Confused about groups and access
Hello,
My nt admin made a group for my samba server called
Share_Dfsroot_pvcs-cdw_C and added me as a member. I made a nested
group on my side with
net rpc group add ntcdw -L -Uxxxxx
I then added the Share_Dfsroot... with
net rpc group addmem ntcdw "DOMAIN+Share_Dfsroot..." -Uxxxxx
net rpc group members ntcdw -Uxxxx shows:
DOMAIN\Share_Dfsroot... so all looks good.

3 simple questions
Hi. I am running 3.0.20.
1. I would like to have an include statement pointing to user
configurations. For a user, say 'mike', the following works:
include = /home/mike/smb.conf
But this does not:
include = /home/%u/smb.conf
I am using a very simple config with 'security = user'. What am I doing
wrong?
I cannot get any log feedback from this ('testparm' says

Windows UIDs
hi all.
how does samba create its uids and gids from the windows domain? and what can i do to prevent it 'dropping' these mappings?
i've set up windows 2003 sfu to allow samba to map to the uid stored in active directory (by using sfu nis), is this the safest way to ensure folder permissions remain constant or am i being unnecessarily scared? :-)
thanks for any tips

Kerberos auth w/o a domain
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

I would like to be able to use kerberos for samba authentication from
linux and windows, without having to create a domain/ad. From what I've
read and seen, native kerberos authentication only works for windows
clients inside a active directory context, while pam authentication only
works with unencrypted passwords which aren't supported by

edited tdb... restart samba?
I had to remove reference to some printer drivers
via tdbtool on ntdrivers.tdb.
1. Do I need to restart smbd and nmbd to make these
changes take effect?
2. If I restart smbd and nmbd will connected users get
disconnected?

Effect of disabling LM/NTLMv1 auth on an AD?
Folks,
Our campus AD team has decided that they ...
>Need to disable LM/NTLMv1 authentication support to provide greater
>security and be consistent with the CITES authentication roadmap.
Noble thoughts, but there hasn't been much thought of the
ramifications for other, interoperable systems like Samba.
I can see that modern Samba versions support NTLMv1 and NTLMv2
methods.

Deleting undeletable files gives no error
I have an odd problem that involves clients deleting files they should
not be able to delete, and claiming success, but then the files "come
back" again.
Here's the setup: I have a filesystem that contains a file
"foobar.txt" owned by user "test", group "test". Permissions on this
file are 644, permissions on the enclosing directory are 777.

Can gencache.tdb be deletely at will?
List,
I have a client PC that is able to connect to my network via a VPN
tunnel. When the client PC comes back to the mother ship, it acquires
an ordinary network address via DHCP. In this situation, the PC is
currently having problems viewing Samba printers... the printer folder
takes several minutes to open all the printers, and requesting a print
from an application takes a couple of minutes

Join AD domain using security = domain ?
Hi guys,
Is it possible to join an AD domain using NT style authentication ?
i.e. security = domain in smb.conf and use 'net join rpc -W [MYADDOMAIN]

Winbindd_privileged permissions pb on RHEL 4 AS
Hi,

I use the same smb.conf file (and the same configuration procedure) on a

RHEL 4 server, Windows clients are unable to browse the server and I've

Problems joining a RHEL4.0 version of samba to an active directory
Chaps,
I'm trying to join a RHEL 4.0 Linux server to an active directory
domain. The server in question runs a RADIUS server and I need it to be
able to authenticate users via AD.
Basically when we try running
net ads join member -I 150<an ip address> -U <admin user> -d 2
we get

help, we are running out of idmap uids
Dear Samba experts,
Initially we set up winbind to the following:
idmap uid = 10000-20000
thinking that 10000 uids were sufficient
for the number of users we would get.
We also have defined our UNIX users
from 20001 onwards.
However, now I can see that our latest
windows(idmap uid) users has uid 19123
and this troubles me.
Since I cannot just "extend" the

Sieve Max Redirect
Hello,
I have configured iRedMail ( 0.9.1) on Ubuntu (14.04 LTS). In my
dovecot.conf file, I have set sieve_max_redirects as 500. In dovecot
(2.2.9) configuration file, I see sieve_max_redirect as 100 but when I
add email addresses more than 32, I see that redirect fails. Can you
please help me to see this issue and fix it through? If you need
anything from my side, please let me know.

Does "Admin Users =" accept groups?
man smb.conf does not specifically say admin users supports @groupname syntax. Google turns up lots of examples of it being used, but everyone hanging their smb.conf's up to air does not mean they are
100% accurate either.
Here, Samba 3.0.4 in PDC mode, I can not get it to accept the name of a group in /etc/group, user ID's only.

Samba PDC with groups in LDAP
Hi All,
I'm wondering if anyone can shed some light on a problem I'm
having.
I have a samba PDC with an LDAP backend, keeping the smb.conf file constant,
When I have /etc/nsswitch.conf configured with
groups: files ldap
Then
/usr/local/samba/bin/net rpc user info dbb
only returns my primary group.
If I have /etc/nsswitch.conf configured with
groups: files nis
Then all
