Windows group file permission problem
CentOS 3.5

Security ADS
I can't get windows group permissions on shares to work except for 'domain users'. The windows group I am trying to use is Unix.Samba. This group does not exist on the linux box. It resolves correctly using getent group and when I chgrp files to unix.samba, ls shows the group ownership as Unix.Samba. getent group shows this group with the

wbinfo -r returns only 16 groups (sometimes)
Something we noticed after upgrading from 3.0.14a to 3.0.20 and still a
problem with 3.0.23c on Solaris 9 Sparc. Windows 2003 server running
Active Directory. The examples below are all with 3.0.23c downloaded
last week and compiled from source using gcc 3.3.something. 3.0.14a

Winbind + Win2003 ADS + Trusted Domain Issue
Hello all,
I am having an issue that I need help with and have been searching the
web high and low for a solution. It involvs using winbind to
authenticate Linux systems against a 2003 Active Directiry domain with a
one-way trust. Here is the lay out.
Domain "ABC" is the resource domain where the servers are located. Domain
"XYZ" is the domain that the primary user accounts

InterDomain Trust Issue; Active directory domain does not return users and groups
I have created a two way Interdomain Trust between a Samba 3.21 Domain and a Windows 2003 Server Domain. I am able to log into the Active Directory domain with my Samba users and I am able to access shares set up in the AD Domain. However, when I attempt to log into the samba domain with a user from the Windows 2003 domain, I get an error saying the username/password is not correct. From the

I've set up winbindd to authenticate local users against our active

idmap uid allocation problem
Hi, we've had a machine happily authenticating to an ADS domain for
about a year now, and it's recently stopped working (possibly due to
changes in the domain or a samba upgrade, unfortunately I'm not sure).
We're using an ldap idmap backend running on the local machine.
Now though, new domain users can't log in. Running "wbinfo -i newuser"
returns an error.

Pre-3.023d-Bug in ACL-handling reappears in 3.026a

# wbinfo -Y S-1-5-13
Could not convert sid S-1-5-13 to gid
(S-1-5-11 are the Authenticated Users, S-1-5-13 are the Terminal Server
Users.)
This bug was finally solved in release 3.023d.
Now it is back again.
How can I get this working?
I'm using idmap/tdb - would another idmap-module solve this issue?

Problem with ADS idmap backend
I'm running Samba 3.0.28a on a CentOS 3.9 box as a member of an AD
domain whose PDC is a W2k3 server (Standard x64 R2 SP2).
Using wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g I can see domain users and groups from
the CentOS box, but getent (passwd|group) fails to display them. The
nsswitch is setup correctly, as far as I can tell. When I tail -f the
samba log file during a getent query, I see that winbindd is

idmap_ad and multiple domians
Has anyone else gotten samba functioning with idmap_ad and multiple domains?
In our environment we have a domain with two child domains. There is one child
domain for students, and another for faculty staff. Our servers are joined to
the student domain, but need to be able to enumerate users in the staff domain.

Samba PDC, LDAP, IDMAP backend not working
Please help. I've been searching for days, trying nearly everything I can find that seems relevant, but I can't get this working.
I am able to create users, login to Windows systems joined to the SAMBA domain as those users, but filesystem ACLs on Windows Domain Member Servers do not work which I suspect is due to my IDMAP OU is empty.

Also seeing high winbindd CPU usage
I think somebody had a similar problem (also on Solaris), but that
thread seemed to die.
I've compiled (with Sun Studio cc) and installed samba-3.2.1 on a
Solaris 10 x64 box, which is a member of a (Windows Server 2003
controlled) domain. I previously had samba 3.0.28a running on the
same machine without any problems. Now winbindd is eating up all of
the CPU (on the CPU it's assigned

Confused about what I am seeing with domain names
I could not get wbinfo -g/u to work and was seeing a bunch of errors
related to to not being able to enumerate groups. I saw somebody use
idmap backend = ad and added this since I have been struggling to get ad
working (still not working). Now, when I run wbinfo -g/-u, I am getting
groups and users, but the domain it shows is different than what I
expected. My domain I was using for workgroup

could not read attribute 'msSFU30UidNumber'
Hi,
I'm using samba 3.0.23c, and having a bit of trouble getting it to play nice
with my active directory. I'm using Windows Small Business Server 2003 with
the SFU 3.5 NIS server/schema extensions installed. I have samba configured
to use ad as the idmap backend, and sfu for nss info.
When running getent passwd, only a few active directory users show up, and I

Problems resolving most users with winbind and AD/SFU
Hello all,
I'm having a problem with Winbind resolving some users from AD on a W2KSP4
server running SFU 3.5 [8.0.1969.1]. All users and groups in the AD domain
have been assigned UIDs and GIDs via SFU. The Linux fileserver is running
CentOS 5.3 with Samba 3.0.33-3.7.el5. The fileserver has been joined to the
domain using authconfig with proper modifications made to nsswitch and pam.

Winbind issue
All,
After upgrading to samba 3.0.30 on gentoo amd64 because of my recent
best friend CVE-2008-1105
My winbind daemon is 'hanging up', and refusing to respond to pings
after a few minutes of activity.
Wbinfo -u, getent passwd all work successfully, then after a bit wbinfo
-p just tells me winbind dies.
I have 3.0.30/winbind on another machine, also amd64 that is working....
So
