Samba Posix ACL and classical files permissions
Hi, i'm experiencing a strange behavior in the way samba shows file and folders permissions under windows explorer. When i open the folder or file properties under windows (xp sp2 btw), it shows in the Security panel all the entries, both classical posix ones and posix acl ones; but if i select each one of them to see file permissions, it will show only the permission of users indicated

tdbsam Question
Dumb question time; I can't find the answer in the Samba-3 or HOWTO docs: how do you add users to the passdb.tdb (tdbsam's db)? Is pdbedit the only way? I ask because the Chapt 3 Samba-3 example has passdb = tdbsam in the samba config file, but the instructions for adding users are to use useradd and smbpasswd, which leave passdb.tdb empty (except for root--I have no idea how that

Getting Samba to only use filesystem permission checks
Hi everyone, Does anyone know whether it's possible to get Samba to skip doing its internal permission checks and instead rely on the OS for this? The reason I ask is that I have a single share called "web" which contains three folders. Each of these folders is a remote CIFS mount from another Samba server. The problem is that UNIX extensions are enabled for all of these mounts,

ASN.1 encoding ended?
Hi all. Im having a bit of a problem. I have about 20 Samba servers all over the country on 256/512 WAN links. We just upgraded our primary NT4 domain to mixed-mode Active Directory on Windows 2003. In addition to that we have a native-mode Active Directory domain on Windows 2003. We were planning on merging a couple of NT4 domains into 1 native mode Active Directory domain, but plans have

3.0.20 usermap script execution
I have created a mapusers.bash script (listed below) for mapping Active Directory handles to unix logins. This script is currently working as documented. I would like some insight into how and when this script gets called. I assumed that upon establishing each samba connection, after the active directory handle gets authenticated with the domain controller it passes the domain\handle to this

nmbd and port 135 / dce rpc WINS
These are already open. I'm pretty sure that NT4/2003 PDC's make a DCE/RPC over TCP connection to pull down the <1b> entries from the wins server. I have done packet captures on test NT4 wins server to see how PDC's pull their domain lists, and I see the port 135 three way handshake, which then gets switched over to a tcp port 1028 which is the dce/rpc requests and responses.

winbindd_idmap.tdb
Hello list, I want to migrate from samba 3.0.14a to 3.0.2* . Now my question ; is it possible to keep the winbindd_idmap.tdb with new installation, because keeping that relations is a __MUST__ , otherwise i would have to run some unix scripts over the user directories to fix uids and gids of them. Thanks in advance for your hints. kind regards martin schreiber

Hello! I'm running samba 3.0.20 on Solaris as PDC. But I cannot add Windows Server 2003 clients to the domain. After authenticating as root, I get the following error message: "The parameter is incorrect." in Windows. The result is that the computer isn't added to the domain. :( Any ideas? Thanks. The samba log says: [2005/12/05 15:54:37, 2]

"%S" doesn't parse to share name.
Hi, Our smb.conf specifies share level logging with: log file = /var/log/samba/%S.log This results in a log file named "%S.log". I would expect something like sharename.log. Can anyone explain this? I have not been able to Google any answers. Samba 3.0.10-1.4e.2 as PDC on RedHat ELS4 with Windows XP2 clients %m.log gives "machinename.log" as expected. %m.%S.log gives
