Solaris winbind with password aging (workaround inside)
A few days back, I asked whether it was possible to have winbind co-exist with password aging on a Solaris system. Seems like there is no easy way around this. After a few more days of frantic poking and truss-ing around, I found a crude but seemingly workable workaround. It seems the the library /usr/lib/passwdutil.so.1 is the one responsible for checking that the passwd entry in

Problem with winbind and nsswitch.conf on Solaris 8 server
Hello, I'm having some problems using winbind on Samba 3.0.1 with /etc/nsswitch.conf on a Solaris 8 server. The Solaris 8 release is 10/00. The basic problem that I have is that there are restrictions on what nsswitch.conf can contain if password ageing is used. My setup is that users connecting to shares on the Solaris samba server are authenticated against a accounts on a Windows Active

Winbind/nsswitch issue on Solaris 9 (Sparc)
Hi all I need to set up Samba on Solaris 9 (Sparc) as a Windows Domain Member. I took the precompiled 64-bit Package (samba-2.2.8a-1-sol8-suncc-64bit.pkg) from samba.org, which comes with pam-winbind libraries, and it installed fine. I ran a test before with Samba 2.2.8 on Solaris 8 (Intel), but there I compiled myself with ./configure --with-winbind --with-pam --with-quotas

authenticating using winbindd against NT4 domain fails
Since version 3.0.23b, I have been having trouble getting Windows & OSX users to access an NT domain member server running FreeBSD 5.4. It is now at 3.0.23c (installed this morning the 5th). root@aries:/usr/local/lib# net rpc user Password: Could not connect to server 127.0.0.1 Connection failed: NT_STATUS_NO_LOGON_SERVERS root@aries:/usr/local/lib# net rpc user Password: Could not connect

FW: authenticating using winbindd against NT4 domain fail s (URGENT)
Hi folks, Can anyone shed light on this issue? I haven't heard from you guys. Is there anything else I could do to expedite resolution of this issue? I've read the WHATSNEW.txt and reviewed the release notes. I am not sure if I've fully grasped what needs to be done. Can someone point me in the right direction? ~Doug -----Original Message----- From: Doug Sampson

nss_winbind does not recognize group membership
Hello, There is FreeBSD-6.1 box with gcc 3.4.4 compiler (the default). The box is a member of an ADS domain. Everything was working perfectly with samba-3.0.22. After upgrading it to samba-3.0.23_1 from FreeBSD ports collection, the following problem appeared. The system does not seem to recognize that a user is a member of some domain group, and does not grant him appropriate permissions. For

nsswitch segfaults with Samba 3.0.21 on Solaris 9
I've built Samba 3.0.21 with Kerb ADS, NSS, Winbind and PAM support on Solaris 9 using gcc 3.3.2. I'm able to compile and install and authentication works fine - I can query and authenticate with AD, but when I su, passwd or some other local auth Solaris command the command segfaults. This even happens if a valid user is in any of the databases previous in the search pattern to

winbbind not quiried by nsswitch on solaris 8
Afternoon to all, I am having the following problem for 3 days now and am starting to bang head against wall :) Here is the setup : Solaris 8 box running Samba 3.0.4 server member in an NT 4 style domain I have managed to get it to join the domain and if I create a corresponding account on the sunbox (without password) users are able to log into shares with appropriate passwords and other

Auth. Failing... Update - NSSwitch
Yes. Try checking the PAM setup. I have to assume when you say that you can't log in via something obvious like telnet, you mean that Windows users can't log in. If your Unix users can't telnet in, you have bigger problems. :) The PAM stack is what controls the logging in of Windows users to Unix services like telnet. There is a document which describes the installation of winbindd,

Auth. failing - Update - NSSwitch
Thank you Andrew, you pointed me in the right direction. Part of what I m doing to try to get Netatalk to authenticate through Winbind was the following: 4) to install Winbind files: cp nsswitch/libnss_winbind.so /lib # this is the major one - solaris nss is different to linux. ln -s libnss_winbind.so nss_winbind.so.1 cp nsswitch/pam_winbind.so /lib/security Once I deleted /lib/libnss_winbind.so

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I've been unable to find any up-to-date information on the problem with solaris and winbind nsswitch.conf. FreeBSD and Winbind
I'm hoping this is an easy question, but the way my day has gone I seriously doubt it is going to be. Today, I installed Samba 3.0.24 with winbind support on my FreeBSD 6.2 server. I am able to join my domain and get information concerning groups and passwords from the domain controller (Windows 2003) without any problem. Where I have run into a problem is using getent to get a copy of the

Unreproduceable bug in Samba 2.0.6
Hello Samba Developers, Recently I've caused an endless loop in Samba, which caused the log file to fill up all usable disk space. This is what I've done ( or better, what I think I've done, because the bug is not reproduceable ) : - Mounted my home directory via Windows Explorer under Windoze NT. - Logged into account under same name on same machine ( bash ) - created a soft link

hi, anyone of you pls guide me what entries to put in nsswitch.conf for pam to work with krberse, i'm trying to authenticate users from AD, I thinks (my findings) pam.d/dovecot looks into /etc/nsswitch.conf for which passwd databases to use while authenticating a users. my krb setup is working fine I tested with "kinit username" and it authenticat to AD server. FW: getent & winbindd on FreeBSD 5.4
I posted my original post to FreeBSD-questions@freebsd.org and since then have had a running dialog with another poster. It now seems I am having trouble with the NSSWITCH function. I am now reporting back to the Samba list in hopes someone can help me out at this point. Can anyone help me out here? ~Doug -----Original Message----- Sent: Friday, September 16, 2005 12:48 PM To: 'Dan

"ld.so.1: ls: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/lib/nss_ winbind.so.1: symbol socket: referenced symbol not found" - Samba Team?
Hey, I'm getting this error when ever I've written a file from my Win2k Pro machine to my samba share. Using Samba 2.2.3. Built on Solaris 8. Using winbindd. I created the sym links as suggested under /lib (really /usr/lib): nss_winbind.so.1 -> libnss_winbind.so nss_winbind.so.2 -> libnss_winbind.so Are there some other sim links I need somewhere or is this error something

Samba 3.0.28a under Solaris 8 + libnss_winbind.so problem?
Hi i compiled Samba 3.0.28a under Solaris 8 (sparc). Everything seems to be fine except the libnss_winbind.so. i copied it to /usr/lib and linked it to: libnss_winbind.so.1 libnss_winbind.so.2 nss_winbind.so.1 nss_winbind.so.1 now when i use: id user nothing happens. group user is the same wbinfo -t / -g / -u all work fine. So it must be something with the nss I guess?

I've recompiled samba 2.2.3a and still any time I do a ls -l in a directory where there are files from a PC I get the error : ld.so.1: ls: fatal: relocation error: file /usr/lib/nss_winbind.so.1: symbol socket: referenced symbol not found If I shut off winbind or take winbind out for my /etc/nsswitch.conf file, I can get a directory listing and it lists the users ID that winbind assigned to
