Samba PDC + OpenLDAP + Samba BDC
Hello everyone,
the time for me to use a OpenLDAP server is getting closer ( :( yikes..I'm
still scared sorta) ,
I currently have a Samba PDC with tdbsam with 50 users goes fine, our
company will grow (doing our best)
in this year by a minimum of 25-30 computers, and I've stuided the TOSHARG ,
and it says that for every
50 computer a bdc is suggested.
The questions :

a better smbstatus for monitoring samba ?
Hello,
does anyone know if there is a tool in existence that can monitor samba shares like smbstatus
but is much more advanced (and runs in console) , I mean a tool that has menues, some search
options, and things sorted out nice. A Samba realtime monitor would be the best thing with lots
of details and lots of options.
I tried Swat, but that aint really a solution to watch who is connected

samba-3.0.9-1.3E.2
I wouldn't normally hurry you guys about a package release, (because you're
doing an excellent job), but any eta on the above?
samba-3.0.9-1.3E.1 is in the current repos and that install seriously fubar'd my
ADS + winbind setup. samba-3.0.9-1.3E.2 (which requires krb5-libs-1.2.7-31)
fixes the problem.
NB, samba-3.0.7-1.3E.1 (the old version) was fine for me, its only this

samba-3.0.9-1.3E.3 - Winbind loses connection to active directory
Hi People,
samba-3.0.9-1.3E.3 joined to AD domain, running winbind on RHEL 3
The Problem - Every now and then samba seems to 'lose' the domain - i.e.
wbinfo -u/g will not list users/groups but after a couple of goes it
does eventually list them and then generally it's all ok. While this is
happening users are prompted for a username/password to access the box
(normally just lets

CentOS 3.4 + Samba 3.0.9-1.3E.2, winbind problems
Hi all,
Thus far, I have managed to get wbinfo -[u|g] to display users/group
correctly, and getent passwd/group works. However, wbinfo -t fails to
work, giving me this error:
[root@billing samba]# wbinfo -t
checking the trust secret via RPC calls failed
error code was NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED (0xc0000022)
Could not check secret
Further, this seems to be related to a problem with wbinfo -a:

tdbsam to ldapsam
System: Sid ; Samba 3.0.0 ; using tdbsam ; no problems
Goal: Would like to move password, group, and user data to ldap backend.
Problem: I've read Samba-HOWTO-Collection.pdf and don't see exactly how
to do this as the Howto addresses primarily the password backend.
What I've done so far:
1) Created the openldap bdb and the dc=domain,dc=com base and the admin
with password.
2) Run

Practical guide to migrate from tdbsam to ldapsam
Hello people!
I'd like to know about a practical guide which helps to migrate users
from a perfect working Samba PDC running with tdbsam backend to a new
backend to LDAP. Does "pdbedit -i xxx -e xxx" make all the job? My
network is growing and I need a directory service to help find people so
I'd like to see a LDAP server running well with Samba without rebuild my

create smbpasswd/tdbsam from ldapsam/LDAP query?
As some of you may know, I'm trying to set up Samba BDC on a disk- and fan-less tiny mipsel_CPU router running OpenWRT distribution.
I already managed to compile Samba 3.0.21a and OpenLDAP 2.3.18 for it, and they seem to work fine.
The problem is, this tiny distribution for routers doesn't seem to have anything like Name Service Switch (NSS), and relies solely on /etc/passwd

tdbsam and variables
Dear List Members
We are trying to setup samba PDC with tdbsam backend.
First question: When "Home Directory" is not set in tdbsam does samba
just use the setting of "logon home" in smb.conf? And when it's set
does it ignore the smb.conf setting?
Second question: Does tdbsam allow the inclusion of variables such as
%a, %u, %H, etc.?
We were looking at the "Big

Problem with "ldapsam:trusted = yes"
Hi,
I updated from 3.0.11 to 3.0.12 and tried the new ldapsam:trusted
parameter. Alas smbd dies silently a second after startup.
With debug level 2 I can't see any reason in the logfile. My smb.conf is

samba migration from PDC tdbsam to BDC tdbsam
Hello
According to my post "samba migration to another distro llinux" on samba
lists I would like to make migration of samba from one machine to
another.
I can't find information how to transfer accounts, policies, users, domain
SID and other options from PDC (tdbsam backend)(current server) to BDC
(tdbsam backend)future server.
I found some info but its about migration from

migrating from Samba3 with tdbsam to samba4 AD server?
What's the best path to do this?
I currently have a SAMBA3 domain controller using tdbsam and would
like to migrate to Samba4 as an AD controller. I assume that this will
require loading my existing user database into ldap.
What's the best path for this? Should I look for a samba3 to samba4
migration, continuing to use tdbsam in samba4, and then convert to
ldap, or convert my existing

Simple Samba PDC - tdbsam limitations?
Hi,
I'm setting up a new Samba server, and am debating between LDAP
(complex, and I'm not that familiar with it) and tdbsam for the password
backend...
I understand the physical limitations (single PDC, no replication, etc),
which is fine, since this is a small office - about 50 workstations,
possibly growing to as many as 75, but no more than that.
What are the limitations of the

errors:

No builtin nor plugin backend for tdbsam found
I've tried deleting the tdb's and rejoining the domain but nothing.
Any ideas anyone?

tdbsam Question
Dumb question time; I can't find the answer in the Samba-3 or HOWTO
docs: how do you add users to the passdb.tdb (tdbsam's db)? Is
pdbedit the only way? I ask because the Chapt 3 Samba-3 example has
passdb = tdbsam in the samba config file, but the instructions for
adding users are to use useradd and smbpasswd, which leave passdb.tdb
empty (except for root--I have no idea how that

PDC/Samba 3.0.6/tdbsam
I recently converted my Samba PDC from ldapsam to tdbsam as I was
having too many problems with the ldap backend failing after a power
outages. I now have a few questions regarding tdbsam:
1. Is there any GUI user administration tool that I can use in
conjunction with a tdbsam backend? Usrmgr seems to function as user
root on the domain, but does not seem very reliable. I'm looking for

Re-doing tdbsam
Running Samba 3.x with tdbsam. Its a small nework of 4
Windwos XP machines. Having a little trouble adding the
machines to the domain. pdbedit shows duplication
machines names and such. Since its such a small number of
machines, want to just start over with a fresh tdbsam as
it seems faster then trying to clean it up. Can we just
delete the existing tdbsam? Stop and restart Samba and
