Hi All,
I have a Samba PDC on my Suse 9.3 machine serving up to 25 clients
with a OpenLdap backend. The samba user password also *sync's with the
LDAP Password and the Local User password*. All Samba users also have a
local user account which is used by IMAP Server Accounts & Cyrus
Authentication on the same machine. (So, One Password to email and samba

I'm sorry for asking a question which has been asked so many times
before, but I can't seem to find the answer...
How do I get to access my home directory on a Linux server running
Samba from a Windows XP client?
I'm getting "NT MD4 password check failed" in the log file even though
the Windows client is listed in hosts.equiv. More information
below...

Two PDC's conflict
Hi All,
I am currently running two PDC's with different domain names on
the same network. But after a day of smooth running I am starting to
have problems with the users accessing the network resources with an
error message. As far I understand there must not be such conflict with
the Samba PDC's with different domain names on the same subnet. Can any
one suggest what might

Problem with build and check
I am getting failure of build and check, for an Rd file that has a long argument list.
Guess diagnosis: a quoted string beyond a certain point in the argument list is fatal.
Example: Use the function below, create an Rd file for it with prompt(). Move the .Rd
file to the man directory (no need to edit it) and try building
dart.control <- function(server=c("production",

Replicated Failover Domain Controller and file server using LDAP
Hi All
thought I'd post my results from following your notes when trying to replicate my Samba PDC onto a Samba BDC as seen here
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/1.0._Configuring_Samba
everything seemed to work as described until I got into the 'Initialization LDAP Database' and preloading the edited "preload-differentialdesign.ldif" file, kept getting a failure from

machine add error to samba PDC
Hi All,
I have setup my samba as a PDC and testparm gives me the right
result, but when I am trying to add my XP client to SAMBA I receive an
error as "Logon failure: bad username or password" or "Username could
not be found". I am using root as the domain administrator and have
added root account using smbpasswd and can see it using pdbedit -Lv. I
can logon successfully

Installation error with R-devel
I have a local library with functions that interrogates an institution-specific web API,
so is not of interest to anyone outside of Mayo. For some reason the R CMD INSTALL
command fails. See below:
Build the library, then install it.

R CMD build failure
I have a local library 'dart' that imports "httr". It has routines that access central
patient data such as birth date, so it is heavily used locally but of no interest to
anyone else.
The httr library (and 300 others) are in a shared directory, referenced by everyone in the
biostatistics group via adding this location to the .libPaths in their default .Rprofile.

problem joining computer to domain
I cannot join my WinXP workstation computers to the Samba domain. Using
the Computer Name / Change on the XP computer gives me an error saying
that the username or password is incorrect - except very occasionally when
it works although I do nothing different!
I have noticed that on when it works there is a machine record set up in
LDAP with Samba data as follows:-

Domain logon problem

We are running Samba as a PDC on SUSE 9.3 and everything was
running fine since we started it. All of a sudden I have started to have
problems with the domain logon, nothing has changed since friday when I
know it was working fine without any problems. The users are just unable
to logon to the domain and getting an error message "The domain

Samba share access error Fedora core 5
Hi,
I have samba PDC running successfully on my server with 3
physical volumes running Fedora Core 5.
Physical Volume 1 - OS installation
Physical Volume 2 - All Company file shares
Physical Volume 3 - Backup of files.
I am facing a weird problem or may be somewhat unique to samba or
Fedora, that I cannot access shares that are mounted and shared by

Count number of zeros in a collumn
I have a matrix 700x2000 which is sampled in each cycle from another matrix
788x2000 with the numbers 0,1 and 9
There is one specific collumn of this matrix, dart[,1977], that usually,
after the samplimg procedure has only 1 and 9 (because the zero frequency in
this collumn is low).
However, when this happens, I want to include an IF conditional in my code.
so basically what i wanted to do was to

How to build Samba4 using static linked libraries
Hi All:
I am building the torture/smbtorture for samba-4.0.0alpha17. After build, I am running the test in another environment.
I not only need to copy the binary smbtorture, I also need to copy the shared libraries. This is HUGE inconvenient for us.
Could somebody tell me how to build the binary using static linked libraries?
Thanks very much

Samba3 by example problems
Hi All,
I am going through a setup of a test samba3 box with rh9 with my self rolled
copy of 3.0.10. I have removed the old rpm version of samba. I compiled
3.0.10 with all defaults except for the install prefix which I set
to /usr/local/samba3.
I followed the steps given in Chap 6 - making users happy in the online html
version.
I changed a few things. Instead of MASSIVE as the PDC name I

Why can't I access Webrick web server from other computers?
Hi everyone,
I have a rails project running on Ubuntu. When I ran it on localhost
http://localhost:3000, it worked perfectly. But when I tried to access
from other computers in the same network by either http://hostname:3000
or http://[ipaddress]:3000, I got a "Internet Explorer cannot display
the webpage" error.
I double checked my ubuntu with iptables, no rules are defined:

gluster client performance
Hi-
I'm new to Gluster, but am trying to get it set up on a new compute
cluster we're building. We picked Gluster for one of our cluster file
systems (we're also using Lustre for fast scratch space), but the
Gluster performance has been so bad that I think maybe we have a
configuration problem -- perhaps we're missing a tuning parameter that
would help, but I can't find
