Running Samba 3 in a FreeBSD jail
Hello, I've been trying to get a solution (or at least an explanation) from the FreeBSD guys at freebsd-questions lists, but I guess no one knew the answer. I am trying to run Samba 3 (latest) in a FreeBSD 7.0 jail (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FreeBSD_Jail). It seems I cannot convince Samba to answer NetBIOS broadcast requests and therefore Windows machines cannot browse it directly by name

75 seconds timeout when negotiating with smbd.
Hello all, After upgrading to 3.0.23c on my FreeBSD 6.1 box Samba stopped working on any connections. When connecting to smbd, tcp session is established (SYN, SYN+ACK, ACK) then a client send a NEGOTIATION packet, and after some timeout (about 10-15 seconds) this tcp session is closed (by the client) because no response to NEG. packet was received. Then after 75 seconds (counting from the

using tinc in a mixed ipv4/ipv6 network
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I'm using tinc to connect a couple of ipv6 capable machines using a mix of upd6, udp4, tcp6 and tcp4. Now I wanted to add an linux embedded device, which has no ipv6 support at all. Tinc did compile and configuration is fine (tested on other machine), but after connecting the embedded device to other hosts tinc instances, it suddenly crashes.

How can Samba both work, and, suddenly stop working, simultaneously?
Samba, (smbd version 3.0.20) has been working splendidly on my machine for more than four years. It has run without a hitch. And then suddenly, today, it has stopped working. I haven't changed anything, I haven't installed anything on the server and I haven't removed anything. So I'm at a loss to know what's wrong with it. I can only interact with the server from the local

Lots of FIN_WAIT_1 TCP Connections and deadlock in zoneli state
Hi All, I am running squid as reverse proxy on FreeBSD 7.0-R amd64. After running for a while (~ 8 hours), the throughput degrades to very very low rate. I found the squid is in "zoneli" state and is already a bug report on http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=106317 But after more investigation, I found there are lots of TCP Connections in FIN_WAIT_1 and never close. # netstat

Chrooting dovecot.
Greetings, I have installed Dovecot under FreeBSD 5_3 It is pretty impressive. I got SSL working with no problem for both imap and pop3. Besides that I do still want to chroot Dovecot. I noticed that there are some options in the dovecot.conf that are intended for this. Unfortunately online resources on how to do that can't be found on google. Although I'm running the server as user

Is my Apache server running as the root user or not?
Heya.. By reading my /usr/local/etc/apache2/httpd.conf, I can find out that my Apache is running as the user "www" and the group "www" .. If I got a lot of users connecting to my server on port 80, will thier requests ever be
