how to get the source for installed RPM (CUPS)
I would like to change a few things in CUPS, but I would prefer to use the source
for the version of CUPS that I already have installed using yum. Mostly because I'm
quite happy with the way it works except a few details.
Is there a way to get the source using yum or should I go to
http://www.cups.org/software.php and get it from there ?
The version I installed with yum is 1.1.22 and on

webserver setup
Hi,
I have setup a webserver on CentOS 4.5 with NameVirtualHost.
Two VirtualHost should be reachable by port 80 from outside, while the
third (default) should be only reachable by https from outside but by
http from inside.
Since all share the same IP firewalling seems to be out of question. So
is there a way to restrict that in Apache config?

Cross-platform GUI libraries with drag 'n drop IDEs
OS: CentOS 5.0 x86.
I am a programmer, relatively new to GNU/Linux and am looking for cross
platform GUI development, mainly for EL5 and Windows. I have found
wxWidgets so far. I prefer drag 'n drop programming IDEs, QT seems to
provide this for GNU/Linux, but it isn't free for Windows.
Does anyone know of any decent GUI cross-platform library for EL5 and
Windows with a drag 'n

weird load values
Hi List,
I'm stumped by this:
load average: 10.65, 594.71, 526.58
We're monitoring load every ~3 minutes. It'll be fine (i.e. something
like load average: 2.14, 1.27, 1.03), and then in a single sample,
jump to something like the above. This seems to happen once a week or
so on a few different servers (all running in a similar application).
I've never seen the 1 minute

building a Xen guest image on straight LVM partitions?
Hello,
When I needed to build Xen guests under Debian I could follow more or
less the instructions in http://preview.tinyurl.com/2oc48r and the
advantage of this approach is that it allows me to setup the Xen guest
directly on the LVM partition without making it consider the LVM
partition as an entire disk with a partition table.
The advantages of this approach are:
1. I can add more LVM's

where is ProxyHTMLURLMap for C5 ?
Hello,
I'm setting up a reverse proxy in Apache (httpd-2.2.3-11.el5_1.centos.3)
I have some pages being served which contain hard-coded names of machines
behind the proxy, which obviously do not resolve on the client side.
I found an Apache config item called ProxyHTMLURLMap* which supposedly
will allow me to re-write these hostnames, but can't seem to find the
apache module to install

reasons for using CentOS in business environments
My apologies if this question has been previously answered, but could
anyone here provide me with resources that I might use to help build a
case for exclusively using CentOS in an enterprise environment?
(Approximately 200 servers)
Long story short, I've used a little of everything out there
(Gentoo/Debian/*BSD/Slackware) and have a fairly good overall strategy
of how they all work (all of

Writing with xapian-tcpsrv and php
Hi,
I think, there is missing constructor function supporting remote
writing for XapianWritableDatabase class in the php bindings (0.9.7).
This code:
$db = new XapianWritableDatabase(remote_open($db_host, $db_port),
$action);
returns:
Fatal error: No matching function for overloaded
'new_XapianWritableDatabase' (...)
$db = new XapianWritableDatabase($path, $action); works fine.

Building rpm-s from binaries
Hi,
We'd like to simplify deployment of new blades and I need to package some of
proprietary libs we are using, and obviously I don't have sources for them.
Can anybody point me into good direction how to make packages from binaries? I
have basic knowledge about building rpms, but it seems to be source oriented.
Thanks in advance

searching for yum packages necessary for mail gateway
I'm looking for the Red Hat equivalent of this Debian statement
"apt-get ?y install postfix mailscanner spamassassin bind9 clamav ssh

"yum search" can't find some of the packages. Is there some sort of

How to mount a remote file system to another linux box
Hi,
I have applied traffic shaping on firewall running CentOS 4.5.
eth1 is the device where I have done traffic shaping. I am now running some
monitoring tools such as polltc and tc-graph.pl. They generate graphs. These
graphs are updated every 10 seconds. They have been saved on the firewall it
self. To view thsese graphs, I have to enable apache on firewall it self.
But I do not need to run

RPM package wish list
hello,
Does our beloved Centos project have a page where one can request that an RPM package be built, especially for C5? How about alerts when those requests have been satisfied?
I know about 3rd party repos like rpmforge, epel, and kbextras. I can search those in YUM.
Centos seems to have specialized as a server OS in the past, but my experience is that it is an up and coming
