domain member server authentication problem
Hi I'm having problems implementing a domain member server using winbind. I've setup a test share on the server (BERTHOG) and test user (alex) on the PDC (RODNEY). Winbind seems to be running fine: berthog:/srv$ wbinfo -n alex S-1-5-21-2502943273-132007109-1129902423-3006 User (1) But when I try to connect to the share: berthog:/srv$ smbclient //BERTHOG/shared -U alex Password:

net ads join / kinit /.conf syntax
Hi. HELP! I read: :-) http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/domain-member.html#domain-member-server (Which notes, "This is a rough guide to setting up Samba-3 with Kerberos authentication against a Windows 200x KDC. A familiarity with Kerberos is assumed." Is there "A guide to familiarity with Kerberos as a primer for Samba configuration" somewhere?) :-) This thread

can't seem to remove winbind cache
Hi I have an issue with winbind where new information isn't being transferred from my PDC. One of my users has changes their second name, and I have added another user. When I run getent passwd safa on the domain controller I get his new name, when I run it on the domain server it returns the old information. My new user doesn't show up with getent passwd or id. I have tried

SAMBA: winbind ID's disappearing
http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2005-October/113181.html This sounds exactly like what I'm experiencing... for the second time. I'm starting to think it happens whenever the AD folks create a new domain in the forest. (we just added our asia pacific region a couple days ago) Did you ever figure out what's happening? How did you resolve the issue? I remember last time I had

Coloring Continents/Regions of World Map
Dear All, This may be a silly question, but I have tried searching through a few of the existing threads already, and haven't found any information on this. I am trying to color code entire continents/regions (Asia, North America, Africa, etc.) based on the number of relevant companies. The data would look like: World Location Companies North America 4848 Western Europe 1972 East Asia

Problem with security and Samba 2.0.7
Hi I have loaded Redhat 7.1 onto my machine at home (i386) and all is well except when I try to fire up samba. I have a second windows machine which mounts a data drive on the linux server. I am utilising my old config file which, with Mandrake 7.0 was working fine (and with 2.0.6 samba I think). The daemons appear to come up ok. When I run testparm all is OK except an error that (and I dont

samba appliance issues
Hi All! I have been a happy and contented user of samba for several years now, when I got asked several questions I didn't know the answer to. The questions were: 1) Is there a way to create a network appliance type unix box, where usernames and groupnames are pulled from an existing NT4 or W2K domain? (without maintaining a local /etc/passwd file) What is the best way to do this?

CLASSIFY target documentation
Where can I find information on the CLASSIFY target? I saw it in some examples people posted on this list, but I cannot find it in the LARTC Howto or with Google. I need to classify packets into PRIO queues based on iptables rules. I am currently setting MARKs during classification. Unfortunately, if I understand correctly u32 cannot see marks because they''re not in the packet, so my

dovecot HA setup across large geographic distances
Hi, I have a working postfix/dovecot config on Debian located in Europe[EU]. I would like to provide either an HA/load balanced setup with a second site in Australia[AU] because of users located between EU/Asia/AU. The site to site traffic would be tunneled through either SSH or a VPN * Has this been done with Doevcot over such great distances? * How can the delay between mailstore

Embedded Question
A friend asked me to setup an embedded appliance with an RO root for minimal maintenance to primarily stream shoutcast out to an amp. The only thing I knew that might do this is iMedia Linux, but the project is practically dead with little to no activity. Is it possible to do something like this with CentOS? Doesn't seem to be much info on the /etc/sysconfig/readonly-root file. Anyone know

[patch] output of rsync -n truncated
I noticed that the output of "rsync -n" is sometimes truncated. Even when you repeat the same command, the output may be different. I'm using rsync-2.5.5 on a Debian woody system with ext3 file systems. One scenario to reproduce this behavior is someting like this: # rsync -aR /usr/share/zoneinfo /tmp # rsync -n -avRH localhost:/usr/share/zoneinfo /tmp receiving file list ... done
