nsswitch not working for ldap
I am following the instruction in Samba by Example chapter 6 on a RHEL4 server. Everything seems OK until I get to 6.3.5.7, which says to do the following:- root# getent passwd | grep Adminstrator which returns nothing, indicating that the nsswitch (nss_ldap libary) is not working. I cannot find anything in any of the log files to give my a clue nor any hints on how to debug this. Any

Samba with LDAP - conflict with pam_ldap?
Hi, I'm using Samba 2.2.4 with LDAP support (OpenLDAP 2.0.23), and with pam_ldap included in the rpm nss_ldap 1.86 from Redhat (I'm on Linux Redhat 7.2). All these things are working well (I use the same object SambaAcount under PosixAccount in order to authenticate all these things), but a problem appears when I'm trying to list all the accounts and groups from my Win2000

[Resolved] Found a way of allowing pam_ldap users (with pam_groupdn or pam_check_host_attr restrictions), AND allowing local root authentication, without pam_unix.so taking presense due to getpwent() returns ldap-users
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I've been trying to get LDAP ssh authentication to work for a while, and I found a bug (http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=bin/116150) in pam_unix.so, that breaks support for ldap-group/host-restrictions the ldap-way. I saw numerous emails about pam_groupdn-ldap-restrictions on the mailinglists dating back to 2001, but no resolution

Samba 3 + LDAP on SuSE - how (missing /etc/pam.d/system-auth)
Hello, I'm trying to configure Samba to work with SuSE 9.1. I followed The Linux Samba-OpenLDAP Howto (Revision: 1.6 ) from http://samba.idealx.org/smbldap-howto.en.html - but I'm stuck - in SuSE there is no /etc/pam.d/system-auth. Should I just add this file (I doubt it), or put these values into another files (which ones)? auth required /lib/security/pam_env.so auth

Samba, Passwd, LDAP auth
Hi, I have searched all over and I am at a deep loss. I have Openldap setup and it works fine holding users and is searchable, etc. I have samba setup to auth via LDAP and it works. I can NOT for the life of me get system password stuff to work. The strange thing is, that my "testuser" can telnet to the computer and login and can login with samba fine. I can not ssh into the

ssh + ldap issues
In an effort to install cfengine (which requires 0.96b + of ssl), we've had to recompile all sorts of related packages on our RedHat 6.2 boxes. In addition, we're trying to implement an LDAP directory. Basically the source RPMS for RedHat 7.3 were installed and compiled on a 6.2 box to get this all to work. We're running into the following problem on the 6.2 boxes after having

Every user in LDAP queried when one user logs on.
Hi I have configured a machine to authenticate against LDAP. When I log onto the box using the newly created user I see a LDAP search request for every user that exist in the directory. If I have only 20 users even a 100 that is not a problem but when I start going to 10000 users I start getting some weird errors and timeouts because of the time it takes to download the data to the client. Please help me from damaging something valueable! :) I've installed Samba 3.0.22 and OpenLDAP etc. I've used the IDEALX scripts to create the LDAP tree etc. Everything goes swimmingly until I try to check and see if NSS/PAM is working right. I use the following command as shown in SBE to check NSS/PAM working. getent

LDAP users/groups not showing up with nis, pam, & ldap
I am trying to configure NIS, PAM, & LDAP on a CentOS 6.2 host. I've previously installed a similar configuration on RHEL4, but CentOS now uses nss-pam-ldapd and nslcd instead of nss_ldap, so the configurations are a little different. Currently, local users and groups are showing up but not LDAP users. When I do a /getent passwd/ and/getent group/ I don't get LDAP users. When I do

I followed instructions of http://www.idealx.org/prj/samba/smbldap-howto.en.html but it seems like I'm having problems on the pam_ldap layer: when I go to step 4.5
