a second Samba 3 machine as a simple file server. I get errors
with getdomainsid and getlocalsid, so there is obviously still something wrong with
my config.
The PDC runs Samba 3.5.6 on Debian Squeeze. Sid queries return:
# net getdomainsid
SID for local machine MY_PDC_HOST is:

Weird XP synchronisation issue. Using old cached IP?
First, a little background:
I successfully migrated the samba PDC funtionality from an old Suse
machine to a new debian-based one. The old machine was named PHOENIX
and had an ip address of 10.10.10.4. The new one has the same name but
is on 10.10.10.14.
Everything is working just fine with this new domain (authentication,
adding users, computers, printing etc), except for one laptop.

When is a machine SID created?
I have been having a problem with 'net getdomainsid' on a machine that I
set up to be a BDC.
# net getdomainsid
Could not fetch local SID
tdbdump shows that there is no machine SID in secrets.db, so I'm thinking
that I overlooked the step that creates a machine SID. What creates the machine
SID and when? Also, is it the hostname or the netbios name that samba uses as
the machine

Classic Upgrade changes domain SID
Dear samba experts,
I did a classic upgrade from a Samba 3.6.14 samba NT4 DC to a
Samba 4.18.2 AD-DC. It does not work and I just want to make sure
that I have the correct understanding of our domain SID.
On our old Samba server net getdomainsid shows:
SID for local machine SERV00 is: S-1-5-21-1415314133-2460755331-2761616138
SID for domain NAV is: S-1-5-21-1415314133-2460755331-2761616138

Maildir, procmail, and locks
I'm using procmail as the local delivery agent for Maildir style
mailboxes. I discovered that I was able to send mail to other users but
was unable to send mail to myself. Examples from verbose procmail log:

inconsistent winbind on upgraded member server
I upgraded a domain member server from 4.5.5 to 4.6.2. After some initial
tests, where everything seemed to be working fine, I upgraded the OS from
CentOS 7.3 to 7.4. Now I have intermittent problems with domain users
trying to log in to the member server over ssh.
After a bunch of troubleshooting I determined that winbind sometimes
returns the user home directory and shell incorrectly and

Profiles and samba servers
I seem to have my new server running fine. I do have a problem with my
Windows Profiles though. I logged in as a local admin to copy
user_oldserver_profile to user_newserver_profile, but I cannot do that
since it shows the profiles from the oldserver as unknown.
I am only going to copy a few of the admins profiles and the rest I am not
worrying about. I see a couple of ways of doing this. I

for this I've set up the new server as per the first attachment.

Easy migration from Dovecot 1.2.16 ppc maildir to 2.1.17 amd64 mdbox
Hi
After
http://retrospekt.dk/2011/08/migrating-maildir-to-dovecot-2-0-dbox/ I
used a two phases process.
The first, transfering over the network, is done by this shell function,
on the *new* server. The argument is the <user>
fetchOldServer () {
rsync -poazuHK --exclude="**/dovecot.index*" \
-e ssh root at oldServer:/var/mail/Maildirs/$1 /var/mail/oldServer/
}
I had
