XP not creating thumbs.db on samba shares?
I run a samba server as a simple file server for digital photos.
As many of you know, windows creates 'thumbs.db' files as a cache of
thumbnail views of these photos...
However, XP (SP2 in my case) seems to fail to fail to create them on my
server... This is BAD in my case, because the cache can significantly
improve the user experience of working on the folders...
Here's what

sqlFetch on MySQL-DB
Dear all,
I successfully set up a local MySQL-database. Connecting via RODBC is
not problem, the same in fetching 3 of 4 tables. But trying to
connect to table 4 fails.
> author<-sqlFetch(test,"author")
Error in fromchar(unclass(x)) : character string is not in a standard
unambiguous format
In principle I understand that error message, but I don't know any
solution.

Image Gallery with custom thumbs...?
Hello all,
I''m fairly new to RoR, have done many different tutorials, but am now
trying to build something on my own. I would like to create a
portfolio gallery. I plan on using customized thumbs, not scaled, but
custom cropped and resized in Photoshop. The reason for this is these
will not be photos but portfolio pieces and I would like the thumbs to
focus on a vital part of the piece.

thumbs up or down on ext3 with md?
I've read through the archives and it looks like people are using ext3
with software RAID with at least some success. I just want to confirm
that it works properly. If I convert my md RAID 0 to ext3, should I
expect
A) A fast journalled filesystem, or
B) Wailing and gnashing of teeth
My RAID currently does not use persistant superblocks, because I created
it many moons ago under the old

Hrm... ok.
It'll be probably faster for you to try a test build instead of me setting
up buildroot...

SOLVED: Re: Windows XP sees fedora14/samba3 shares but not fedora20/samba4 shares

IT WORKED!!! THANK YOU.
Now the XP machine can see both the f14 and f20 shares. (It was not
even necessary to restart nmbd or smbd on the f20 machines.)
Now, if I'm not asking for too much, can you please explain why this
worked. :-)
Many thanks

WG: Re: AW: nagios_service does not replace target file
This module does basically what I have done in the very beginning. Create an empty directory as a preparation step for the configuration files. But this configuration also did not regenerate the files. Seems, I will stick with my workaround and delete the files manually and the restart the Puppet agent. If anyone is interested in details, see: http://wp.me/p1RukY-1n.
Thanks for helping, Gabriel!

Bugreport: OpenSSH-1.2.2 Server for Linux (glibc 2.1.2)
Hi,
I would like to report a bug in OpenSSH-1.2.2 (release) under Linux.
Under certain conditions the sshd client process segfaults while doing
the password authentification. I have observed the behaviour with
glibc 2.0.7 (non-PAM), glibc 2.1.1 (PAM) and glibc 2.1.2 (PAM), when
'RhostsRSAAuthentication yes' is chosen in sshd_config. It appears to
happen regardless whether PAM is used or

Samba-3.0.0rc4/ADS experience (with how-to change suggestion)
I'm nearly finished setting up a new Samba server in a Win2000 ADS
domain. So far, things have been going quite well, the combination of
Samba 3.0.0rc4 (with winbindd), krb5 1.3.1, CUPS 1.1.19, etc. has
performed admirably and was easy to configure.
I have only three issues to mention:
- the HOWTO collection, in the section talking about joining an ADS
domain as a member server, does not

what does lsof tell? does rsync hang on a specific file?
i would wonder if this is a rsync problem. as you told you killed all processes.
so, on the second run rsync knows nothing from before...

I can confirm the problem.
Situation here: 2 identical HP Microservers (Debian 7, on site compiled
rsync 3.1.2, connected via OpenVPN).
SSH is used for transport.
Both machines have the correct date/time set via ntpd.

Re: snapshots with virsh in a pacemaker cluster
Pacemaker always knows where its resources are running. Query it, stop the
domain, then use the queried location as the host to which to issue the
snapshot?

Re: Is it possible that "virsh destroy" does not stop a domain ?
Bernd, another option would be a mismatch between the message that "virsh
destroy" issues and the message that force_stop() in the pacemaker agent
expects to receive. Pacemaker is trying to determine the success or
failure of the destroy based on the concatenation of the text of the exit
code and the text output by virsh; if either of those have changed between
virsh versions, and

How to configure passdb backend with LDAP
Hi Rowland,
> If you mean 'can I set up samba 4 as an AD DC with an LDAP backend

does samba 4 works with external LDAP server if it isn't working as AD
DC? I'm a bit confused because I want to update from samba 3 to 4 and
using our internal LDAP server to authenticate the users.
