VFS ACL modules - question to developers
Hi!
I have few question to developers of VFS ACL modules (acl_tdb and acl_xattr):
1. Do you plan to extend quantity of entries in acl_tdb (now I can write 22 user ACLs plus CREATOR OWNER, CREATOR GROUP, domain users and everyone)
2. Do you plan to fix few ACLs eg. Traverse folder / Execute file (to traverse I need to enable additional permission List folder / read data to traverse through

gdm won't start
I'm trying to set up a new CentOS 4.2 desktop, and gdm refuses to
start. It blanks the screen, displays the swirling blue circle mouse
cursor that appears to be an hourglass equivalent, then drops back to
the console window. It repeats this several times then displays the
following error:
The display server has been shut down about 6 times in the last 90
seconds, it is likely that something

acl and subfolder
hello,
I'm using dovecot 2.0.16 and i would like to use acl for subfolder.
The file dovecot-acl is well written in both folder test and the
subfolder test/Test :
cat /home/user2/Maildir/.test.Test/dovecot-acl
user=user1 ilrws
cat /home/user2/Maildir/.test/dovecot-acl
user=user1 ilprws
When user1 want to list, the folder test is well shown, but not the
subfolder test/Test. This is the

ACL plugin: k permission and sub-subfolders
Hi,
I'm trying to disallow the creating of subfolders for some special folder
for all users. Using ACL plugin for this seems to work at first glance but
is not a full solution or is buggy as it allows the creation of
sub-subfolders.
I'm using the following ACL and namespace separator is "/":
$ cat folder
owner lrwstie
Note: no "k" permission
("k" =

The permissions are apparently set incorrectly on the vnc SRPM in the

mirror it.
Thanks.

msdfs root problems even after a reboot?
We upgraded from Samba 3.0.24 to 3.0.25a over the weekend and rebooted
all of our clients afterwards. Since then, some of our clients are
randomly getting the following error:
"Configuration information could not be read from the domain
controller, either because the machine is unavailable, or access has
been denied."
Unmapping and mapping the network drive fixes the problem, but one

samba acl - able to change permissions that contradict user security setting
Dear friends, I am having following issue on my samba device . Please help me on this.
1) created share "test" given read and write access to the user "admin" and read only access to user "user1".
2) from my windows PC logged into the samba share "test " with "admin" user . created subfolder in that "test_subfolder".

Permissions incorrectly ordered on Windows after disabling inheritance
Hi everyone,
I've noticed a problem with Debian wheezy + samba 3.6.6 configured with
acl_xattr in my configuration. The following test sequence causes
Windows Explorer to report incorrectly ordered permission entries:
1) Map a share as with "admin" user credentials to a drive letter
on a Windows client
2) Create a folder at the root of the share "rootfolder"
3) Create a

doveadm import with subfolder oddity
This has got to be something weird in my config. And the standard
disclaimer of '"happy to post doveconf -n, but wanted to see if this is
normal first" :)
Background: Ubuntu Xenial, running 2.2.36. Mailbox type is mdbox and I've
got a period separator in my inbox namespace:

template homedir confusion
Hi,
I have set up Samba 3.0.0 with ADS integration. It works fine, with a
workaround for a small oddity.
I use template homedirs like this:
template homedir = /home/%D/%U
On a soon-to-be-retired server running 3.0a19, I have a directory LOCAL
(as in LOCAL.DOMAIN.NAME) containing the homedirs - this works as
expected from the output of "getent passwd", which shows the homedirs of

Behavior of acl_xattr:ignore system acls = yes on a share
Hi folks,
It seems that the setting acl_xattr:ignore system acls = yes reduces
Windows compatibility when defined for a share. In all attempts I have
used Windows tools (except editing smb.conf)
Assume there is a share, where the files and folders in the share root
should at least be readable by anybody having access to the share. For
the sake of simplicity the following permissions apply on

shared mailbox subfolder permissions
Hi all,
when I create a subfolder in a public mailbox the dovecot-shared file is
copied for the newly created subfolder and all mails get the owner, group
and permissions from the file. Unfortunately the cur, new and tmp folders
only get the permissions from the file but owner and group are set
according to the creator. This effectivly makes the folder private to the
creator.
Is this the

question dovecot Inheritance global acl vs userfolder acl
Hi Timo
my tests resulted in
inheritance is given if a userfolder has set some acl to its new created
subfolder , which is nice
if some userfolder has its acl from global acl
there is no inheritance to its new created subfolders,
that subfolders will always created with full owner rights
i am not really sure if its a good idea
to have inheritance from global acl and
if its hackabel what is your

why client changing ACL of all subfolder and files that have inherit when change ACL of a folder.
Hi,
We just noticed one thing in our system.
We have a samba share, in that we have folder and files all have "inherit
permissions" set on.
When we change the windows permission on a top level folder(with windows
explorer for example), the client is actually sending requests to change
ACL of each subfolder and files under it, which we are not expecting since
they should be inheriting

sk98lin Gigabit Ethernet
Is anyone using sk98lin Gigabit Ethernet adapters under CentOS 4.x?
The version of the driver that ships with CentOS 4.x kernels was too
old to support the onboard NICs on some Intel server boards that we
recently got, so we installed a newer driver using DKMS. However,
we're having problems finding a stable driver to use: the first
version that we tried (7.09) gave a kernel panic when I ran
