Samba 3.2 and MS Client 3.11 for DOS
Dear all,
Sorry that this question might seem to be stupid. Can MS Client
3.11 for DOS connect to Samba 3.2, and connect the network drive? It
worked before, but not now.
Thank you very much in advance.

Virtual User Home Directory, and APOP Clear Text Passwords
Dear all,
Hi. This is imacat from Taiwan. I'm new to this list.
I was migrating from Qpopper to Dovecot. (Qpopper copies the
mailbox when POP3 logged in, which causes quota problem.) Generally
Dovecot is nice. However, I have a few questions:
1. I have a few virtual users, and I'm not using IMAP. Do I still
have to give them a writable home directory? I mean, they

password case sensitivity
Dear all,
I have a problem regarding to password case sensitivity.
Our company's servers are configured to use plain text passwords
with PAM due to historical reasons. My collegues encountered a long
delay each time they boot their PC and map the network shared disks.
They sometimes even failed connection. The server always says:

POP3 Mails Not Deleted
Dear all,
Hi. This is imacat from Taiwan. We are running Dovecot 1.1.1. I
received complaints from one of my colleagues. She checks her mails
both from home and from office, so she left her mails in the server for
3 days. This morning she got lots of received mails again. I tracked
the syslog, and found the following records:

Debian 4.0 r0 Etch, kernel 2.6.18, gcc 4.1.2, glibc 2.3.6. Before

Agent Socket Directory
Dear All,
Is it possible to move agent sockets to directories other than /tmp?
For ex., move to /var/run/ssh?
I don't know if anyone has asked for this before. I'm asking this
because according to the current FHS 2.2 (http://www.pathname.com/fhs/),
PID files and sockets should always go to /var/run. I understand that
it is not possible for an ordinary user to write to /var/run,

Samba printing with LPRng?
Has anybody ever used Samba with LPRng? I would like to write a wrapper
for "lpq -l" which Samba will use to pass information back to Windows 95
and Windows NT clients. The information is all there, but it's obviously
different from the standard BSD lpq.
Any pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike.

mount problems with recent mount and samba
I have a problem mounting Samba shares with recent mount packages from
RedHat and Samba packages from samba site. I have tried samba-2.2.4 RPM
and samba-2.2.5 (built for RH7.2). In all cases mount fails if I use
RH mount package version > 2.11b (current is 2.11n). If I also use
Samba packages (2.2.4) from RedHat Rawhide - everyhting works
Here is detailed description I have submitted to RH

smbmount, smbumount and smbmnt
Hi,
I am deploying samba for an embedded system. The requirement is that the
system should be able to mount windows share points. I believe "smbmount,
smbumount and smbmnt" components are needed to do the same. I am not very
clear about smbmnt though!
I find that smbmount, smbumount and smbmnt are all quite huge. Around 300
to 400Kb each.
I understand that Samba is capable of doing

smbmnt as user
Hello all,
I read in the smbmnt man page that:
"A setuid smbmnt will only allow mounts on directories owned by the
user, and that the user has write permission on."
I am trying to set up a mount on /mnt/laptop. I have given my users 777
permissions on the directory, but it is owned by root. Is there any way
that I can work around this. It appears from the man page that smbmnt
