Workstation xxxx$: no account in domain
hi, I've a problem with adding workstations to my samba/ldap pdc - if i add the workstation with win2000 to the pdc then the workstation gets registered in ldap with the following entry: (i am using smbldap-useradd.pl -w -d /dev/null -g computers -c 'Computer Account' -s /bin/false %u) which seems to me to be ok, but the workstation tells me that it couldn't get attached to the

Machine Login
Hi all, In my system, samba (3.0.34) is configured as PDC with an LDAP backend and has some user and machine accounts, and it all works fine. But recently I've found out that if I remove one machine account from the LDAP server user logins into the domain from that machine are still possible, even if the machine login verification fails: "... Machine accounts by migrating from smbpasswd to ldapsam
Hi all, I'm wondering what about machine accounts (WinXP) by migrating from Samba 2.2.8 with authentication backend /etc/smbpasswd to Samba 3.0.4 with ldapsam. Is it possible just to take NT hash from smbpasswd and paste it to ldap record as sambaNTPassword? I'm not able to login from machine vs3 to new domain. My configuration files and log files follow. The Samba-SID is the same

Machine account found and not found in 3.0.2
Brad, I found your posting of 2/20/2004 with the subject line of "upgraded to 3.0.2 -> funkyness in machine accounts" while investigating a similar problem. I upgraded to 3.0.2 last week from 3.0.0. I have a system which I just added to the domain successfully. However, when I attempt to log a domain user onto that machine, I get this error: The system cannot log you on to

Buffalo Terastation with 3.0.23d PDC and LDAP backend?
I have my system properly running as a PDC now, but I'm having trouble getting one of the machines here to join the domain. This system is a Buffalo Terastation Pro. For this system I have to create the machine trust account manually. The domain access fails as follows: [2007/03/06 17:51:44, 2] lib/smbldap.c:smbldap_open_connection(788) smbldap_open_connection: connection opened

upgraded to 3.0.2 -> funkyness in machine accounts
My old technique was to 1) remove all machine accounts from ldap 2) reimage all machines 3) create all the machine accounts with smbldap-adduser -w 4) switch all machines to domain mode that does not work anymore... the machine accounts exist in ldap but i get this internally contradictory info in the logs [2004/02/20 02:29:52, 2] passdb/pdb_ldap.c:init_sam_from_ldap(462)

LINUX BASED CLIENT UNABLE TO JOIN LINUX PDC with LDAP
Hello. I have some problems, with a new samba configuration. I want to setup a SAMBA PDC with ldap authentification, following an HOWTO found on the web. I used this howto with success on OPENSUSE 10.1 with a X86 processor and I have used it a lot of time (windows 2000 clients). Now I use OPENSUSE 11.3. And I test this new configuration with two new PC running X64 processor running linux. PDC

Upgrade/migrate, lost workstation trusts
> So, net getsambasid and net getlocalsid both return the same value, which matches the SID in the backend LDAP database. So, maybe not a SID problem after all. Here's a log snippet from the server after a logon attempt from the workstation in question, with the failed workstation authentication. I'm not sure how to further debug "credentials check failed": [2016/02/28

Samba + LDAP = Misery
I have been working on this for weeks now and feel like I am at a dead-end. I am using Samba 3.0 (Head) and OpenLDAP (2.0) and smbldap-tools 0.7 and cannot join either a Linux machine or Windows 2000 machine to the domain. If any of you have some ideas they would be much appreciated. Highlights: - I have a root defined (UID and GID of 0). - Trying to join the domain will successfully add my

Add Workstation to Domain - valid local system user?
Hi! I'm running Samba 2.2.7a as Domain Controller, and when I try to add a workstation to the domain, I get always the following logentry (and the operation fails): [2002/12/20 14:30:21, 0] passdb/pdb_ldap.c:pdb_getsampwnam(859) LDAP search "(&(uid=vmware-w2ks_)(objectclass=sambaAccount))" returned 0 entries. machine account not accessible
Hi, I'm setting up a PDC, but joining the clients (w2k, nt4) fails. I use this in smb.conf: add user script = add user script = /usr/sbin/useradd -d /dev/null -g 100 -s /bin/false -M %u Just using the script I get the error: "no account in domain" under linux. Useradd itself works but it seems to fail for samba. All clients originally used a nt4 PDC. Now this nt4 PDC must be

Adding a machine acount
Hi, I migrated from an MS NT Domain to a samba3 domain some time back. I forgot about a couple of machines and am trying to add them. These are Buffalo NAS workstations so are basically *nix machines with a web interface. I have not had to add any machines to the domain from the samba PDC before. This is what I've done. I tried to add the machine using it's web interface but it failed and

Samba after upgrade+migration, Win7 workstation trusts lost
Hello list - I am not sure my messages are getting out to the list, so I will attempt in this message to summarize the problems I am having that have been the subject of a few other posts. I recently upgraded from a command-line Slackware installation to Debian Jessie. As part of that exercise, Samba was upgraded from 3.5.x to 4.1.17. My upgrade method was probably not idea: I recursively

machine account isn't created in LDAP database
I have bought SuSE Enterprise Server 10 from Novell. I have configured LDAP & Samba as PDC for my local LAN. Now when I try to join my Windows clients machines using the Administrator as username, I get the error " user not found". Infact, when I see the LDAP database, the machine account is added. But still the clients do net get added to the Domain. Now If I add Suse Desktop Linux
