2.2.x Printing from Win2k-more clues
I've discovered a couple of things while
troubleshooting my printer setup problems.
1. print$ must be 0744. I ran a level-3
debug, and was seeing "chmod failed" errors.
Upping it to level-10, I saw something that
pointed to unix rights of 0744; my dir's were
set to 0755 or 0777...neither worked. When I
set print$ and it's subdir's to 0744,
the chmod errors went away.

Unable to join samba server to a NT4 style domain
Hello,
I have installed Samba version 3.0.13 on a Solaris 9 machine and am trying to add it to an existing NT domain as a member server. I have followed the instructions in Chapter 2 of the Samba HOW-TO collection for adding a samba server as a Domain member. The problem is that when i use the net rpc join command to join the domain, I get the following error:
# ./net rpc join -U

Print jobs hang in Samba, don't go to UNIX spooler
I have encountered a strange printing problem with Samba 2.2.4 running under
HP-UX 11i.
In the process of investigating a printing problem, I have found that Samba
has stopped passing jobs along to the UNIX lp spooler as of yesterday
afternoon.
When NT/W2K clients print to printers on my server, the jobs are accepted,
Samba
spool files are created in the spool directory defined for the printer

Tr: RE: Samba 2.2.5 and printers
Ok, I solved the problem by myself. The problem was that the users with wich I tried to connect to the printer where defined as admin users, and I declared root as an invalid user in the samba configuration, so it always give me an access denied because it tried to connect as root.
Anyway thanks for the time you waste trying to help me ;-)

Win2k Printing Problems
I just joined this list, If this has been answered before I apologize:
I have a Redhat 7.2 box running Samba 2.2.4
I have a few printers running on JetDirect boxes that I am attempting
to print to.
I used printconf in Redhat to set them up within the linux box.
Everything works fine from the linux box.
I set them up within samba (see [printers] below), but when I print I

RE: Browsing cont'd
Don't forget to add the #PRE after the host info; that way it preloads it.
Create one lmhosts file for the Win boxes, and copy to either
\windows (win9x)
\winnt\system32\drivers\etc (NT/Win2k/XP)
then open a DOS Prompt and type nbtstat -R to flush/refresh
the cached info.
The samba box's hosts go in /etc, /lmhosts go in /etc/samba
(if you're using the current defaults. Put the

Jim,
Not only does the buffer scrapper code show paused if the Printer name is
something like CSQ_office_a but if the host has off in the name like -->
hp@mercylaboffice.pa-ucl.com it puts it on pause...

my printers are still paused in Win2k and WinNT 4.0
Hello,
It seems that I am in printer hell once again :) I am trying to sort out
some printer problems with our UNIX server. The basic problem is this. I
have a test server to K.I.S.S the problem. On this server I have defined two
queues which are csqlis and HPfinley. csqlis seems to work correctly and
displays ready. HPfinley always reads Paused on win2k and NT40 clients. The

Printer Rights Fail
Hello everyone,
I upgraded my Samba server on my RHL 7.2 box from 2.2.3a to 2.2.7. Almost
immediately afterwards, all of my admin users suddenly were unable to access
the printers that were being shared by Samba. Any idea of what is wrong and
how to fix it? The messages I'm getting are that I do not have enough
rights.
I am using a Windows 2000 Server PDC and a lot of Windows XP Pro, and

Win2K sp4 can't print
Hi,
I just installed 2 Win2K sp4 workstations on an otherwise working Samba 2.2.8a
network and 2 of the 3 printers are showing "Access denied". What's up with that?
The other computers that are working just fine are Win98, XP and Win2K NOT sp4.
Here is part of the global section:

FIXED - Print jobs hang in Samba, don't go to UNIX spool er
OK, it's working now. I waited until the production lines
were undergoing a shift change and brought down all of Samba,
then restarted it. Printing now works just fine. I still
don't know what caused the problem, I never saw any error
messages in the [sn]mbd or client logs, even with the log
level turned turned up to 2.
Thanks very much for the time and trouble you took to think

It is possible to tunnel various protocols - NNTP, FTP, HTTP etc thru SSH.
Is it possible to do the same using SMB?
TIA,

OpenBSD 3.3 and samba-2.2.8
Hi and hello.
Does anyone have installed Samba using the ports-collection in OpenBSD
recently?
My WindowsXP-computers can't find the computer on the network at all. I use
the standard smb.conf wich comes with the port-installation, exept these
changes:

encrypted passwords = yes
hosts allow = 192.168.1. 192.168.2.0./24 192.168.3.0/255.255.255.0

Any ESRI users? Upgrade 3.0.14 to 3.0.21a broke Arcmap layer loading?
We just upgraded our samba server from 3.0.14 to 3.0.21a and have discovered
a subtle but very painful problem.
Users of ESRI ArcMap (on fully patched Windows XP clients) are unable to
read complex layered file data.
Arcmap works fine with 3.0.14, it works fine with the data on a windows
share, and it works fine when I set up a server to run the version of samba
shipping with Solaris 9 (3.0.2! ).

SOLVED was Re: Any ESRI users? Upgrade 3.0.14 to 3.0.21a broke Arcmap layer loading?
Did not hear from anyone on this, so maybe we are the only ESRI users who
got bit, but this turned out to be an issue with oplocks. Disabling oplocks
on the server eliminated the problem.
