smbclient lookup fails when querying local machine
Debian Sarge, Samba 2.2.12 (legacy install), openLDAP 2.2.17, connecting to a PDC running Samba 2.2.8a. The machine in question failed DIAGNOSIS.txt step 3.
I've got a really odd issue -- a Samba server that can "smbclient -L" everyone but itself. Samba still serves shares and PDC authentication works fine, but this failure is annoying, and as such, must be fixed. :)

Registry on server
Hi, all,
I can connect to the 'registry' of our Samba server using regedt32;
I can't however change/add entries even though I start the program as
Domain Admin.
I get the message "Cannot create key. Error writing to the registry"
Does anybody have any idea what could cause this ?
Or is this expected behaviour
I have also found references on the net that one can add

Samba 2.0.3 and NT/9x
Dear all,
I recently upgraded to Samba 2.0.3 and read the doc files about NT
machines because I cannot connect to the Samba server.
In the WinNT.txt file there is the following proposal:
[ --- Start of pasted text --- ]
The following registry entry change will re-enable clear text password
handling:
Run regedt32.exe and locate the hive key entry:

Encrypted passwords for Windows 2000
Does anyone Know the procedure for Windows 2000 workstation, in order to not

What I needed is something similar to the transcription I make below that

Get "some read error" on calls to worker
I''m running the latest from svn (rev 285). I''ve been having a problem
launching a process repeatedly. What happens is that I get a debug
message "some read error" and then the worker refuses to run again.
I''ve stripped my worker down to just doing a puts and it still happens.
Like the other threads I want to launch my workers as needed, however I

read (and edit?) registry files on Linux
Hello,
Is there a way in Linux to read Windows registry files?
I have only ssh access to the Linux/Samba server, and would like to be able
to check settings in user profiles (in their ntuser.dat files). Best would
be if I could even edit settings in there.
For now, it seems the only thing I can do is scp the files to a Windows
machine, and manually load the hives in regedt32. Very

Getting remote registry information.
Hey, all. A couple weeks ago, I asked about getting remote registry
information, and someone helpfully offered up "net rpc registry [blah]". And
it does a decent job, but I'm yet to find the right permutation that would give
me a whole branch of the hierarchy (akin to doing an export in regedit). For
what I'm looking to do, that would be really, truly handy. Most seem to save

Anything like with_scope for ActionController?
There are areas of my application that "want" to use a url structure
like
domain/<human_readable_param>/<Module>/<Controller>/<Action>/<Id>
Please note that the human readable parameter I need to inject is NOT
related to the <id> being used by the action/controller pair. It''s
identifying a container object whose contains are operated

[LLVMdev] Getting rid of the DoesntAccessMemoryFns and OnlyReadsMemoryFns tables
The DoesntAccessMemoryFns and OnlyReadsMemoryFns tables are used
by alias analysis to specify which standard functions don't access
memory or only read memory. However gcc now automatically supplies
this information to us. I checked on my x86 linux box what gcc gives
for the functions listed in those tables. While gcc mostly agrees
with them, there are the following differences (using

Win2K cannot retrieve print driver, XP is okay
Hi all,
I'm having trouble persuading Windows 2000 to find the print driver on
a CUPS/Samba 3.0.20 server. The whole system has been working
perfectly with Windows XP clients for the last couple of months, but we
have a few Windows 2000 PCs/servers that need to have the printers
installed, and when double-clicking on a shared printer the Win2K
machines are saying that the print server

What causes mails to get striked-over only, and not deleted?
I have tried with this sieve config:
imapsieve_mailbox1_name = Sent
imapsieve_mailbox1_causes = COPY APPEND
imapsieve_mailbox1_after = file:/etc/dovecot/sieve/sent.sieve
and this sieve file (sent.sieve):
discard;
This should clearly cause the mail to be deleted right?
But whats happen, is that the mail is not deleted, its just marked for
deletion (gets a strike-through in Microsoft

Deleting Roaming Profiles
Hello,
If you don?t want (Who wants ?) to save roaming profiles under
Winnt\Profiles, than you have to change, or create (if not exist) a
registry string:
Run regedt32.exe and locate the key entry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Microsoft\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Add (or change) the following string:
DeleteRoamingCache
Standard value is 0, it has to be 1
All the Best.

Write access doesn't grant delete access?!
Hi all,
I've got these permissions set on a folder:
$ getfacl htdocs
# file: htdocs
# owner: root
# group: users

group::rwx
group:DOMAIN\134htdocs_access:rwx
mask::rwx
other::r-x
The idea being that any users in the "htdocs_access" group in Active
Directory will have full access to this "htdocs" folder, without
interfering with the real owner/group of the

Thousands of TIME_WAIT connections with CUPS?
Hi all,
For some reason I'm getting thousands of hanging TCP connections on our
server which appear to be caused by Samba sending print jobs to CUPS (or
I assume so as nothing else on the machine uses CUPS.)
These connections are starting to cause problems (programs monitoring
connections start breaking because it takes many seconds for them to
scan through the full list) so if anyone has

Folder Redirection with NT4 Domains
Hi,
I'd like to hear off-list from anyone who is currently successfully using
folder redirection with an NT4 domain controller.
If you are doing this, please would help me to understand your secret.
There are two ways I know of that should work, however I have received
feedback from separate sources that claim problems with both of these
methods.
I would like to include in the new book
