winbind: wbinfo -g sees "domain users", getent group does not
I have configured winbind on a Linux file server, connecting to a
Samba PDC. When I run wbinfo -g, I can see the group "domain users".
On the other hand, when I run getent group, I do not see this group.
Apart from a few other groups, all groups are visibile in both wbinfo
-g and getent group.
When running for the first time wbinfo -u, getent passwd and wbinfo
-g, I got the results

wbinfo problems and documentation questions
Hi all,
I have a samba pdc running 3.0.20 + the patches on
http://hostopia.samba.org/samba/patches running RHEL4 on an x86_64 platform. I
have configured it to use an ldapsam backend per
http://us2.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/2000users.html
Since there is not much in the way of testing listed in the "2000users" section
I used the tests listed under the making users happy

Winbind trouble when on the DC
I have a situation where I want to do some authentication via ntlm_auth on my
DC. I've tested this on my test box (a domain member) and it works perfectly.
On domain member -
tor:~ # /usr/bin/ntlm_auth --username=adam --domain=BACKBONE --password=********
NT_STATUS_OK: Success (0x0)
On domain controller -
littleboy:~ # /usr/bin/ntlm_auth --username=adam --domain=BACKBONE

Samba 3.0.21b winbind crash
I'm using Samba 3.0.21b on SuSE 9.3 Pro (x86) with the binary RPMs from samba.org/suse.com (3.0.21b-1.1.2-SUSE-SL9.3) on a Domain Member Server in ADS mode with winbind against W2K3 SP1 AD servers and idmap uids/gids stored in a central OpenLDAP directory.
Unfortunately, winbind gives me a hard time and reproducibly dies with a PANIC on a "wbinfo -g", although I think I've

Winbind in Win2003 ADS: wbinfo -u works, wbinfo -g does not
With samba 3.0.24 (Debian Etch packages) I joined a Windows 2003 ADS

FW: getent & winbindd on FreeBSD 5.4
I posted my original post to FreeBSD-questions@freebsd.org and since then
have had a running dialog with another poster. It now seems I am having
trouble with the NSSWITCH function. I am now reporting back to the Samba
list in hopes someone can help me out at this point.
Can anyone help me out here?

Greetings,
Here is what I have built samba on:

Winbindd startup kerberos fail
I'm trying to learn about the interactions between SAMBA and Win2k
DCs.??The eventual goal is to have a Win2k server with ADS working with
a FreeBSD SAMBA server.??I've?used?the?setup?from
http://oslabs.mikro-net.com/fbsd_samba.html and many other articles as
the basis for what I've done so far. Winbind seems to work and I can

winbind error - Conversion error: Illegal multibyte sequence(æ~S^\^H)
Hi there
I hope that you understand by English. I'm a Rooky and don't know Samba very well. I installed the newest version 3.0.10 on my SuSE Linux 7.3 machine and it works very well. I make User- and Passwort-Requests with Samba (winbind) for the Squid-Proxy. Now always work's well but I get the following error message from log.winbind:

1) yesterday my winbindd crashed (s. log.crash) (status: "dead")
2) restarted winbind and saw that some files have no owner (just the
uidNumber)
3) getent passwd, wbinfo -u shows me all users (authenticating agains
Windows PDC)
4) i'm using nsswitch (passwd: files winbind, group: files winbind)
e.g. (getent passwd)

CentOS 5.3 samba: getent does not return data from the active directory (ads)
CentOS 5.3 getent does not return data from the active directory (ads)
I have installed and configured kerberos and samba so that the
server can be a member of an existing Active Directory (AD). Correct
configuration of kerbos was verified using kinit and klist. The samba
configuration was verified by using "smbclient -k -L server". winbind
was verified by using "wbinfo

Samba 3.0 beta 3 issues
Hi there,
I'm using Samba 3.0 beta 3 on RH 9 (connecting to a Windows 2000 domain,
as a member server) and I'm having trouble keeping samba running
reliably. At random times it seems to stop recognising names from the
domain. Restarting winbind fixes the problem, but then it occurs
randomly again, usually once or twice a day. At least once it has fixed
itself after being broken overnight

Using idmap_rid backend, cannot browse home directory from XP
Samba version is 3.0.10 on Gentoo linux. I am trying
to use idmap_rid backend in a Windows AD environment,
the Linux PC acting only as a domain member. I am
using idmap_rid because I need UID/GID predictability.
I can log in to console correctly, and it shows the
right user and the "Domain Users" as the group.
When I use default winbind TDB, I can browse the home
directory from an XP

Winbind syslog errors and Domain Local Groups
Hello all.
I'm relatively new to Samba, and haven't been able to track down a
solution to this particular problem.
I use Samba/Winbind to authenticate FreeBSD machines against a
Windows 2003 Active Directory. That all works fine. The problem is
that groups in the AD of type "Security Group - Domain Local" are
causing winbindd a lot of grief. Every time the winbindd daemon is

3.0.0, winbind issues
I just upgraded our system here to 3.0.0 from RC4 last night. As usual I
built an RPM from the source RPM after adding --with-acl-support to the
specfile. I found that unlike previous RCs, RPM would not upgrade to
3.0.0 using -Fvh. In the end I removed RC4 and then installed 3.0.0 in
the normal way (backing up and restoring /etc/samba and
/var/cache/samba).
However, the real issue is that

getent passwd fails inside freebsd jail using samba 3.4.14
I've been messing around with running samba 3.4.14 inside a freebsd jail over
the last couple of days, and am running into an odd problem where wbinfo -u
and wbinfo -g succeed, but getent passwd fails (insofar that it shows only
local users, but none of the domain users).
Here's my smb.conf:
