making Samba works together with PAM
Ok fellows,
This is my last try. Please, anybody tell me if
something is missing on this list!
I need to setup on a Linux + Samba (PDC) to restrict
just one login per ID (not allow two logins with same
id).So:
1 - edit /etc/pam.d/samba -> chaging session line with
session required /lib/security/pam_limits.so
2 - in /etc/security/limits.conf:
* - maxlogins 1
3 - in smb.conf:

"obey pam restrictions" and encrypted passwords
Hello everybody,
I?m using Red Hat 7.3 with Samba setup as a PDC, and
I?m having a doubt.
I am studying the directive "obey pam restrictions"
because I would like to limit the number of logins
with the same id. The documentation provided by SWAT
tells me that encrypted passwords (like used by
Windows98SE) will NOT follow these restrictions.
Anybody could tell me if this information is

Branches
I've got more changes on my to-do list, but I want to ensure I'm
making my changes against the right branch.
* I'm working with trunk now. I don't think its TCP tunneling is as
secure as the UDP tunneling. It looks like its IVs and HMACs are
added and verified in send_udppacket and receive_udppacket. The TCP
connection encrypts but doesn't have these anti-modification

libsieve support
Hi,
I was wondering - are there any plans on switching the sieve plug-in to use
libsieve (http://libsieve.sourceforge.net/)? The rationale of using this
library is simple - cmusieve codebase seems stagnant and libsieve promises to
implement some new sieve rfc drafts.

Cisco, Sip, Linux, ISDN
I am one of the few people left in the US with a ISDN connection to the
internet. (Internet cable has been promised "Real Soon Now" for a couple
years). Worse, my home network runs on a decrepit Cisco 2500 series
router, and is double-natted via a firewall, which is why I currently
use iax to call anywhere.
I have been making ever-increasing use of my asterisk PBX, and I'm ready

SMP goes away after installworld (4.8-STABLE)
Hello,
I installed 4.8-RELEASE a few weeks ago, and since I let
the effort sit stagnant for a while I decided to do the
cvsup/buildworld/buildkernel/installkernel/installworld/mergemaster/MAKEDEV
steps to get current.
Went fine, rebooted, then noticed that just one CPU was recognized:

VP3 In ffmpeg
Hi,
Sorry for taking so long with this, but I finally committed a
first pass of my own VP3 decoder to the ffmpeg codebase. You can browse
the source here:
http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/ffmpeg/ffmpeg/libavcodec/
vp3.c and vp3data.h are the files in question. Attached is a message I
sent to the ffmpeg-devel list about the new decoder and its present
shortcomings.

what's the plans for the website :-)
I've had a server co-located which I would've dedicated it
and given admin access for beta testers, right now i am
giving it back. I am / was running shoutcast for few more
days.
It is very easy to install Ikonboard as a FORUM or vBulletin
or phpBulletin or something where you can get some action
and have some people stay on the site. I've installed bunch
of those. Have specific

<p>The list doesn't seem any more stagnant than the website ;-)
Seriously, the lack of current news on the website must have a turning-away effect for curious folks checking www.iccast.org out. There's a recent post from 18 days ago, but there was a "no news" dry spell between August 7 2001 and April 10 2002! During this time I

Branches (again)
A long long time ago, I asked about the different tinc branches.
Guus, you said at the time that
* trunk is 1.0, bugfixes only
* 1.0-gnutls, POKEY, and pre4-cube are stagnant
* 2.0 is where new work should happen...at the time, it didn't
compile, and it appears it still doesn't
This answer discouraged me; I have trouble getting excited about new
work in a branch that's been

Re: VIA sata + Xen 3.0 boot lockup problems (solved)
Hello!
Now i`m able to boot the kernel i`ve compiled. The
lockup problem was solved using "apci=off" as a kernel
boot option and the panic problem was due to some
option missing during kernel config time (the problem
was between the chair and the keyboard - Me! :-).
Below is attached a diff between the working .config

Is Phusion Passenger (mod_rails) good for single app servers
There is a lot of hype over mod_rails, but from my understanding it is
more geared for servers with a number of apps on it. The reason it
seems that way is how it frees up the memory if an app is stagnant for
an extended period. The freeing up of the memory may not be an issue if
the application gets a continuous traffic flow.

[LLVMdev] Scheme + LLVM JIT
LLVM list,
I bumped into Alex Friedman in the hall today and by coincidence
he mentioned that they were switching to LLVM for their PLT Scheme
JIT project. I had evaluated LLVM a few weeks ago for my own purposes,
but decided that it was too C/C++ centered and that critical features
such as tail call optimization and other stack manipulation features
were likely stagnant. So naturally I asked
