unable to sync browse lists
I'm having two problems. I encountered the second while trying to set up a clean environment to work on the first. Can somebody tell me if (a) I've done something obviously wrong, or (b) this is a known Samba bug? Any help is appreciated. John. First problem: From nmbd: domain_master_node_status_fail: Doing a node status request to the domain master browser for workgroup

host machine doesn't show up in browse list
What is the minimum smb.conf configuration options required to make the host show up in the windows 2000 network neighbourhood browse list? Currently I've only set `workgroup', `netbios name', `server string'. What else needs to be there? My apologies if this has been asked before, I did scan the mailing lists before I posted but most of the postings referred to multiple subnet

Getting my samba server to show up in browse lists
I've succeeded in making my samba server visible around the net, however I can't convince the thing to appear in the browse lists on remote subnets. I've read John Terpstra's article on configuring a browser at http://samba.anu.edu.au/samba/ftp/docs/BROWSING-Config.txt however my (admittedly willful) ignorance of Microsoft networking is making this article seem rather

allowing anyone to browse and print (NT 4.0 SP3, 9.18p10)
I'm having lots of hassles and troubles since I moved to 1.18p10: 1\ Why do I need a smbpasswd and have to have a user equivalent on the unix machine when an NT user wants to print via an smb printer? My NT/Win users shouldn't need to know anything about unix and I don't want to tell them "you have to log into my unix machine and invoke

smbclient does not show.....
Hi, this is a new user who is trying to reach the local network, managed by a windows NT server. I have edited my smb.conf file (which I include) so to be able to reach the network drives and the printers on the ntserver locally. When I try to see what is available using smbclient at the prompt, I cannot see which are the Services available (sharename fields empty), but I do see a lot of things

WINS server DMB and LMBs not communicating across subnet to update browse lists?
Referencing: http://www.linuxtopia.org/online_books/network_administration_guides/samba_reference_guide/17_NetworkBrowsing_34.html I've got two subnets (192.168.2.1 and 192.168.1.1). All the machines on both subnets are running XP Home or Pro and are all part of the same workgroup (WORKGROUP). I've added an OpenSUSE box on x.x.2.1 and have set it as the WINS server with a very simple

Machines not disappearing from browse list
Hello, we are using "samba-2.0.6" (running on linux-2.2.14 machine). On our client machines we use "Windows 9x". There are 2 network segments: Segment 1 (192.168.1.0): - 13 Win95 client machines - 1 samba-2.0.6 server ("fsa01") which is WINS, DMB and LMB in its network segment (192.168.1.0). This samba is also the login server for our Win9x clients. Segment 2

syncing browse lists - it doesn't!
I have 3 domains, A & B on 1 IP subnet, and the C is spread across 2 subnets. Samba is running on the Linux box that routes the 2 subnets for domain C. Its joined up to the C domain, and is in the C workgroup. Its also the WINS server, and local master (but not Domain Master, the NT PDC has to be). It serves WINS for all 3 domains. Domain C (the one Samba lives in) shows in the browse

Browse list only shows Samba server
Hi all, I'm having a small problem with browsing. I've got a network full of Windows (2000 and XP) machines and I've installed a Samba server in it. The server is configured to be Domain Master Browser (DMB), Local Master Browser (LMB) and WINS server for a workgroup. The Win machines are configured to use the WINS server. Name resolution works perfectly, but browsing

Hello I have this problem with printing to a HP Laser Jet 4L set up on my linux box which is the local samba server for the intranet. I can only print as root or as a user admin user = thatuser. I need to be able to set a password for the printer and only those users to use the printer who know the password. Or a similar solution. As ordinary user Windows98 says:

browser problem
The browsing capability in Network Neighborhood disppears periodically. Usually, double-clicking on Network Neighborhood gives us a list of all the NT and Unix/samba boxes on the network segment (i.e. in the Workgroup). When browsing disppears, all we see is *Entire Network*, which has nothing in it. We run a unix/NT network with 6 unix servers and about 80 NT clients. We are running NT
