Samba LDAP PDC BDC quit working
We have had a Samba LDAP-PDC-BDC system setup for close to 3 months with about 60 computers in the domain. Earlier we had a power outage and about 30 computers no longer were able to log into the domain or authenticate. Some were NT Workstations and some were W2k. But not all NT or W2K workstations were affected. If we went to network neighborhood we would see the error message "

[Follow-UP] samba BDC + LDAP slave Referral errors
hi, i see the same error message with samba 3.0.14a and OpenLDAP 2.2.23 (Debian Packages) with Master/Slave setup. i did not set up a referral to the master, so why does samba get a referral when attempting to write to a slave? is this an in-build samba feature? do i have to enable referrals to get this to work properly? any advise is appreciated! thx! micha Zwonarz Ivo wrote: > We use

AD and Samba BDC
Hi. I don't find a way to make a Samba BDC replicate an AD Server. I need to authenticate in Samba BDC if my link with AD PDC goes down. I read that it is not possible. Is this true ? Samba 4 will do this ? Thanks, **-- Marcelo H. Terres mhterres@gmail.com

XP Joining Samba Domain
I have successfully joined the XP machine to the domain. The strange part is, that it only wanted to be joined if it connected to the PDC and not the BDC. The way it is set-up is that the XP machine and a BDC is in one branch and the PDC is in another. Every time I would try to connect via the BDC, it would return a value ACCESS DENIED I stopped the smb service on the BDC, and got it to

Unable to add attrib +r for directory
Hi all I have a Samba PDC (samba 3.0.21c) with Openldap , and a BDC (samba 3.0.21c) with slave ldap server. I have some foxpro files on the share created on BDC, and the users logon on and access the foxpro files on the shares declared on BDC. Trouble joining domain at BDC site
I have no trouble joining the domain in our main office(samba PDC) or a branch office(samba BDC) but for some reason I can't join the domain at the branch office 2(also samba BDC) All three offices are running 3.0.11 and the 2 branch offices have identical configurations, aside from ip address'. The message I get from Windows XP is: The following error occured attempting to join the

[UNDERSTANDING] BDC and Trusted Domain
hi list, just for my knowledge -> we have a working PDC / BDC infrastructure for our domain DOMA, where PDC trusts another PDC from DOMB (all samba v3). when PDC from DOMA goes down, is the trust still valid or do we have to setup the trust on *both* DCs from DOMA (net rpc trustdom establish DOMB ... )? is that possible at all? thx&greez -- Michael Gasch Max Planck Institute for

BDC and password change program
Hello, Just wondering what I should be using for the password change program on a BDC. Should it be: passwd program = /usr/bin/smbpasswd -r <PDC address> %u I'm having a problem with passwords not staying in sync between the PDC and BDC with pass backend ldap. The systems are all Fedora Core 4, Samba 3.0.14a, openldap 2.2.23 Kent N

BDC nmblookup and net getlocalsid not working
Hi, After lots of struggle and rtfm I finally got most things running, except for 'nmblookup' and 'net getlocalsid' on the BDC. I'm not new to Samba, but plenty more to learn. Here's the setup in summary: system pdc is the PDC on subnet 192.168.0.0, running SuSE10.1, LDAP master, wins server, domain master browser, no iptables; system bdc is the BDC on subnet 192.168.2.0,

Understanding Documentation about BDC in HowTo Collection
hi list&john, i read in the documention about BDCs: The domain SID has to be the same on the PDC and the BDC. In Samba versions pre-2.2.5, the domain SID was stored in the file |private/MACHINE.SID|. For all versions of Samba released since 2.2.5 the domain SID is stored in the file |private/secrets.tdb|. This file is unique to each server and cannot be copied from a PDC to a BDC; the BDC

Samba BDC doesn't talk to LDAP slave on same machine
Hello, I can't get my BDC to talk to the LDAP slave running on the same machine. Replication between slave and master works but samba on the BDC doesn't appear to be communicating with the slave LDAP server. Everything off the PDC works fine. -- smb.conf on BDC -- [global] workgroup = WarehamPS encrypt passwords = Yes time offset = 60 time server = Yes

BDC Server Settings Doubts?
Hi people. I have finally my PDC+BDC running with LDAP+replicaon different subnets. My doubts are simple, I want to understand a little more about BDC. My network is this: Domaine Name=DOMA Networks:NET-A 192.168.40.0/24 NET-B 192.168.50.0/24 PDC=192.168.40.2 BDC=192.168.50.2 wins server = PDC As u can see, both serves exist on different subnets,I want to

Promoting BDC to PDC
Hi, Does someone know how will all my client machines find the BDC when the PDC is stopped. Both PDC and BDC are running Samba with LDAPSAM backend replicated on both the PDC with master LDAP database and BDC with replicated LDAP database. But when I stop PDC the clients are not detecting the BDC broadcast. The replication on all domain controllers are perfect. I went as far as making BDC

How SMB client recognizes when to use PDC or BDC
Hi, Maybe this was asked many time (although can't find it on google). Let's assume 2 scenarios: 1) I've got local network where PDC and BDC are set up. PDC is working fine so the BDC is. When it's possible for any XP client to use BDC instead of PDC? I read in samba docs that if PDC is slow client can use BDC - but what does it mean slow for the client? How the client knows

BDC needs a [profile] and [netlogon] share ?
Hi all, I have a BDC which uses the LDAP backend of my PDC. Unfortunately all the users who log-in in the morning and who are processed by this BDC, do not get their logon script executed. The BDC logs this error message: [2013/05/24 07:28:11.946577, 2] auth/auth.c:304(check_ntlm_password) check_ntlm_password: authentication for user [foobar] -> [foobar] -> [foobar] succeeded

Samba BDC and secrets.tdb question
I have a question about setting up a samba BDC (with a samba PDC). I am running Samba as the PDC on a small network. Other Unix boxes on the network are running with: security = DOMAIN encrypt passwords = Yes update encrypted = Yes password server = 192.168.1.5 So they make use of the PDC for smbmount and smbsh applications. The W2K box also uses Samba at the PDC. I want to set up a Redhat

Autentication against BDC first
Hi all, I have this question, I ve got a master LDAP server on a remote place and i want to install a PDC and a BDC and a slave ldap server in other place. Mi question is... may I force de WorkStations logging (read the information )against the BDC first than PDC, so the READ trafic goes to the Slave Ldap??? The problem is the network avoid READ traffic. In the Samba FAQ recomends that the:
