Slow samba access from Mac OS X 10.2.6
Hi, I'm running samba 2.2.3a-12.3 on Debian Linux (i686). The network is 100Mbit switched and I can ftp data off the server at 9Mb/sec. If I use either the Finder GUI under Mac OS X or mount manually via Terminal, and then try to copy a file I get less than 64k/sec! I don't ever remember having much better speeds than this while using the various versions of Mac OS X. Windows

Samba password problem when in domain
Hi, In our network, I have set up a samba server in a workgroup. We're now migrating to a domain, using SBS 2003. When I locally login on XP and access the samba server, it works just fine. But, when I login on the domain and then try to access the same samba box, it doesn't accept my password. The username for my samba account and account on the domain are the same. Also, the name of

win 98, freeze on login/shutdown
G'day, I'm helping with an outback community technology centre, six workstations and a Linux server running Samba. The six workstations occasionally freeze during shutdown or login. I'm wondering how to diagnose this, as I have very little experience with Windows. Is this a Samba problem? Symptom: clients freeze sometimes, mouse pointer won't move, Control/Alt/Delete gives no

Samba mapped drive to XP on logon
Hi- I'm having a recurring problem with Windows XP and a Samba share on logon. More specifically, I have a Samba (v 3.0.24 on Debian Etch) share with share permissions (not a domain) mapped to a drive in Windows XP Pro. Whenever someone logs onto an XP Pro computer in the network the drive isn't there. Here's an example: Say there's a document on the shared drive and a

windows 2000 drive connection issue
I've got a 2.2.3a-12 (Debian Stable) Samba server running on a small network with 98, 2000, and XP machines. The server is a domain controller and the computers are members of the domain. We are using login scripts to map the drives. I have one computer that is having a weird issue. When the user first logs on, you can go to My Computer and see the drive fine. Double-clicking on the drive

3.0.1-2 failed to decode PDU
Hi All, come acrross a curious issue with 3.0.1-2 from Debian unstable. Looks like a bug of sorts to me... Have a PDC configured and basically working well, apart from single recurrent issue that keeps popping up in the logs below, related to failure or breaking of remote procedure calls. The pipes more often break when using the UNC path as opposed to IP. couldn't find service netlogon

Domain Member Server Problem
I have a problem with a Member Server on Samba 3.0.28a running on Ubuntu Heady. Both systems were recently upgraded using Ubuntu's automated upgrade. It's also possible I broke a working configuration by accident. The shares on the Member server are visible on the XP clients and some users can authenticate properly. At least one user on one XP desktop cannot. The shares are visible

Can't get "getent passwd" to display winbind users
Hi, I am running Samba 3.0.1 on a Debian/Sid machine. I have installed winbind to access the AD of the local network, which I want to use for UNIX logons. wbinfo -u shows all the users of the AD, but "getent passwd" only shows the contents of the file /etc/passwd. I have been following the instruction for winbind (Chapter 21) in the Samba-HOWTO-Collection. Any comments would be

Samba 3.0 - User Changing His/Her Passwords
Hello all! We recently upgraded from Samba 2.2.3 to Samba 2.999+3.0.alpha20-3 on debian 3.0. Ever since then users are unable to change their own passwords on their W2k machine. What happens is when they try to change it a process (passwd) gets stuck with the users name. The only way to fix this is to kill the passwd process the user started. I haven't changed the "passwd chat"
