net groupmap error
Hi all,
I am currently following the example in chapter 2 of the Samba-3 by example book. Everything worked fine unil I start mapping Windows Domain Groups to UNIX groups.
When I issue the command 'net groupmap modify ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=root' I get the following error:
groupdb/mapping.c:init_group_mapping(134)

Guarddog, Samba, Win98
Using Samba on Kubuntu Breezy, and Win98 on a virtual PC
(VMPlayer). Everything works fine, except:
When the firewall (iptables via GuardDog) is activated, I don't
get any access from Win98 to my Linux shares - neither by
ping nor by "connecting network-drive" - even if I allow everything
that can be allowed within GuardDog (although this should have
the same effects like

SMB service not starting automatically
The smb service is not starting automatically. I can type service smb start
at the prompt and it loads, and I can then connect, but its not loading
automatically as it used to. Can someone point me in the right direction as
what file I need to change to make it load at startup. Thanks!

Slow network and 100% CPU
Hi,
I have a samba server which functioned correctly. Only, since 2 weeks,
the users have complained about slowness networks and the server is to
100% CPU on the initial process smbd.
My version is 3.0.7 and I have a Windows 2000 WINS server for netbios
resolution.
The samba server use nscd and ldap for password module.
I upgraded to samba 3.0.10 for a test, but the problem is not resolved.

smbldap-tools and joining workstation to domain
Hi,
I've reported this before but I guess I'll have to do it again, since
it's not fixed yet or I'm understanding something wrong here.
The problem is that smbldap-useradd -w 'machinename' will add only
posixAccount entrys into ldap but it should add both posixAccount and
sambaSAMAccount entrys.
So if one doesn't add correct machine account entrys manually to ldap

task scheduler in Samba ?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Anyone interested in having the Windows remote task
scheduler implemented in Samba 3 at some point ? I think
it would be pretty easy work based on the registry stuff
that's been done lately. If you think this would be a
useful feature for scheduling services on a Samba host,
let me know.
Disclaimer: I've never used this feature on Windows

Disabling [printers] share
Hi All,
I've been trying to tackle this for some time and so far did not find a way to do this. The problem is simple - as I don't enable printing through Samba I'd like to disable it in such fashion that user would not even see the empty Printers share when he lists the available shares. How can I achieve that?

Backup & Restore Samba Configuration
The motherboard in our Samba server fried. I have re-installed
our operating system (SUSE 10) and was wondering what is the
best way to restore our Samba server? Can it be as simple as
copying the smb.config and smbpasswd files back into the
/etc/samba directory? That's what I am hoping. If I just copy
the smb.config and the smbpasswd files back to the samba
directory will the machine trusts,

Synchronize samba across servers
I've got a particularly inelegant setup to manage whereby we have one
server attached to a fibre SATA enclosure, and another one on standby
that has to be manually plugged in should the first go down.
I'm trying to work out what the best way to synchronize the samba
setup is, presumably mainly user accounts, across the two is so I
don't have to do everything twice.

Hi all!
I have a problem setting ACLs on a remote file on a Windows XP Pro

And I get this response from debug level 3.

UID of the windows Domain Administrator user?
I have installed lots of samba 3 servers as PDCs for little networks
serving 10 users or so. I have always set up the user "root" as the domain
administrator, by setting its group SID to <domainSID>-512 with pdbedit.
My "root" user has usually a user SID of <domainSID>-1000 since it is the
first user I add to Samba. I have never set up a username map

According to "man smb.conf", smbldap-passwd is invoked as root so the
passwd chat should be fine.

ACL Question [Repost]
OK so I've got samba-3.0.11 compiled with ACL support. I've running
2.4.25 with the ACL/ATTR patch applied. I can read and set ACLS's using
the getfacl/setfacl programs. ldd /usr/sbin/smbd shows it's linked to
libattr.so.1 and libacl.so.1. I can read ACL with the smbcacls program,
but when I try to set them I get:

smbldap-tools problem
Hi!
I'm installing Debian Sarge with Samba 3.0.14a-3, OpenLDAP 2.2.23-8,
smbldap-tools 0.8.7-4 ( I tried with 0.9.x version also)
It isn't the first time I install a system like this but this time I
encountered a problem never seen: during user insert I have an error because
of smbldap-tools do not find indicated group (but group exists!).
So:
