domain user notifications?
Is there a method of notifying users of a domain about a server or print queue reboot/shutdown/maintenance/problem? Our old Netware servers used to do this, and everyone seems to rely on the fact that they will be told they have X minutes remaining on a power failure, ect. Ideas on this anyone?

Can join domain; can't logon
I had a problem similar to my current one a week or so ago, and I was encouraged to upgrade from Samba 2.2.9 to 3.0.7, which I did. Now that I've completed that nightmare, the problem I initially set out to fix is still there, just different. Namely: I am trying to set up Samba 3.0.7 on a SuSE 9.1 box as an LDAP PDC whose only job will be authentication. Our LDAP server is on a separate

smbpasswd complains about LDAP: "Object class violation"
I'm trying to get Samba on a Mac OS X box running as a PDC with an LDAP backend. I've read through all of the major walkthroughs I can find, and we've actually already got it running very nicely as a file server; people are currently authenticating against a different PDC and then mapping drives from the Samba box in question. However, I'd like it to be the PDC eventually, but

kernlab and gram matrix
Hi, this is a question about the R package kernlab. I use kernlab as a library in a C++ program. The host application defines a graph kernel (defined by me), generates a gram matrix and trains kernlab directly on this gram matrix, like this: regm<-ksvm(K,y,kernel="matrix"), where K is the n x n gram kernelMatrix of my kernel, and y is the R-vector of quantitative target values.

Fatal error: you must specify '--save', '--no-save' or '--vanilla'
Hi, I get the above error when starting my program with rake (ruby make) instead of manual startup (which works as expected). It happens on R initialization with "REmbeddedPostgres --gui=none --silent" as arguments (this is part of my way of embedding R in a C application using libR.so). Any help would be appreciated! domain controller cannot be contacted
Hi everyone, I have struggled with this problem for awhile now. randomly and intermittently a workstation or bunch of workstations will not be able to log in. This is pretty much reproduceable at will, and here is what you need to do to get this little issue to show up: 1. Log out and try to log in as a different user 2. Attempt to login immediately after the machine is booted. To ensure you

Mainland "Equatorial Guinea" missing?
In the World map, mainland "Equatorial Guinea" seems to be missing although two offshore parts, "Equatorial Guinea:Annobon" and "Equatorial Guinea:Fernando Po", are present. I'd like to be able to fill the mainland piece. How can I correct this? Thanks. -- View this message in context: http://n4.nabble.com/Mainland-Equatorial-Guinea-missing-tp1573691p1573691.html

Long directory name creation timeout ?
Hello, I have a 120 PC netwaork at work and I'm using samba 1.9.17p4 on a linux 2.0.32. Previously, I was using Netware 4.10 and I plan to replace it step by step by Linux/Samba (I have Unix and W95 clients). All samba shares either on a local or on a remote machine are working perfectly fine. But I also have some share on some directories exported by the netware server (in NFS mode,of

Win98 problem, but not 2000/XP
I'm using an old version of Samba 1.9.18p8 (it's the only one that'll compile on the system I'm using it on) and am having trouble with Win98 clients, 2000/XP clients work OK. Windows 98 can see the server and see the shares but can only open files as read only and cannot browse and sub folders within the share. If anyone can shed any light on this I'd be grateful. Cheers

Converting / to ext3.
My guinea pig laptop has only a / partition, and a small /boot partition. I installed the ext3 kernel succesfully (I think). Now, how do I get / converted to ext3? I'm thinking: * Use mkbootdisk on a floppy, to create a boot disk with the ext3 kernel. * Boot off the floppy. * Follow the instructions to convert / to ext3. * Change the filesystem type in /etc/fstab to ext3. * Reboot.

Ldap Samba and problems compiling
Hi, I got 2 problems :- 1. I was compiling samba-2.2.7-4.src.rpm on Redhat 8.0 system and with the option --with-pam_smbpass. It always fail when I am doing a rpmbuild -ba samba.specs. The error is similar to the person who posted on http://lists.samba.org/pipermail/samba-technical/2002-September/039415.html but no one answered him. I was also compiling with the following extra options:-

Virtualisation of Netware?
Hi, I am hoping someone can kick me up the learning curve (!) on Virtualization: We have an old piece of data logging software that was written in Turbo Pascal 6 using a file I/O module tuned to Netware and so it expects its data files to be on a Netware server and will not access them locally or via an MS/Samba share - essentially, it uses direct NCP calls for parts of its data access. Performance Samba 2.0.6 / FreeBSD 3.4 vs NT and NetWare
I'm getting samba setup, and it seems to be working. I have PDC/BackupPDC issues to resolve, and want to change things so the NT PDC authenticates users instead of setting them up using smbpasswd. Right now, I can access the samba box from Win98 and WinNT workstation with "manually setup" smbpasswd's. I have been testing performance and am a little disappointed, I hoped samba

Win98 SE, Samba 2.0.5, abysmal write performance
I am running Win 98 SE and have a Samba server v2.0.5 on a FreeBSD 3.3 system. Both machines sit on the same 100baseTX subnet. I am seeing expected read performance, but writes from Win98 to the Samba share are terrible; upwards of 30 seconds to copy a 900kb file (yes, that's kb). This happens in both Explorer, the DOS "shell", and in the application that actually created the file

rsync 2.5.5 port to Novell NetWare

Netware copy fails
Affected: Various 2.x.x releases of samba on Solaris 2.6/8 and Netware 5.1 SP5. Problem: Unable to copy files from a mapped Netware drive to a mapped samba share on a PC desktop (W2K). Windows XP date/timestamp issues
Hello all! Long time listener, first time caller. I have an issue I hope someone has seen before. I have a NetWare6 server running RSYNC server, and a LINUX box running RSYNC client from CRON to get the files from the NetWare server. The command is " rsync -qrtu --delete --exclude (some excludes here) " and all works well. Except... Whenever a Windows XP system opens a file on the NW
