SID problems?
I?ve upgraded from Samba 2 to version 3, and am having some problems. I think they?re related to SIDs, which I?ve not really been aware of before!
Currently I only have the Samba server which is acting as PDC for Win XP Pro machines. My smb.conf looks like:
-------------------------------------------
[global]
netbios name = scofp1
workgroup = SCODOMAIN
server string = Samba

Parallel printer error
Hello folks:
The introduction:
Great product this Samba!
The problem:
I am trying to migrate an HP LaserJet 4 printer in our office off a VMS system
and hang it directly off the back of a UNIX machine. I have created the new
entry in the printcap (see below) file on that machine and can print from UNIX -
no problem. I created the share in Samba with what I think works pretty well
(see below).

How to keep local profiles when joining domain?
Hi
I hope someone can help
We currently have Windows
XP Professional PCs that logon to an old Novell Netware
3.12 server. We?re just using the standard Windows
Netware client, and each user has a Windows XP User
account and password that matches their Novell one.
When they logon to Windows, they are automatically
authenticated to Novell.
However, we are now in the final stages of

Cannot delete shared Printer from XP Home
I have a printer, using CUPS, run from linux (redhat 9) using Samba 3.0.22 to share
it between some windows PCs. I wanted to remove the printer from one of the XP
Home PCs, but the deletion process is apparently getting stuck. The printer status
remains "deleting", but the printer never gets deleted. By chance is there some
communication between XP and Samba that is hanging?

Samba 2.2.8 and NFS together?
Hi All,
I have a rather unique (at least from reading the archives)
situation that has me stumped, and I'm hoping the gurus can help.
Here's my problem, I have a Solaris 2.8 server running Samba 2.2.8
which sits on two networks (no routing between networks). On one
side of the Samba server are 100 PCs running a mix of Win95 and Win98
which have touch screens and no keyboards, that are

Can't locate point and print (printer) driver files
We have recently implemented printing via SAMBA for our site. In most
cases clients are able to double click on printers from a browse window
and have the driver files automatically install. However in alot of
other cases, the client computer 'decides' that it can't locate the
files. In these instances we are advising users to manually type in
\\SMBSERVER\PRINTER$\PRINTERNAME which

can not connect to the shared printer
Hi there,
I'm learning Samba and I really appreciate somebody out there can help
me out. I'm using RedHat advanced server and a windows 2000. I created a
workgroup on samba and only samba machine and win2k machine are members.
I shared the printer attached to the Linux. From win2k PC, I can see the
workgroup, but I can not find the samba host from the workgroup, nor
does the printer.

Printer drivers on a samba 2.2.8a server: how?
I'd like to set up my samba 2.2.8a server to serve printer drivers to
clients when needed. I have set up the print$ share, in which I still
have no drivers. Tried adding drivers from a win2000 workstation by
using "server properties" command, I can't add anything since all
buttons are greyed out. The user I am using is in the printer admin
group in smb.conf. I

Drive mapping failing
Hi,
I have a 2.2.8 Samba server setup here that is mapping Unix
home directories to a drive at login for Windows XP and
Win2K Pro desktops. I'm using server level security, the
password server being an Active Directory server.
This works consistantly well.
I've introduced a Win2K Server with terminal services and
Samba will fail to authenticate after only a very few logins

Delay with printer properties
Greetings Samba Fans!
I'm experiencing a strange problem which started after installation of
Service Pack 2 for Windows XP:
When a user tries to print there is a long delay (sometimes around 2
minutes) before the printer properties page is opened. This only affects
Windows XP with Service Pack 2 installed.
I did a 'tcpdump' on the printserver and observed something quite strange:

Printer browsing- failing under Solaris 2.5.1
I am at a loss. I have two SUNs and 10 PCs (W95) on our network. One SUN
box runs Solaris 1.1.1, it has four serial printers (old printers never die
they just...) running from a serial extension card. Users validate when the
come to their PC so they can access the printers and the disks on the SUNs.
The second SUN runs 2.5.1 and I wanted to move the printer activity there
with time. I created two
