oplocks and pagemaker files
SuSE 7.2, Samba 2.2.6
User plaform WIN98se
Was wondering if someone could point me to information regarding oplocks (I
read the man on smb.conf regarding that and level2 oplocks)...
I needed to set oplocks = no and level2 oplocks = no in order for them to
be able to open pagemaker files from the samba server...otherwise it would
say 'can not open file'
I am just trying to get a grip on

Disabling Oplocks and SMB2
Hello,
We are running some legacy software that instructs us to, via Windows registry settings, disable all oplocks and SMB2 entirely on each Windows workstation that connects to the Samba share where the software is hosted. The software maintainers give dire warners of corruption, etc., if oplocks (and SMB2) are left enabled.
We?ve run this software off of a Samba share for 20 years and have

level2 oplocks problem
Dear all,
We have samba-3.0.11 on freebsd 5.4 as file/print server
it works perfect, but if two users open the same file together
the second still can write to the file it cannot be allowed in you
situation.
But the other server with freebsd 4.11 doesn't have this problem
perfectly do write lock on open file, so may be it's freebsd 5.x problem?
I can't find what's wrong,

samba and oplocks and office applications
I'm using samba version 2.2.1a on a linux RH7.2 kernel 2.4.7-10.
I'm having a lot of oplock problems, specially when using office
applications like word.
I would like to know:
1. what is the recommended configuration in version 2.2.1a (oplocks = yes/no
, level2 oplocks = yes/no , kernel oplocks = yes/no)
2. what is considered to be a stable version for oplocks usage
Thanks,
Nir

Seeking help with Samba shares & OPLOCKS & Quickbooks databases
I thought I had things figured out, but guess not. I have multi-user
Quickbooks databases that functioned fine on a Novell server but are
behaving badly on a Samba share. I have created a separate share for the
Quickbook databases, users are running Win XP Pro, latest patches, and the
Quickbooks application installed on the desktop. It is a multiuser version.
Server is RedHat ES 3, Samba

oplocks and Excel
I have a small business client with a new samba file server. It's
CentOS 4.2 and Samba samba-3.0.10-1.4E.2.
When they save open Excel files from Windows, they are prompted to
overwrite the existing file. I mean, when they click the little disk
icon or use Ctrl-S or File--Save. Excel would normally just write over
the file, not check with an "are you sure?" prompt. But that's

Oplocks...again...
I would like to know if like the [homes] section mapped to a single user
at login time (H: drive) would have any of the problems discussed in
previous emails.
Specifically the oplock break issue. Since one and only one user can have
this space mapped in our implementation (because of credential conflicts
that windows does not allow), how could a user have a detrimental
experience with oplocks?

dabase file and oplocks
Hi all,
I'm using a Linux server (A) with samba 3.0.28 which exports a directory that
contains database files (Dataflex .dat files) and that are mounted by a Linux
machine (B) that runs Samba 3.0.2. Now the problem is that the files are
corrupted when accessed by the machine B, even if the machine A exports the
directory with oplocks = no, kernel oplocks = no and level2 oplocks = no.

Level 2 Oplocks.
I know in 2.0.5a, level2 oplocks were broken. Can I safely use them in 2.0.6? I
recall getting a performance increase when using them.

Samba kills network.
When i try to swap files between disks on my server using samba i get
errors: then windows reports "The specified network name is no longer
available". Sometimes the copies are fine other times files just wont
copy. Hardware checks out fine. Ive even replaced the network cable
between server and switch thinking that might be causing the problem.
Ive included a ethereal cap of the

net join problems
My last install of Samba was 3.2.2 on Solaris 10 Sparc platform. Had no
problems. I'm now trying to install 3.4.0 on Solaris 10 x86 platform.
With 3.2.2 I would join our Windows domain as such:
net join -S servername -w DOMAIN_NAME -U username
All worked fine. Now with 3.4.0 I'm getting usage error trying to do the
same thing. Here is my config:
# ./testparm

Race Condition cont'd
Thank you Paul for your response. Perhaps I can give a bit more info:
RS/6000 H50 w/AIX 4.3.2 running Samba 2.0.5a
PIII-450 NT4sp4 w/128MB
I indicated yesterday that a race condition appeared to be happening. I later
remembered that I turned on level2 oplocks on two read only shares as the last
tunings we did before this began to happen. I got the info from the Speed.txt
document in hopes of

2 Samba problems (oplock & hosts allow)
Hello everybody,
I have 2 questions about Samba operation:
First, hostnames don't work in my "hosts allow"
directive, although smb.conf(5) explicitly says "You
can specify the hosts by name or IP
number". If I specify a client by its name, that
client is not allowed access, even though the server
can do reverse DNS on the client's IP. The message I
get in the
