subdirectories with different permissions
Several users keep asking for a similar setup, and I'm wondering if
there's a way to achieve it with a single samba share.
They'll ask for a single share drive the has multiple subdirectories
with each subdirectory having different permissions based on groups.
So say you have a share called COLOURS and inside that share are three
subdirectories, RED, GREEN and BLUE.

File Lock Issue
Hi All,
I've seen a few messages similar to my problem, looking back through the
mailing list but the issue I'm having is a little more unique.
We have a user, who uses both wireless and wired connection. He uses
truecrypt, that has the encrypted file sitting on a samba share. What I
think is happening is he will unplugged his wired connection and move to
a meeting room and connect

strange "couldn't find service" error message
Hi All.
This has got me stumped!!!
I created a share the other day like I do all the time.
There's about 10 users in the group. All of them can access the share
fine, except for one guy. He's a valid user and has many other share
drives on this system that are working fine. All 10 users are using a
Windows XP platform.
The log.smbd has an entry like this for his requests:

Some accounts getting locked after server upgrade
We just migrated to a new file server. The new server is running SuSE
Enterprise 10 which is has samba-3.0.22-13.16 from the old server which
was running SUSE 8.2 w/ samba-2.2.8a-234 with no problems. This setup
is not running domains just straight samba with the accounts managed
locally. Some of our users smbpasswd entries keep getting reset.

Can't access dirs with subgroups of a samba share
Hi all!
Here's the problem we have since patching Monday night. Tuesday morning
Samba wasn't running, but started fine, and everything seemed to be working.
Were currently running samba3.0.24-2.23 and I believe before the patch
we were running samba3.0.22-13.30.
We have some samba shares where we have subgroups that only a select
group of people of the parent group are allowed to

Samba/LDAP Domains and multiple File Servers
Hi All,
I have a domain setup soon to go into production. We have 3 buildings,
each containing a fileserver for that buildings users (home drives/share
drives). I've been using the smbldap-tools on the PDC, which is all
working fine. Is it possible to join another server to the domain, also
using the smbldap-tools, with a different config, that will setup a
users home drive, etc on

Migrated PDC to new server
I just migrated my SMB pdc to a new server (was running 3.0.21c, now
3.0.22). Some things seems to be ok. net rpc list; net rpc testjoin
seem to work. But if I attempt to join a windows system to the domain I
get "The following error occured while attempting to join to domain
"DOMAINNAME": The user name could not be found". The machine name is
getting loaded into ldap.

LDAP backend for a stand-alone server
I'm sure I'm missing something in the configuration or am misconfiguring
the ldif. Regular linux accounts authenticate fine looking at the ldap
but not samba accounts. When I try to map a drive, it just returns
"Incorrect password or unkown username". I have ldap running on a
seperate server from the samba server.
I get nothing in the messages logs on the samba server,

Samba PANIC - running two instances
HI All.
We've been having some problems the past couple days with one of our
Samba Servers. We currently have it running two instances. One
instance is using local auth (historical) the other instances is using
our newish domain for authentication. We're slowly migrating users
over to the domain so having both methods available was the solution we
came up with.
Yesterday we had

virsh console and other language keymaps
Hi,
I've got a small vm server running kvm + libvirt, and I made a simple shell script that allows users to ssh in and control their vms (power off, etc). However, one of my users uses the french canadian keyboard layout on her home computer, and upon being told "escape character is ^]" expected to need to press ctrl+right-alt_] (] being in the same location it is on a US keyboard).

WinNUT Client Logs
How do you setup the debug options in WinNUT?
Correct, it sets the POWERDOWNFLAG when it receives an FSD but only if it acts as a NUT MASTER (since the UPS is connected locally to the NUT MASTER and can issue a killpower). This is the default value and I did not care to change it because it won't be use on my Windows machine anyway as it is working as a NUT SLAVE.
Thank you.
