Adding workstations to domain as non-root
Hi,
The Problem:
I have a samba domain using LDAP as the backend, complete with the
IdealX LDAP scripts.
Most of my Unix boxes (certainly anything which does any Samba stuff)
authenticates against the same LDAP backend, using it for groups and
users.
I need to grant some people sufficient priviliges to add workstations
to the domain, but I don't want to give them the root password in

Account Unknown for users with Samba 3.0.11/14
Hi,
I've got a problem with a samba server I inherited which I can't solve.
I think it's the configuration rather than the version because I have
the same problem with a 3.0.14 and a 3.0.11 Samba server with almost
identical configurations. Both authenticate against LDAP, one has an
old smbpasswd file which should no longer be in use.
The issue is that when I click

Does anyone know what the unix UID is deleting a user in USRMGR?
I'm using Samba with ldap and while I can create users just fine with usrmgr (logged in as myself, but when I delete a user, it
seems to have trouble running my "delete user script"

Xp without netbios - few questions with samba 3 - smbldap_open: cannot access LDAP when not root
Hi,
On samba 3 winserver enabled
On xp I can work with smb on 2 ways
1 ) smb over tcpip without netbios. I was suprised because I can
logged onto the domain. Xp client found the primary domain controler. I
am not able to add permissions ( only the local machine domain is
visible ). How xp client found the DC ( cache DC name on the client ,
wins answer on port 445 ?)
2 ) smb over netbios.

Log: lib/smbldap.c:smbldap_open(1009)
Hi.
I'm dealing with this "lib/smbldap.c:smbldap_open(1009)" message in the
log file. I tried to find some hint in the net but I couldn't find
anything that pointed to a solution.
Below are the surrounding messages in a excerpt of the log file:

smbldap_open: cannot access LDAP when not root..
Greetings list,
I just upgraded my main file server, and copied over a dump of my LDAP
database, samba conf files, tdbs, etc.
Everything fired up OK and runs, except:
-Some users (perhaps 5 or 6 out of 125) can't log in, getting the "domain
unavailable" message
-I can't rejoin them to the domain - the process appears to succeed, but
doesn't
-One of the machine accounts

Srvtools causes smbldap_open: cannot access LDAP when not root
I am using Samba 3.0.10-1 on Fedora Core 3. Most everything seems to be
working as I expect it to except when I try to use the srvtools package to
administrate the users and groups in the domain.
I want to check and see whether maybe I am just misunderstanding usage as
opposed to their being a configuration problem.
If I log into my workstation as Administrator, either the local account or

NT Workstation and Samba PDC
Hi.
I'm having a big trouble.
We migrate a NT PDC to a Samba PDC. No problems in migration. Everything
works fine.
The problem is: I can't add a NT machine to Domain. Simply does not work. XP
and W2K works great.
I started using Debian Sarge Package 3.0.14. In this version I could not
manage groups using the Domain User Manager from NT. So I updated to
3.0.23cpackages from
samba.org.

smbldap_open: cannot access LDAP when not root..
Dear Help,
I currently have a Samba PDC along with multiple BDCs using an eDirectory LDAP
backend. While trying to figure out how to get the bad password account lockout
feature to work, I managed to somehow mess up the samba PDC.
If a user attempts to authenticate against the PDC with the correct password,
all is well and works as usual. However, if I use an incorrect password, the

Overloaded samba server. Is it a bug?
Experts,
We've just migrated from samba 2.2.8a to samba 3.0.20b in a very large
corporate environment. Everything was really fine in our lab, but we
began
experiment serious load problems on the productive servers the morning
after
the procedure took place. I'll try (briefly) to describe the
characteristics
of the scenario:

ldap guest account mapping looks broken
I'm running the samba-client-3.0.20-0.1 SUSE RPM. I was using the
version that came with 9.3 but upgraded to see if this specific
problem would go away.
Guest access does not appear to be working correctly, and it looks
like the problem is due to guest not getting mapped into the LDAP
query correctly.
Specifically, I can login with local account, join workstation to the
domain, browse

Hi !
I though I solved my "add users to the doman admins group" by chmod

For now, I'm concentrating about something that's in my log file:

Hi,
we have Samba 2.2.8a+LDAP 2.0.27 domain controllers running on our
Debian servers and I'm preparing the update to Samba 3.0.0. Everything
seems to work fine so far, except that I get some error messages that I
don't understand. Could someone please explain them to me? Should I wait
for the next Samba release before switching to 3.x?

PDC + LDAP, cannot access LDAP when not root
I'm using Debian Sarge, Samba (3.1.14a) with the ldapsam backend, and
OpenLDAP (2.2.23).
When attempting to join an Windows XP+SP2 computer (BILLGATES) to my
domain (WORKGROUP), using the Administrator account, I am told by
windows: 'Access denied.'
The logs (attached) seem to indicate that the user Administrator is
being authenticated (which would have? to use LDAP), but when It
