Creating domain list takes too long
Hello -- We have a LAN that consists of a samba domain controller and a bunch of PCs. The samba version is 3.0.20b and the PCs are running Windows XP (sp2). The Windows clients can join the domain without any problem, however, a message saying "Please wait while the domain list is created" shows up right after the first time after the clients join the domain and reboot. VLAN issue
Hi -- The environment we have is as follows, Domain controller: samba 3.0.14a running Solaris 9/X86 Authentication: openldap 2.2.14 Clients: Windows XP with SP2 The issue I met: If both clients and Samba server are on the same physical switch (also same subnet), the clients can join the domain and users can log into their domain accounts without any problem. However, if the clients

migrate existing Unix password to sambapassword
Hello -- Our existing Unix system has more than 500 users. The system currently uses OpenLDAP to authenticate users. We just added dozens of PCs running Windows to the network. We are going to set up the existing Unix server as a samba PDC server such that the users can log onto either their Unix account or Windows account. It seems a good idea to allow the users have the same password for

Webalizer displays wrong year
I just run webalizer manually on an Apache log, like I have done many times before. Some new statistics were created, but for "August 2006" instead of "August 2008". I cannot figure why! Because of my mistake, the webalizer statistics for this site have not been updated since February. Now I tried to update them for the first time - with the results I described above. The

Bizarre - How did windows user setfacl for a file??
Listmates, In 8 years, since 2.02 (I think), I have never seen this behavior out of samba. I run a stand-alone server with WinXP clients. Somehow a legal assistant created (not intentionally mind you) files and directories with ACL attributes set: -rwxrwx---+ 1 cyndy ochiltree 21504 2008-10-28 16:48 AUTHORIZATION - employment.doc* -rwxrwx---+ 1 cyndy ochiltree 12804 2008-10-28 16:48

Hello friends: I hope you can help me with this I'm struggling a year ago After breaking my head migrating a server with Samba Samba 2.1 to 4.1 all stay perfect and functional. Samba4 DC/AD documents created in redirected folders with bogus UID
My up-front apologies if this topic has been covered. This is my first time using this list and I don't know how to search for existing topics yet ... I installed Samba4 on Linux Slackware 64 version 14.1 about 6 months ago. I set up redirected folders for the Windows 7 Workstation users. All worked fine until recently. SAMBA Problem - Users take ownership
Hi, I have a problem with my Samba/WinBIND implementation. In folders shared by multiple people the last one to access and modify a file takes ownership of the file and changes the permissions so other users cannot make changes to the same file: [root@atlas PLANNING RECORDS]# cd REGIONAL\ 1\ AIRLINE\ DOCS/ [root@atlas REGIONAL 1 AIRLINE DOCS]# ls -al total 1232 drwxrws---+ 8 root

AD + winbindd(8): group permissions being ignored ? WTF ?
Hi all, I am successfully authenticating "FreeBSD 7.0-CURRENT #1: Wed Jul 25 17:31:15 WST 2007" against AD. Users can log in succesfully with home directories being served via amd(8) and NFS. However, I have discovered a potential "show-stopper" that will force me to abort this mission :( The problem -~-~-~-~-~- In a nutshell: Simple group permissions set with chown(1) are
