Failing to store a SAM_ACCOUNT for [root] without a primary group RID
OK.
I've given up on using the 'net vampire' feature to suck our NT4 info.
Now I want to start afresh.
I've set the smb.conf file up, and run the script I found in the HTML
docs to map common Windows Domain groups to unix groups. This worked OK.
Now I want to create a root account so I can actually join the domain
from a Windows 2000 client.

Samba PDC Server Local SID, Domain SID, and GROUP RID Question
Hi,
I have a question regarding an issue I am having with our new
Samba PDC. We used to be running an NT domain controller and about
two months ago, I made the transition to a Debian linux box running
Samba. The PDC is currently running Samba 3.0.8.
My samba PDC is using the tdbsam backend and, for the most part
is working flawlessly. However, when using smbpasswd to add samba accounts,

pdbedit: importing smbpasswd to tdbsam
Hi there,
I'm trying to import a smbpasswd-file into a Samba 3.0 installation on Debian
Sarge using tdbsam as sole passdb backend.
Copying pdbedit's documentation I used
pdbedit -i smbpasswd:/root/smbpasswd.old
The error message returned was tdb_update_sam: Failing to store a SAM_ACCOUNT
for [foo] without a primary group RID
where foo is the username to be imported.

Root user problems with Samba 3.0.0beta1
Hello
Anytime I try to do anything with the root user (like join the domain) or
run 'net user' or 'net group' with root, when I enter the correct
password, I get NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL ....
I've been trying more commands, and if I run tdbedit -e=tdbsam (to export
the smbpasswd to tdbsam style), I get this error :

Unable to add machine
Hi All,
I have a setup using tdbsam as a backend, I can add accounts using

Working with Samba 3.0 on rh9. Set up samba to use tdbsam (small network,
maybe 30-40 users tops) and be a PDC for the internal network. Will be
joining machines to this domain. My smb.conf file has been configured to
use tdbsam as the backend, and with an add machine script, add user

However, using the command:

Debian asterisk-bristuff
I apologise now if I have managed to completely misunderstand this whole
subject!
I've built a small PC and loaded Etch 4.0 from the netinst cd.
I did 'apt-get install asterisk-bristuff' which seemed to work
but, it doesn't seem to have installed any files/modules for zaptel?

I am using a billion hfc card
Any pointers?

Group Mappings
Samba 3.6.2
My Domain Admins, including root, don't get admin permissions on local PCs.
My Windows 7 clients can join the domain but when I look in the
Administrators group it shows the sid for the Domain Admins group (RID =
512) and the icon has a question mark
net groupmap list seems OK
Any ideas where to look next?
TIA
Simon

[PATCH] Group mapping primary group SID update
Hi all !
This is a patch for Group mapping bug #1 reported here :
http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba-technical/2004-January/034057.html
It activates users' primary group SID update when adding/modifying/deleting a
group mapping. It patches utils/net_groupmap.c (net_groupmap_add,
net_groupmap_modify, net_groupmap_delete) and can be applied to samba-3.0.2rc1.

Hi
I have folowed this guide
http://www.enterprisenetworkingplanet.com/netos/article.php/3457461 to
import users from my NT4 domain to a debian sarge with samba 3.0.14a
Everything runs fine till the net rpc vampire command, some users give

I don't see any problem on this users configuration in the NT4 server,

upgraded to 3.6.2
Hi Folks,
I have upgraded my very stock Ubuntu 8.04.4 running 3.0.28a to 3.6.2 by
compiling in place as per these notes:
http://www.jeremycole.com/blog/2009/12/01/upgrade-samba-3-0-28a-to-3-4-3-on-ubuntu-8-04-lts/
Worked a treat - big respect to the team.
However, I am struggling a little with group mapping
net groupmap list used to show the half dozen or so groups but now it
doesn't
