AD member server setup with winbind idmap_rid - users prompted fo r password
Question:
How can I stop users from being prompted for a password?
Is secrets.tdb needed?
Do you think my problems are caused by having a different workgroup to
realm?
Problems:
I've gone over samba-by-example 7.3.4.1 on setting up idmap_rid with winbind
quite a few times now. I also checked what JHT has said in chapter 12. All
of it seems correct. However I get loads of this before the

Winbind idmap_rid - no members in "domain users" .....
On my ADS member server it doesn't show any members of GUESTSHIRE\domain
users:x:5513: using getent group
Is this normal behavior? If not any ideas how do I fix it?
Out of curiosity I shutdown winbind and samba, deleted all *.tdb files (
except secrets) and restarted them. Same thing happens. There are no users
in there... But if I check in AD users and computers my users are all
members

Debian AD member server setup with winbind idmap_rid - us ers prompted for password - solved

This was when they accessed their own homes share. I found that when the
user accessed other shares everything was fine. So this morning I finally
realized that it had to be my home shares stanza. It *seems* that valid
users = %S is not enough that it has to be

Can't you join 2016 to the 2003 domain, demote 2003, and raise the
functional levels?
Or join a Samba AD DC and continue without MS. ;-)

Embed R, and provide a function to user scripts
Hello,
I'm not sure how to go about this. Suppose I have a function
SEXP boo(SEXP x){
//do something
}
Also, I have an executable which embeds R in itself. I would like to provide
a R function to user code to call that calls 'boo' e.g
##user supplied expression that is given to me
x<-1
boo(x)
One way is to create a library with function boo that performs .Call to boo,
but is

Finding the entry point function in a LLVM IR
Thank You David and Mats for the reply,
The reason I need to know that main is the entry point is as follows :
I have a dead code elimination pass that removes the function call for boo.
boo was initially called from the main function , but since the return in
the main function has no dependency on boo, boo function call is removed.
Now I want to remove the function definition of the functions

Samba 3.x auth. and idmap_rid on RedHat AS 2.1
I try to use idmap_rid with Samba/Winbind authentication for Windows on Active Directory. The authentication works fine but I'm unable to compile the idmap_rid module.
Here is my configuration options:
./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc/samba \
--localstatedir=/var/samba --with-ldap --with-ads \
--with-smbmount --with-pam --with-pam_smbpass \
--with-winbind

creating library
Hi,
I'm able to create a library with R CMD INSTALL cmd, etc... I'm just
wondering.. is it possible that when the user says library(boo), it runs
some initialization code?
I have a dumb R file that is:
print(2)
boo <- function(x){}
when I R CMD INSTALL the library, I'm able to see 2 in my unix console..
but when I do
library(boo)
in R afterwards.. I don't see

Samba RPMs for RedHat/FC and idmap_rid
As discussed previously on this list, Samba RPMs for
Fedora Core do not include idmap_rid support. This is
also true for older RedHat distributions. SuSE on the
other hand, seems to have been patching in idmap_rid
support since 3.0.5 or so; and with trusted domain
support, to boot. Harrumph.
I've been able to rebuild samba srpms on FC2 and
RedHat 8 by patching the samba distributed rpms,

Compiling Samba on AIX 5.3 with idmap_rid fails
Hi everyone,
I'm trying to use idmap_rid with Samba 3.0.21c on AIX 5.3. So far, I've
not been successful.
I've followed the method from
http://us5.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/AIX/README to compile Samba,
but added "--with-static-modules=idmap_rid". Also, I used IBM's compiler
and not gcc.
The compilation fails as follows:

samba and idmap_rid panic
Sigh,
Someday i will get samba to work on aix. Now I rebuild samba because I
discovered that you needed to request it to build idmap_rid.so or it
will not make it. After the rebuild I moved over the smb.conf again and
net ads joined again. When I try to start samba, however, it panics
with this information:

How to support idmap_rid on Fedora Core 3?- RESOLVED
Resolved: I was not able to compile then make install and have work so I
ended up using the FC3 packages and adding only the freshly compiled
idmap_rid module.
Thanks for the help.

idmap_rid: could not convert sid to uid
Hello,
I am trying (again) to get samba+winbind working, with the idmap_rid
backend. I am using a freshly installed samba server and client machine,
with samba-3.0.13. Most things seem to work, but when I try to get
the uid's for the samba users, I run into problems.

CentOS 4.2 + idmap_rid
Do you know if it is possible to use the idmap_rid feature in Centos and
Winbind/Samba (v. 3.0.10)?
When I try to start it with idmap_rid enabled, I get this in my log...

IDMAP_RID with Winbind works for groups but not users
Hi,
I've setup samba 3.4.7 to use idmap_rid as per the documentation:
idmap backend = rid:DOMAIN=500-100000000
idmap gid = 500-100000000
imap uid = 500-100000000
It seems to work for groups:
wbinfo --group-info="domain admins"

Unable to access server with IDMAP_RID in place - samba 3.2.0
Greetings,
I have a number of samba servers that will need to become Active
Directory (AD) member servers. The testing I've done so far with
default mapping has worked just fine.
I configured a server to be an AD member server, joined it to AD but was
unable to access it from a client PC - I get prompted for authentication
on the client which shouldn't be happening. The log file

Manual UID & GID mapping with Active Directory
Greetings,
I'm looking how I can set manually the GID & UID of my Active Directory
users into Samba & Winbind.
I have several server linux using Samba and they are linked to Active
Directory to get users & groups. On all my Linux system I did a "net
join ads". Also I set this option in all smb.conf:
idmap uid = 20000-30000
idmap gid =
