DNS problem?
I'm trying to join an XP SP2 PC called testpc to a test environment. Its network settings are statically set. IP address is 10.8.3.209. I have a PDC called gomer.mdah.state.ms.us w/ samba 3.0.26a and IP address is 10.8.3.37. On test PC I right click on my computer, properties, computer name, change from workgroup WORKGROUP to domain ADAMSTEST. But I get the error: Note: This information

Can't add machines to domain after Debian-Update
Guten Tag Samba-List, after updating my Linux-Server from Debian Etch to Lenny, some of my workstations (W2kSP4) couln't log into the domain. I removed the machines from the domain, changed the name, created a new machine-account, but I still can't add the machine to the domain. My /etc/smb.conf (see below the logfile) is unchanged since Debian Etch. Perhaps someone

Domain Admin group problem
Hi, I've got an interesting problem with my Samba 3.0.2a on Debian Woody. I've created the Domain Admins group as I could read in the documentation, and I added a user to this group called "star". If I login to a Windows 2000 workstation, which is a member of the domain, I can login, but I don't have administrator rights on this workstation. The Domain Admins group is a

Unified logons with winbind and tdbsam backend
I am trying to setup unified logons to my VPN users. My goal is to get rid of chap.secrets file and use winbind to authenticate against tdbsam password backend located in the PDC (Fedora Core 1) running with Samba 3.0.21pre1. I have tried with older Samba versions without success. Using winbind should allow password changes from the Windows XP Pro -client using CTRL+ALT+DEL. Smb.conf,

Domain logons w/ LDAP backend
Hi, I have multiple Samba servers working very well using the tdbsam backend. The number of servers is becoming harder to manage now so I began testing an LDAP-based Samba server. Everything works great except when a workstation tries to login to the domain... All users are able to login just fine when accessing network shares. Workstation are able to join the domain. But upon reboot,

Tutorial : Debian, Xen and CLUSTER / GFS Support
Hello there! I made Debian, Xen 2.0 and CLUSTER/GFS work together :). I wrote this little tutorial to help you setup yours. Any feedback is welcome, except comments about W3C validation of my code :p Note that I am talking about compiling CLUSTER with your XEN kernel, I don''t explain how to setup a working cluster. You can find how to setup those in official RedHat docs. You will see,

samba 4 ad member - idmap = ad for machine accounts
Thank everyone for input, It seems that using RID is the way to go. I just tried a few things: 1) - made group, assigned unix GID - added test PC to this group and set this group as "primary group" - added manually to test PC account "uidnumber" on server with samba getent passwd MYDOMAIN\\testpc$ returns nicely testpc$ with UID and GID numbers as set in

Different logon.bats
Hi, I run Samba with ldapsam backend. Now I want to use different logon scripts for different types of users like that: user 1: sambaLogonScript: logon1.bat user 2: sambaLogonScript: logon2.bat Problem is whatever value I insert for "sambaLogonScript" the script is simply not executed upon login. (I also tried "\\pdc\netlogon\scripts \logonX.bat" but that doesn't work

cached logons
Hi. I can't do cached logons in our new samba server. I had a dead crashed W2k server quickly replaced by samba-3. That meant create a new domain, restore backups and add all the PCs to the domain. It was impossible to ressurrect the old MS server. Anyway I'm facing a problem about cached logons. There is no way to make it work. I've been reading all the entries in the mailing list

Samba/smbpasswd/LDAP question

tdbsam.
The documentation says "As a general guide, the Samba Team does not recommend using the tdbsam backend for sites that have 250 or more users". Since we moved default passbd backend to tdbsam, does that statements still holds true. As an FYI, I am using Samba-3.2.4, idmap_rid with tdbsam as backend for about 3 years with 2000 users on member server configuration authenticating AD 2003.

Samba3-beta1 as a PDC and using tdbsam as passdb backend it takes the home-directory info from /etc/passwd
I didn't get any answers so I try again: I am using tdbsam as passdb backand. I have added root user with pdbedit. The machine trust account was added on the fly. I have added the user with pdbedit. I have created the user in /etc/passwd. When the user logs in from a W2k and mounts the home-directory I noticed that Samba didn't take the home-directory information from tdbsam, it
