I had to remove reference to some printer drivers via tdbtool on ntdrivers.tdb. 1. Do I need to restart smbd and nmbd to make these changes take effect? 2. If I restart smbd and nmbd will connected users get disconnected?

Hello. I'm trying to find a way to administer a (set of) standalone samba machines (3.x style) locally. Most things are now done using `net rpc' command. But this one connects to a (local) samba server over network, and hence requires auth. Another example is pdbedit tool which accesses local passdb.tdb file directly as long as user running this command has the necessary permissions.

Hello Everybody, we got new networkprinters and set them up. They work fine, but driverupload doesn't seem to work. We deleted the drivers used by the printers we had before. In /varcache/samba/ I have several .tdb files. Like brlock.tdb, locking.tdb, ntdrivers.tdb, etc. Excusing my ignorance, what are these files, and what do they do? And why must they be copied when migrating from one samba server to a new one?

Hello Sharing out unix home directory via samba. Home directory is /home/% username% . However, samba insists on sharing this directory as /home/% domain%/%username% . So a user can see their home directory as server %username% from windows. But, when they click on it, they get an error and the samba log says that the share /home/%domain%/%username% doesn't exist. Hello Nick, I do not think it is possible to just copy files like this from one to the other samba. You can do the copy job with rsync or scp. I made a samba PDC and BDC with ldap master ldap slave. I've installed everything and then went to back-up and brought back all the stuff from /etc/samba and /var/cache/samba and all /etc/cups and /etc/printcap*.
