strange locks
Hi, I added these lines to smb.conf: kernel op locks = false op locks = false strict locking = true so I could see some locks from the unix level. It worked sorta, I see the locks for big files (but not the locks I was expecting), but for little files it shows nothing: # ./lock_list /opt/testsambashare/mattest.doc # ./lock_list /opt/testsambashare/contents.doc 0 22086 W

rsync fails to sync files
Hi, I'm seeing a weird problem with rsync 2.6.9 protocol version 29 on Debian Sarge. When copying a file from one location to another between two Debian boxes, if destination includes a file with same size and name, rsync fails to see that they are not exactly the same file. The situation originates from copying a file to a place which is periodically rsynced onwards, and the rsync

Making Linux and domain users the same
I have a set of Linux boxes with (nearly) working Samba configurations. Windows users can get in and work with shares. My one problem is that the local user "joe" is not the same as the domain user that logs into Samba. And that means that users cannot access their own home directories, unless I relax the Linux permissions. This is not surprising, given the way Samba was configured

User executional bit set when creating/modifying file on linux server from linux client
Whenever I create or modify a file on my cifs-mount, be it by `echo "test" >> file` or from bash, the file mode is changed with u+x. However, that does not happen with touch, and usign chmod u-x works as it should. This is very annoying... It is a linux samba server running samba 3.0.24. I know it's not the latest, and if you know there was a bug fixed that can solve my

Samba on freebsd - permissions issue

[test2] path = /data/test2 read only = No create mask = 0777 guest ok = Yes The file permission on the host directory was set to 2777 and nobody:nobody. When a windows machine writes to the dir the permissions look fine. For example,

windows permissions
G'day All, After searching the archive I am no closer to achieving what I want. I've seen lots of posts that suggest this can be achieved but the methods used don't work for me. I won't pretend I understand linux or samba permissions because every time I think I've got it, I turn out to be wrong. So here goes. Let's say I have 3 users & 2 groups. each group has
