MS Word and Samba File Permissions Problem
Hello everybody! Obviously Samba as a PDC and Fileserver for w2k clients is not as easy as I first thought. Soon after setup and integration in a network a problem with the shares and MS Word appeared. Any time a file is opened with M$ Word directly from a share and edited it can't be saved. The M$ user gets the msg that the file is write-protected and on the samba side the file

Upgrade Trouble w/ Samba 3.0.20b
I'm currently running SUSE Pro 9.3 with samba-3.0.13-1.1-SUSE, and I'm trying to upgrade to 3.0.20b. When I try to rpm -Uvh samba-3.0.20b and samba-client-3.0.20b, I get the failed dependency "samba = 3.0.13 is needed by (installed) samba-vscan-0.3.5-37.2." How do I resolve this dependency? I'd prefer not to force it in, as that often generates more problems than it

delivering mail to public mbox with permission 660?
I am migrating a couple old RH servers running sendmail and UW-IMAP to a new Ubuntu 10.04 servers running Postfix and Dovecot. I have everything working reasonably well except that the permissions of newly created mbox mail folders is always 600. I have reviewed the archives, google, and double checked everything is as suggested in the Dovecot Wiki / SharedMailboxes / Permissions. I am

Help pls. -- Samba permission question
Hi, All, I'm having a problem with my samba server(v3.6.9) setup. I have a share on the server: #cd / #mkdir managment #chown -R root:managegroup management #chowm -R 2770 management When I test this I found out: the managegroup member can create new file/dir with the correct permission: -rwxrws--- or drwxrws--- BUT, when the client copy a file or dir to the share from his local drive,

directory mask = 2770
Hello everyone. I am using Samba 2.0.7 on a RedHat 6.2 machine. I wanted to apply a directory mask of 2770 to everything created in a share. The root directory of this share already has these permissions. I want to have it so that everything created in a certain directory has the permissions of the group of the creator. As it stands, I do have the directory mask = 2770 line in the smb.conf

AD4Unix & Samba-3.0.20b+winbind (UPDATE)
The nss_ldap has some performance problems and doesn't have any caching features that windbind does. What I was aways wondering is does IDMAP write UID/GID derived from SID to the extended schema in AD? Can winbindd use this extended schema, instead of using nss_ldap? -----Original Message----- From: samba-bounces+letz_samba=realmspace.com@lists.samba.org

force create mode / force directory mode in 3.0.13 behavior changed?
... as in they dont appear to be forcing anymore anymore ? =) I've tried on two seperate machines, slightly different configs but same statements in the stanza I was testing... Trying to force 750/640 and it appeared to work quite nicely in the past.. No other mode statements around, and according to docs, force does a bitwire OR on the mode, no AND or masking. Still, with 750/640 forced,

samba pdc premissions problem
Hello Everybody, I have samba 2.2.8a instaled on a RedHat 7.3 Gnu/Linux. I'm trying to setup a Samba as a PDC Server for Win2K/XP/98 workstations. The basic stuff did very well, everybody can join and access the domain. But now I want the shares by departments and give only access to the correct users. I tried to setup a group policy between my users and shares doing the

Odd problem with samba v.3.0.20b
Hello list, I have recently updated our companys fileserver from version 3.0.13 to 3.0.20 and shortly afterwards to 3.0.20b. Since then I have a prolem with my shares, at least the logs state that there is a problem :( The server acts as a domain member server. The domain is controlled by a Win2000 server, the clients run WinXP and Win2000. here a short passage of one logfile: [2005/10/24

Basic Setup Problem
Gentlemen: This is an embarrassingly basic problem; I'm obviously doing something fundamentally wrong. I'm running SUSE Professional 9.3 and Samba 3.0.13 (I'm trying to upgrade to 3.0.20b, but I get a dependency error--that's another story). My problem is this: I'm trying to set up John Terpstra's Example 1.2.1 from his Samba by Example (I told you this was basic),

Question about new Inherit Owner option
Apparently there's a new "Inherit Owner" option for smb.conf that allows you to configure Samba to set the owner of a new file or directory based on owner of the parent directory. That seems like a very useful feature! My question is, does "Inherit Owner" also work when you MOVE a file from one directory to another? In other words, if a file called
