3.0.27a, ubuntu server7.10 auth issues
I have upgraded to version 3.0.27a on ubuntu 7.10 server and now the
getent command wont display the active directory users, but wbinfo will.
It worked fine with 3.0.26a and I have not changed my configuration.
I do however have this in my winbind log:
[2007/12/04 13:39:01, 0] nsswitch/winbindd.c:request_len_recv(544)

3.0.23b domain member not accessible
I portupgraded my samba domain server and domain member to 3.0.23b from
3.0.23 and found that the domain member was not accessible from
workstations. The error message:
\\HOSTNAME is not accessible.
There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request.
In the log.winbindd of the domain member, I found:

Samba with ADS
Environment: Sun Solaris 9 sparc
Software: Samba-3.3.3, KRB5-1.6.3, OpenLDAP-2.4.11
Problem:
Am trying to create shares with Samba so that users can map to folders on this server using Active Directory. I am successful in creating a Kerberos ticket; I can join the domain; and wbinfo -u and -g give me users in the AD. However, getent passwd only gives me a list of users on the server and not in the

bwinfo -u works getent passwd doesn't
Hi,
I have Samba 3.0.21b running on Solaris 10 with ADS authentication.
I get the following in log.winbindd when I do "getent passwd" but wbinfo -u
lists all the users.
Does anyone know why and how to fix it?
Thanks,
Vahid.

3.0.20a winbind getent problem...
Hi all,
I have successfully setup squid on 1 host to authenticate users against win2k AD using Samba+Winbind.
On a second host I now wish to do the same and have installed from source using the same options, but cannot get any getent calls to work with winbind, even though wbinfo -t shows the trust being OK, wbinfo -g shows domain groups and wbinfo -i shows domain users.
This is level 10 debug

Sid S-0-0 is not in a valid format
Hi all,
I'm trying to get winbind going on a different PC to the one I've
already got working, but I can't figure out why winbind won't work on
this other PC. It mostly works (wbinfo works, net ads testjoin reports
OK) but "getent passwd" doesn't return anything. The winbind log
reports this:

Confused about what I am seeing with domain names
I could not get wbinfo -g/u to work and was seeing a bunch of errors
related to to not being able to enumerate groups. I saw somebody use
idmap backend = ad and added this since I have been struggling to get ad
working (still not working). Now, when I run wbinfo -g/-u, I am getting
groups and users, but the domain it shows is different than what I
expected. My domain I was using for workgroup

I got almost the same problem authenticating to a Samba 3.0.20 server
in a Windows 2003 Domain in mixed mode (updated from a Windows 2000 Domain).

The group name could not be found
Hey guys,
It's me again.
Today I moved our NAS from our old 2000 domain to a new domain presided
over by two Samba 4.7.2 domain controllers.
After the move I cant access the NAS at all from my Windows 7 test pc. I
keep getting an error that "The group name could not be found"
I am at the end of my troubleshooting skills.
I also moved the NAS' samba from sernet-samba 4.1 to

Configuring idmap for a Samba 3.2.4 AD member server
I'm hoping somebody can point me to the right documentation for
setting up the following scenario.
Earlier this year I had Samba 3.0.28a working as a member server of a
(Windows Server 2003) AD domain, using Solaris 10 and Heimdal
Kerberos. I was able to log into the server using AD accounts, getent
passwd worked, etc. I was using "secruity=ads" with these settings

Problem with number of groups of AD User (token size ?)
Hi all
On a CentOS 5.4 system with Samba 3.0.33 (member server of an AD domain in
2003 native mode) I have the problem that certain users can't use the shares
(can't logon), while others can.
I *think* this is related to the fact that those users unable to connect are
member of a huge number of groups (100+).
We know from experience that this is a problem in Windows itsself (need to

Problem with Universal Groups
Everyone,
With many thank to Jerry, my cross domain authentication is now
working. This leads to a new problem. I cannot get samba to
authenticate a remote domain user in a Universal group to authenticate

Samba vs ADS problems
Hello Everyone
This samba server was working perfectly without problems.
Running as an Domain member vs Win2K ADS
One day it stopped working? All that happened 5 days ago was a change of
the administrator/root password
We adjusted the wbinfo ?set-auth-user towards the new password. But
nothing have worked since.

Winbindd and Domain local groups
Hi,
I have been trying to use Winbindd in SLES 11 SP3 (Samba version 3.6.3-17.25.1) to fetch AD (Windows 2008 R2) identities into the Linux box and currently running into some problem w.r.t domain local groups and thought I could get some help here..
I have a two domain setup, in which DOMAIN1 is the parent domain and DOMAIN2 is the child domain. I have 2 users DOMAIN1\user1, DOMAIN2\user2 and

winbind + samba limits with large AD?
Hi,
a few months ago I tried to setup samba + winbind (debian etch,
amd64, samba 3.0.24). I followed the howto and got the authentication
running. But I had not much success with winbind. I disabled the
user/group enumeration, but this didn't change it. A simple 'ls -l' in
a directory with 10-20 files took minutes to return the list and most
of the time winbindd just stopped working

ADS mode - differences between W2K and 2003?
I'm having a bizarre problem doing authentication via winbind against a
Windows 2003 server.
Aside from changing the hostname information, etc. as appropriate for
krb5.conf and smb.conf, the configuration I'm using is one that I copied from
another server that is successfully authenticating against ads.
The two systems I'm having trouble with are running Suse Linux Enterprise
