trouble with winbind
Hi,
I'm running samba, V3.0.20b-3.4-SUSE, on suse el9. I've successfully
bound one machine to active directory, I can login to the local box
using domain credentials. However, I can't get a second machine to
the domain, using the exact same procedures. The machine claims to be
bound,
wbinfo -t returns "checking the trust secret via RPC calls succeeded"
But, when I

Confused about what I am seeing with domain names - --getdcname fails for ad server
Should I expect to see when I run wbinfo --getdcname=domain it return a
domain controller for an ad server? It does return a server name for
domain_network, the non-ad server.

FW: samba as a domain member
whoops, forgot to copy the list on it. sorry.
Well, an update. I can log in to the console using any domain profiles, but, I can not access the exposed home directory through NetBeui (My Network Places/Network Neighborhood).
Also, how should I configure /etc/pam.d/sshd to allow domain users to authenticate and logon through an ssh client (PuTTY?, OpenSSH?)

3.0.20a winbind getent problem...
Hi all,
I have successfully setup squid on 1 host to authenticate users against win2k AD using Samba+Winbind.
On a second host I now wish to do the same and have installed from source using the same options, but cannot get any getent calls to work with winbind, even though wbinfo -t shows the trust being OK, wbinfo -g shows domain groups and wbinfo -i shows domain users.
This is level 10 debug

Sid S-0-0 is not in a valid format
Hi all,
I'm trying to get winbind going on a different PC to the one I've
already got working, but I can't figure out why winbind won't work on
this other PC. It mostly works (wbinfo works, net ads testjoin reports
OK) but "getent passwd" doesn't return anything. The winbind log
reports this:

How to control who can log into the samba box
Hello,
I have samba set up using winbind so that I can ssh into the box with
my DOMAIN\mylogin. That's great...kind of. How do I control which
users can login to the box? As it stands now, all users in DOMAIN can
log in, which is not desireable. Do I need to map domain groups to unix
groups? Do I need to map domain users to the box some how? Even if I do
that, how do I then set it up

3.0.27a, ubuntu server7.10 auth issues
I have upgraded to version 3.0.27a on ubuntu 7.10 server and now the
getent command wont display the active directory users, but wbinfo will.
It worked fine with 3.0.26a and I have not changed my configuration.
I do however have this in my winbind log:

samba as a domain member
Hello,
I am new to this list but I have been learning to use linux/bsd and samba for the past year. so far I have been able to learn enough on my own to be able to successfully set up a functional samba server on FreeBSD and Gentoo Linux boxes. I am trying to learn how to integrate them into an Active Directory windows 2003 server domain. So far I have verified that Kerberos and ldap and winbind

3.0.23b domain member not accessible
I portupgraded my samba domain server and domain member to 3.0.23b from
3.0.23 and found that the domain member was not accessible from
workstations. The error message:
\\HOSTNAME is not accessible.
There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request.
In the log.winbindd of the domain member, I found:

Samba Configuration
Hi all, for the life of me I cannot figure out this problem. I'm trying to
get Samba working with my AD environment. No matter what I try I cannot seem
to get it working. Mind you, I can authenticate to the server if I type
wbinfo -a username. I was also successful in joining it to AD. My problem is
when I try to access a share, say Home, I get a message asking for a

Samba with ADS
Environment: Sun Solaris 9 sparc
Software: Samba-3.3.3, KRB5-1.6.3, OpenLDAP-2.4.11
Problem:
Am trying to create shares with Samba so that users can map to folders on this server using Active Directory. I am successful in creating a Kerberos ticket; I can join the domain; and wbinfo -u and -g give me users in the AD. However, getent passwd only gives me a list of users on the server and not in the

bwinfo -u works getent passwd doesn't
Hi,
I have Samba 3.0.21b running on Solaris 10 with ADS authentication.
I get the following in log.winbindd when I do "getent passwd" but wbinfo -u
lists all the users.
Does anyone know why and how to fix it?
Thanks,
Vahid.

"Segmentation Fault" when attempting to join AD
I've just installed Samba 3.0.21c on SLES9 box. I've configured kerberos and my smb.conf file to a tee. When I try to join my active directory domain by typing the following:
"net ads join -U administrator"
after I type the password, I get this error:
"Segmentation fault"
I can successfully get a ticket from AD when invoking:
"kinit user"

I see plenty of the following lines in my logs and I'm wondering if
someone can help me troubleshooting this:

ADS mode - differences between W2K and 2003?
I'm having a bizarre problem doing authentication via winbind against a
Windows 2003 server.
Aside from changing the hostname information, etc. as appropriate for
krb5.conf and smb.conf, the configuration I'm using is one that I copied from
another server that is successfully authenticating against ads.
The two systems I'm having trouble with are running Suse Linux Enterprise
