Creating a machine account manually (EMC, Samba PDC)
Greetings, I am trying to join a EMC Celerra NS502 CIFS server to our Samba 3.0.21a domain controller. According to EMC, I was told that we need to manually create the machine account first. How is the best way to do this? We are using an openLDAP backend, using the idealx scripts. Joining a windows machine from the computer properties dialog of that machine works perfectly. Poor performance on open/copy/close/rename file operations via remote/VPN connection
Hello, I have Samba version 3.0.24 running on a 2.6.14-gentoo-r5 x86 kernel (xeon 3ghz, 1gb ram raid 5). All clients accessing samba shares via LAN have no problems. Samba server works perfectly and fast. We are instead experiencing serious performance issues when accessing samba shares from remote clients (WAN), via VPN. Simple operations like "open a file", "copy & paste a

Samba interface for administrative tools
Hi all, I have tried to write management tools for samba, but it seems there's no standard way provided by Samba to change its configuration or modify users account other than direct modify the config file and or database backend. This make many tools less portable because it depends on the backend of samba. There might be a windows rpc call (use by usrmgr.exe and svrmgr.exe), is it the

How to open a file in MS Office with double-click
I really enjoy MS Office 2003 on wine (Ubuntu Intrepid). I even figured out how to export files as PDF without distortion. There is one thing though I'm not satisfied with: Double-clicking on .doc, .xls. etc.. file starts corresponding office application (Word, Excel) with blank page instead of opening the file. I entered correct path to file but does not work. Of course it?s not a huge

Invoking a remote (AJAX) action via double click
I have a list of images on one of my pages, and I would like for the act of double-clicking on any of them to do a remote request to an action. In this case, I''d like to pop up a redbox that is a dialog about the item I clicked on. I found some example code like this: <%= image_tag "image.jpg", :class => "image", :ondblclick =>

OK to have Asterisk and clients behind firewalls?
Hi To investigate the UNREACHABLE issue I'm having, I need to have confirmation that it's OK for the Asterisk server to be behind a NAT router, and also have clients elsewhere on the Net behind their own NAT router? I know that clients must use STUN to resolve their public IP and punch UDP holes in their firewall, but is there something special that must be done in the configuration

open .r files with double-click
Hi Folks, On Windows XP, R 2.5.0. After reading the Installation for Windows and Windows FAQs, I cannot resolve this. I set file types so that Rgui.exe will open .r files. When I try to open a .r file by double-clicking, R begins to launch, but I get an error message saying "Argument 'C:\Documents and Settings\Zoology\My Documents\trial.r' _ignored_" I click OK, and then R

Dovecot Wiki: Please disable edit on double click
Hi Aki, could you maybe disable the 'edit on doubleclick' feature on wiki2.dovecot.org? Everytime I try to select a word by double clicking on it, I end up in editing mode. It's just a minor thing, but maybe I'm not the only one who's annoyed by this ;) Thanks! Michael

Running script with double-click
Hi, I need to be able to run an R script by double-clicking the file name in Windows. I've tried associating the .r extension with the different R .exe's in /bin but none seems to work. Some open R then close right away, and Rgui.exe gives the message ARGUMENT "/my/file.r" __ignored__ before opening a new, blank session. I've tried Google and looking in the R for

bug - 3.0.14, 3.0.21 intractable browsing problems - help needed
Hello: This browsing problem is not going away. We have followed the how-to, used someone else's "known good" config, perused packet dumps until we were blue, and tried replicating the setup in a laboratory environment to see if it was site-specific. The problem is still there: If the Samba server is the domain browser, the Network Neighborhood (or My Network Places) for the

currently no logon servers available to service logon request
Hi all, My Samba server with winbind in an NT4 domain ran fine for a year, now this message is all we get from the windows side. Can it be because it is not listed in the WINS? Whe I look at it from Svrmgr in NT then it says access denied. The same happens using net view Why does it not register with the WINS server? If I configure Samba as a wins server - will it run together with an NT WINS

Samba NT Domain User/Group Confusion
I'm confused about how this works in Samba. Its been a while since I set up a server and I've gotten myself confused. The new server are Ubuntu AMD64 Linux with Samba 3.0.22 One of these is the PDC. The legacy Servers are Solaris 8 running Samba 3.0.24. We are using winbindd and local tdb files on the PDC for authentication. We plan to migrate to LDAP latter. I have used SWAT to

Need Help Getting Windows XP To Use Samba Properly
Hi everyone, new to the list. My apologies if this issue has already been covered, but I am having the following problem with Samba: Using Windows XP as a client, I am trying to see a Solaris system as a server. Solaris is running Samba 2.4.2, and Windows 2000 sees it as a server without any problems. Windows XP, however, generates the error "The network name is no longer
