AD domain with SDMS issues & LDAP Idmap backend
Hi,
I have been trying to join a Samba Domain member server to the AD and use
LDAP for IDMAP storage. I have run into many strange issues and I was hoping
someone can please take time to clarify things for me. I have read quite a
bit (I own both the Samba books by Terpstra) and done a lot of Google
searching. I think part of my problem is the unusual setup I have, as all
the examples in the

Linux/AD authentication stops working after ~5 minutes
I'm trying to do something fairly simple: login to a Linux box using a
Windows AD-based account. I've followed the various recipes available
online for configuring Linux (winbind, PAM, etc.) to this send, and I've
got it working ... almost.
I'm able to authenticate an AD-based user immediately after bringing up
the Linux box, but a short time later (roughly 5 minutes, but it

Inclusion of libnss_wins in vendor distros?
This might be a stupid question, but I ask only because I can't think of
a good reason...
Why do so many vendors' builds of Samba not include libnss_wins, the
WINS/NetBIOS name resolution library? I find that it is very helpful for
my Linux/Samba servers to be able to resolve hostnames by WINS. It also
seems to improve domain browsing performance dramatically to have the
library present

samba start: not working in /etc/init.d/smb ???
Hi everybody,
This may be a stupid question, but I really don't get it. When I restart my
Linux box (occasionnaly / rarely), samba is not working from my Windows
station. I can't connect to the samba drive. If I do /etc/init.d/smb
restart, it doesn't work either.
After many unsuccessfull problem determination, I found that there is two
ways to correct this:
1- kill smbd -D process

SVN/CVS-like share for Samba users?
I am looking for some solution, working with Samba preferably, which
would allow multiple users to work on one document.
This means that if a user makes a change to the document, a previous
version of that document is saved somewhere else.
For example, user A opens a document (rw - read/write, ro - read-only
document):
rw \\server\share\document.txt
User makes some changes, and saves it to

NSS/PAM LDAP Config
Ok, I've been literally throwing things in my effort to fix this.
Please help me from damaging something valueable! :)
I've installed Samba 3.0.22 and OpenLDAP etc.
I've used the IDEALX scripts to create the LDAP tree etc.
Everything goes swimmingly until I try to check and see if NSS/PAM is
working right.
I use the following command as shown in SBE to check NSS/PAM working.

CentOS 4.4

LDAP users/groups not showing up with nis, pam, & ldap
I am trying to configure NIS, PAM, & LDAP on a CentOS 6.2 host. I've
previously installed a similar configuration on RHEL4, but CentOS now
uses nss-pam-ldapd and nslcd instead of nss_ldap, so the configurations
are a little different.
Currently, local users and groups are showing up but not LDAP users.
When I do a /getent passwd/ and/getent group/ I don't get LDAP users.

Problem with User and Group Ownership listing
I am installing smb 3.5 on a CentOS 6.2 host using smbldap-tools. I've
previously installed a similar configuration on RHEL4 using smb 3.0 but
CentOS now uses nss-pam-ldapd and nslcd instead of nss_ldap, so the
configurations cannot be moved straight across.
When I do a listing of a share directory that should have user and group
ownership determined by LDAP, I get the uidNumbers and

Needs to run smbldap-useradd as non-root user
Hello,
The abstract is :
How to run smbldap-useradd (and others) with a non-root user, knowing
that giving Samba privileges to the user's account is enough.
Now are details :
My setup is FreeBSD-8, samba35, nss_ldap, smbldap-tools... And NO pam_ldap.
I am creating a webservice which must run smbldap-tools scripts.
Everything is running on a FreeBSD-8, and running fine by root. However,

Building Dovecot with OpenLDAP break PAM LDAP on Solaris
Hi all,
I'm back with more data on a problem Iposted about one month ago.
To sum it up, my Solaris 10 box has local accounts as well as LDAP ones
via PAM. They work well as-is, with no special configuratio, for WU IMAP
(using the ?other? entry in pam.conf.
When I tried a self-built Dovecot, all accounts were authenticated
without problem. Then I tried the Blastwave version, same release,

pam_winbind vs. pam_ldap ?
Greetings, All!
I'm using Samba 3.6 and OpenLDAP currently.
The core configuration has been done eons ago, and I'm not quite sure it is
actual any more. I see a number of PAM-related errors every time the system
boot up. One concerning me is
