cupsaddsmb
Hi all, I'm trying to add printers with cupsaddsmb on Samba 3.0.20 (Mandrake Linux) with an LDAP backend. I've followed the howto on the samba page and have the error: result was WERR_INVALID_PRINTER_NAME generated when I run it. So far I've Googled for the solution but nothing listed has helped. The full set of errors are as follows: Cupsaddsmb returns:

Weird share problem with Samba
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi All, I've been running Samba 2.2.1a for a year + with no problems whatsoever. It ran on Mandrake 8.2 ans was set up to share the users home directories amd a single shared folder called public. Recently, we upgraded to mandrake 9.2 with Samba 2.2.8a and used the same config file that we'd backed up from the earlier installation. The

LDAP PDC migration gone wrong.
Hi All, I have a problem following the migration of my PDC's backend from tdbsam to LDAP. We started out with a PDC called SMB1 which ran with a tdbsam backend. I used pdbedit to convert it to LDAP and built a new server onto which the LDIF file was loaded. Samba was then setup to use the LDAP server as a backend. So far so good, Samba runs against LDAP and I was able to add 60 new XP

Windows XP joining Samba/LDAP domain problem (User cannot be found) [SOLVED]
To anyone out there who's having problems joining their Samba/LDAP domain with XP here's a solution. The main symptom is that the XP join domain gui returns a "user cannot be found" error. The setup that I experienced this on was configured and managed using the smbldap-tools package. Usual disclaimer applies if it fails to work, you are responsible for backing up your

High CPU load on smiod
Hi all, I'm running Samba 3.0.13 on Mandrake 10.2 (LE2005) and have mounted the shares on an NT4 server to rsync the files over to the Samba box. The only thing is that Linux sees the dual Xeons in the server as four CPUs and the first core on CPU1 hits 100% while the files are copying over. Every so often, CPU1, core 2 takes over (at 100%) for a short period and then core 1 goes back to

Mutli-Homed Subnetting - Advice please
Hi All, I have a problem with a growing network. I inherited the network at about 200 machines and it's now reached 300 at which point the cracks are starting to show. I have no budget to speak of but need to up the bandwitdh so I'm looking at sticking an extra Gigabit NIC into my PDC and splitting the network into two subnets. I have two kinds of data, static and dynamic. Static files

Home directory weirdness after upgrade from 3.0.33 to 3.5.6
Hi List, I've just updated from Samba 3.0.33 to 3.5.6 on my Centos 5.5 PDC and am having problems accessing home directories. To allow a backout option I set up a new server, put 3.0.33 on it, joined it to the domain and rsynced the home directories over with the flags necessary to maintain the permissions and user/group ownership. This worked and after completion I upgraded the new

Suggestions for Theora
Hi, I have some suggestions for Theora:1) Theora should have a feature like adobe flash does that enables direct end user to end user peering which decreases a server's bandwidth usage and cost. Read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_Time_Media_Flow_Protocol Theora should go one step further and support file sharing. 2) Theora should have a plugin for the safari web browser that runs

wins hook handling only own names
Hi all, It might be an easy problem, but I haven't found anything in the docs... I have a Samba3 PDC. I have wins hook set to a DNS update script. The script works fine, I tested it. My problem is that according to the scripts logging, samba only calls it for its own refresh. It only sends lines like this every 20 minutes: refresh SAMBA 20 259200 192.168.1.253 No client updates reach

pop before smtp with 'exact' and 'exim4'
Hello, I just thought I would write this in case its useful to anyone. I've used dovecot for a while, as its so easy to set up, its fast and it and just "works". I recently wanted to be able to send via my server after pop3s authentication. I'm also running debian (testing) which utilises exim4 by default. I found no information about how to do it with this combination of

smb.conf 3.0.7 -> 3.0.23c domain master problem
Hi all, We have an old 3.0.7 samba running as PDC. As we have problems with XP64 clients accessing the domain, I compiled a 3.0.23c and copied the smb.conf. Some of the client work well with the new Samba, but most of them do not. Was there any relevant change in the smb.conf part between the two versions? Thanks Bgs

mark incoming traffic
