Mac OS X clients not binding to a Samba+LDAP PDC
Hi there !
This is my first post and I really would like to have this stuff working ...
if not, I should go to Win2k3 server .... please help me to avoid it !!!!
I've been trying to integrate Mac OS X (10.3) clients to my Samba server
through the Active Directory Plugin with no success. This PDC is currently
working for 90 PC's with XP SP2.
My server is well configured from the DNS (or

Any downsides to using MS Services for Unix NIS server?
I have both an AD domain and an existing NIS setup, and would like
to merge the accounts. It would seem from reading the help files
that installing Services for Unix on my domain controllers and using
the AD-integrated NIS server would work well. I wouldn't need to use
winbind, and I would have not only consistent but predictable ID
mapping, ie I can ensure that INTERNAL\jhatfield maps to UID

Problems with Samba 3.0.20b and OS X 10.4.3 Clients
Hi, i have the Samba Server 3.0.20b running Debian 3.1 Sarge and clients
with Mac Os X 10.4.3, after update to 10.4.3 version while the clients copy
via Finder to Samba volume, after copy the files hide in directory.
The others clients running Mac Os X 10.4.3, dont see the files but the Linux
Workstations and Windows Workstaions dont present problems.
Please some idea for the problem.
Thanks.

roaming profiles, not roaming
using samba v3 windows xp sp2 clients.
i have profiles working to some extent, that is when i create a new user
on the server, when that user logs in, the profile gets downloaded from
the server from the /etc/netlogon/default user directory.
any customizations that the user makes work just fine and get saved to the

User and Groups Problem with ADS (Win2003) and Solaris 10
Hi,
I got samba 2.0.30b running on a Sparc machine with Solaris 10.
I installed
Kerberos 1.4.2
Openldap stable version 20051018
To compile Samba 2.0.30b with ADS
Looks like Kerberos works
kinit Administrator@MYDOMAIN.COM <mailto:Administrator@MYDOMAIN.COM> ==> works
klist ==> shows ticket
I added the server to the domain

winbind auth using ADS with domain trusts
In reading the documentation I havn't found anything that covers the use of
winbindd when authenticating against one domain (lets call it 'A') while
also allowing users from a domain trusted by A (lets call it 'B').
My linux box is a member server in domain A which is a new domain we are
working on transitioning to. We are not renaming because 2k server doesn't
have that

AD domain with SDMS issues & LDAP Idmap backend
Hi,
I have been trying to join a Samba Domain member server to the AD and use
LDAP for IDMAP storage. I have run into many strange issues and I was hoping
someone can please take time to clarify things for me. I have read quite a
bit (I own both the Samba books by Terpstra) and done a lot of Google
searching. I think part of my problem is the unusual setup I have, as all
the examples in the

--compare-dest option
I'm translating rsync.1, and i'm having some problems with the
--compare-dest option description, actually i dont understand the part
which describes the usefulness of this option, it says :
This is useful for doing transfers to a new destination while leaving
existing files intact, and then doing a flash-cutover when all
files have been successfully transferred (for

dNSTombstoned
Hello you all,
with the new samba version out that fixes some problems with dns
scavenging I have decided to try this feature.
I was specifically interested for our reverse zone (PTR records)
We have one zone for VPN clients 8.0.10.in-addr.arpa. I activated the
feature in the smb.conf as well as in the Windows DNS manager.
Entries are deleted (not visible in DNS manager) after a while.
You can

Renaming The Default Branch
Hi Everyone,
Many tech communities, including GitHub <https://github.com/github/renaming>
and Git <https://sfconservancy.org/news/2020/jun/23/gitbranchname/>, have
moved away from term “master branch” and replaced it with “main branch” in
an
effort to remove unnecessary references to slavery and use more inclusive
terms. This was also discussed on the LLVM-dev mailing list

moving netbios alias between machines
I would like to move a netbios alias (e.g. 'testname') from one machine
to another. Seems like an easy enough thing to do: remove it from
machine 'a', and add it to machine 'b'.
I've done this, but all's not well in netbios land. My clients still
want to talk to the old machine, and do. Do I simply have to be more
patient? How patient? Is there anything that

Question about replication
Good morning,
I?m looking at dovecot replication for the first time for a particular use case: The VM running dovecot is currently in a public cloud, and I want to move it on-premises, so I want to replicate all mail data from the older instance to the new (then cutover internal DNS) (and in the process update to newer features on the internal instance such as mdbox vs Maildir).
However, the

I can confirm, that tailor converts LLVM CVS with all history preserved
to mercurial repository without any visible troubles.

Time to set a coding style for Syslinux?
Given the number of people that are starting to be involved in Syslinux
development, I wanted to start a discussion about a common coding style,
for C code in particular.
Currently, a lot of the code in Syslinux is written in different styles,
partly because my own style has changed over the years.
There are pretty much two alternatives that I think are realistic:
a) Linux kernel coding style:

User Manager Tools
I loaded the NT4 Domain Manager tools and tried to use UserMgr to add
some users. The add users sections of the menu are grayed out and I
cannot do the deed. I've tried a variety of things. The machine was a
member of the domain, I was logged in a administrator, which seemed to
map as root in Samba, but still all I could do is look, not touch.
Any ideas what I did wrong this time?

Voice calls sent to fax extension
I have a situation that has repeated itself a few times. Someone calls
into Asterisk and is connected with a voice extension. At some point
during the call, the log shows "chan_zap.c: DTMF digit: f on Zap/2-1".
At this point, the call is redirected to receive a fax and the Asterisk
voice extension is hung up. The users report that there were no
noticable tones heard just before the

Any work-around for very large number of files yet?
Yes, I've read the FAQ, just hoping for a boon...
I'm in the process of relocating a large amount of data from one nfs server
to another (Network Appliance filers). The process I've been using is to
nfs mount both source and destination to a server (solaris8) and simply use
rsync -a /source/ /dest . It works great except for the few that have > 10

IE 9 not sending digest auth info
I migrated our internal wiki server last week, and some IE users
aren't able to authenticate.
The service is hosted by Apache using Digest authentication. It
migrated from Apache 2.2.9 (Debian 5) to Apache 2.2.15 (CentOS 6). The
internal hostname for the wiki server is a DNS CNAME that was
repointed from one host to another during the cutover.
In a normal session,
