Help with error message: Can't become connected user
I cannot even start troubleshooting until I buy a clue. What does
"Can't become connected user" mean?
It shows up fairly often. Aside from happening when I try to access a
share, there's no pattern that I can see.

Shorewall and an inline IDS (snort-inline or hogwash)
Is anyone using an inline IDS like hogwash or snort-inline to drop
packets in a system running shoreline? I _think_ I see how to
configure it, but I''d be really interested in finding a howto or
something...
Thanks!

RE: Shorewall and an inline IDS (snort-inline orhogwash)
I made an atempt to run snort_inline and shorewall on the same system
but I could not get snort to see the packets.
Maybe someone with a little more iptables knowledge could tell me what
I''m doing wrong or if its possible to have the systems setup so that it
places packets that the firewall would allow into QUEUE.
After setting up and starting shorewall I then issue the following

File list Performance question
I have a server running SuSE 9.3 (Samba 3.0.13-1.1). The underlying
filesystem is xfs, and the NICs are Netgear gigabit. 2 Gb of ram in a
P4/3.0 Ghz. The workstations are windows XP Pro, with all service
packs installed, on P4 3+ Ghz, 1-2 Gb of ram. (varies a bit by
workstation)
I have one particular tree on the server that contains over 12K files

eth0 & eth1 changing every boot
This is probably a stupid question, but I''m stumped. Practically
every time my firewall boots (not often, but still) eth0 and eth1
exchange places (internet and intranet). How do I lock them down?
SuSE 9.2, Shorewall 2.2.3.
Thanks!

NFS Exporting / not working ???
I'm fairly certain I'm not losing my mind, but....
I'm a very recent convert from fedora 7 to Centos 5. I had the /
filesystem exported and it worked fine. Installed Centos, dropped the
very same exports file I was using successfully into /etc, restarted
nfs, and it won't allow anyone to access. If you mount it from a
different system, the mount succeeds, but no files or

Failed to Set UID Error and Can't become connected user Error
I am certainly not an expert on Samba, so I apologize in advance for
this question if I should know the answer. A week ago our main file
server crashed and had to be replaced. Our new server is running Fedora
Core 8 and Samba 3.0.26a-6 but has been very unstable. We are running a
small network of Windows XP Pro and Home clients accessing the server
(10 clients).

Can't become connected user! - network browsing issue
Hi,
I am having an issue browsing my work group, i have made the samba
server the master browser and it wins the elections. As far as i can
tell from the nmbd.logs it is also collecting hosts for the workgroup
but when you try to list the workgroup this error is recorded in the
messages log :

Dreaded "Can't become connected User!" error
I have a dozen or more Samba 3.0x servers running, most using the tdbsam backend, but some still on the smbpasswd backend. All of the servers are RedHat, some v9, some ES3 and two are ES4.
All "seem" to be running fine, but every one of them has their log file filled with these errors.

is the domain-name in smb.conf case-sensitive?
hi list,
i try since weeks to authenticate my linux-clients against my samba-server.
This works very fine with 2 windoze-cliens. but i still cannot
authenticate with my linux-clients.
i am @office now, thats wy i ask instead to test:
i heard, winbind is used to authenticate linux-clients against the
samba-server. the wbinfo -u gives me back:
DOMAIN-user (i use the minus as separator)

Strange Behavior accessing shares
Hi List!
The following behavior was tested from Windows and smbclient, with
different user-ids. Samba is PDC. Host is FC2.
My shares:

comment = Projekte
path = /var/smb/share/Projekte
[projekteee]
comment = Projekte
path = /var/smb/share/Projekte

when I run the "net rpc vampire" I get errors for users and machines

I'm in a test env before I go live!
I'm on a gentoo distro w/ shadow.

after 3.0.9 upgrade windows wants to sync home drive
Hi,
This is more of a FYI than a request for help. thanks. 8)
I upgraded our 3.0.x servers to 3.0.9 due to bugs which we were
running across. This happened at about 7AM, a few hours before anyone
starts arriving at work. The mornings are one of the most taxing times
on our servers as everyone is loading profiles, and they review what

Samba 4.0.3 on CentOS 6.3 as PDC.
Any help here? I have included all of the output of the suggested diags that Thomas said I should run, but I admit that I'm not sure what I'm looking for, as I'm not familiar with RPC functionality on Linux. Something is not working with RPC on my Samba 4.0.3 server. (FWIW, it doesn't work with IPTables stopped either.)
