Managing a Samba4 AD DC using a Win7 workstation
Hello,
I just installed Samba4 using the following doc :
http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO
Everything works Ok. All tests are Ok.
Now, I would like to manage it from a remote Windows7 Virtualbox
workstation.
For that, I followed the following doc :
http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_management_from_windows
I installed the RSAT component but when trying to connect the

Conditionnal shutdown
Hello,
Being new to this list and to Nut, maybe my question has been asked
before but I didn't find a clear answer.
My question is : is it possible to make nut aware of the percentage (or
duration) of time before the UPS exhausts its power ? Thus making Nut
conditionning the shutdown of the servers depending on the remaining
load.
I saw this thread on the mailing list :

Samba4, multiple domains and a forest
Hello,
I have tested Samba4 as an AD domain controller for a small group of
computers and it works really great.
My question is about multi-domains and forest.
We plan to eventually use Samba4 for a large amount of entities (60+).
These entitites should share resources between each other.
As we have a central site, we were guessing to use Samba4 as to create
a forest and create as much domains

Questions about using Winbind to auth linux users
Hi there,
I have some questions about authenticating linux users against Active
Directory 2003 using winbind.
My server is a member of an AD 2003 domain. It is running Samba Version
3.0.23c-2.el5.2.0.2 on a RHEL5.
First of all, authentication is working. But I have some smaller
issues :
* wbinfo -u is very, very slow when dumping AD users. About 30 seconds.
Whereas wbinfo -g is instantaneous.

Samba, IPv6, turning off NetBT and Network discovery
Hi,
I hope this hasn't already been discussed to death, but I didn't find the answer through Google.
In short, my question is: how can I advertise a Samba server through UPnP/Network Discovery? I'm currently using Samba 3.2.6, but should be able to upgrade if needed.
I am trying to build an IPv6-only network, for now just for testing purposes. The problem I am having is that

How do I force a browser election?
I can force a browser election with the Win98 command:
net view /workgroup:workgroupname
However, that does not work on NT (and I haven't tried it on W95). What I'd
really like is a command from the Linux command line to force the election.
I've looked everywhere and can't find it. For my purposes having preferred
master=yes and restarting Samba is not an option.
Does anyone

How small can a compiled smbd/nmd be?
Hi.
We have some interest in using samba as a file server on a small device,
but we have some problems with low amount of space on our target machine,
the question is how low can we go?
So far we have just made a quick samba packages that requires 22mb of
space, however since we are not experts on samba, it could be us that are
stupid :)
What we want to have is a:
Samba server that is

rpm question
Hi everyone,
I am writing a small tool that will compare a file on my machine with
the the same file on an rpm repository and then give me a diff.
E.g.
# rpm-file-diff /etc/samba/smb.conf
will show a diff output so that I can see at a glance what changes I
have made to my local smb.conf file. I already know about rpmdiff but
that compares whole packages and not files.
Anyway while fiddling

Starting from scratch... and Active Directory
Hello,
Due to a couple of circumstances, I am rebuilding my file server. In
the process
I want to see if I can iron out the last few issues I have had with
getting active directory
authentication to work. Ideally I would appreciate it if anyone can
provide a link to a
website that gives decently detailed instructions for setting up samba
with user authentication
via Active Directory

Network Path could not be found on HP with XP
We have one brand new HP EPC-43 which can see all the Windows boxes, but
not the Samba shares on the Unix server. We have many other Windows
machines of all vintages including 95, 98, 98se, NT, 2000, ME and XP which
can see each other and the Samba server. The HP runs XP, but we have other
XP boxes which have no difficulty with Samba.
We have a simple network with no domain controller, just

upgraded from Samba 2.2.8a to Samba 3.0.0 now mount smbf does not work? update
I have upgraded from a almost perfectly working Samba 2.2.8a to Samba 3.0.0, I wished to
join my NAS servers to the
domain and it seemed something to do with DNS authentication was stopping them from joining,
so I upgraded to Samba 3
(not beta)
I have searched the web for reasons for this stange behavior but could find no explaination
or fix, there are however

Samba performance on FreeBSD
Dear Samba team & other readers,
I'm a satisfied user using Samba as a file server for Windows based
networks and I'm primarily using FreeBSD for this purpose.
When I started to use Samba about half a year ago, I was upset about
the lousy performance but tried my best to search for that problem
at myself. The machine at this time as a Pentium/200 PC with some
SCSI harddisks and 64

How to disable client NetBT via DHCP options?
I've just about given up on trying to get WinXP SP2, Cisco VPN Client
4.6.x, Samba 3.0.x PDC and NetBT working properly - without long login
and offline file sync delays. The VPN client is most of the problem
when SP2 is installed, but all is fine with SP1.
Being we have nothing but WinXP clients on the network, I'd like to
explore disabling NetBT altogether, since the slowness

Samba, Clearcase, and multiple credentials
This falls under the 'getting clearcase to work with samba'
category.
Does anybody know if the clearcase albd server actually uses
samba to access files (or anything else) on the unix side?
I am having 'discussions' with rational (the clearcase people).
The nt user running clearcase to access some unix-side views
connects to the unix side using a set of credentials that have

NETBIOS (NetBT) Issues
Using Ubuntu 6.06.1, Samba 3.0.22, VMWare.
Cannot access shares using netbios name, but ip address works.
>From a workstation command prompt (member of same domain as samba), used net view netbiosname and got system error 5, used net view ipaddress and got list of shares.
Ran ethereal and attempted a session with the server using netbios name. NBSS and SMB packets are being exchanged
