Slow Access Database on Samba
Dear All,
We have an access database running on a Samba share (Samba version
3.0.10-1.4E) with a gigabit connection to the network. The front end of the
databases are on the client machines with linked tables stored in a separate
mdb file on the linux server.
For some reason the database runs very slowly when it is set up in this way.
I tested copying a 10 MB file onto the samba share and it

SOLVED - Re: login to ms access db very slow on samba 3.x
Hello everybody, Hi Jorge
We have found a solution to the problem I've posted earlier to this
mailing list; see below for the full history. There was a function in our
runtime application which would rebuild all links to external access
tables each time the application was started. To keep it short, we're
checking the presence of a certain value when starting (in the windows

Saving files with MS Word to samba3 server is very slow!
Hi!
I'm currently hunting a strange problem and looking for help!
I have a samba3 fileserver (currently samba-3.0.20b, but problem can
be reproduced with samba-3.0.7, but _not_ with samba2 like 2.2.8a),
and I see performance problems when writing files with MS word 2002 SP3
from a NT4.0 (SP6a) workstation. Saving even the smallest file takes more
than 10 seconds! Copying files with Windows

Extremely slow Samba3 performance with ArcView/WinXP
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi!
I have a user who is running a Samba server to store data
files for his ArcView 3.3 application. Client operating
system is Windows XP professional.
With Samba2 (2.2.8a) this was working quite fine, it usually
took less than a few seconds to load and render one of the
GIS presentations with ArcView.
We then did an upgrade to Samba3 (3.0.20b)

userPassword in a LDAP database of a Samba3 domain
Hi folks,
I have been able to migrate a WinNT4 domain to a Samba3 PDC domain using
openldap as a backend and smbldap-tools to vampire the WinNT4 domain (pretty
much following Samba3 by Example and documentation in smbldap project by IDEALX).
Nevertheless, all 600 users migraged from the WinNT4 domain have attributes like
these on the ldap database:
userPassword: {crypt}x

Very slow network after Samba3 upgrade with 2k clients.
anyone having, had, or even have any thoughts on the issue described
below? its killing me....
The short description of the problem is: using direct to server UNC
type paths, we see 'normal' speeds. Going threw a DFS (re)director,
we see very bad performance from any machine running 3.0.*, but not 2.2.3a.
We make heavy use of DFS. This service is on a machine named

Shares Samba3 in Samba4
Hello,
I did the installation of Samba4 classicupgrade. Made to import the
users and groups according to wiki.
Added another Samba4 as a member and in it put the old smb.conf to care.
See all shares on the network but can not access the shares of former
Samba3.

Samba pdc with ldap & samba3-3.0.25c-34 on CentOS 5
Hi all,
I had been running a Samba pdc using the standard tdbsam backend on
CentOS 4.5 supporting 20+ WinXPsp2 workstations and a Win2k3 Terminal
Server. This set up was running fine for arroung 18 months maybe more.
The above system was built on ageing hardware that used to be a Win 2k
server that died from OS corruption.
Due to the expanding client needs there was good reason to replace

Very slow initial opening MS-Word and MS-Excel files from Samba
The first time a Word or Excel file is opened, i.e., when either Word or
Excel have not been actively running "recently" (like, say for several
minutes or more), the time it takes to start the application and load
the file seem inordinately long.
Once the first evolution is complete, files open more-or-less instantly
if I close the first document but leave either app running (but

security=share, write / read-only mix doesn't work on Samba3
Hi,
I'm having trouble migrating from Samba2 to Samba3. I'm trying to make
a share that allows some users read-only access, and others
read-write. In version 2.2 this worked, but not in version 3.
I'm pretty sure it's my configuration, but I ran into this link on the
samba bugzilla site, and now I don't know.

samba3 to Win 2003, signing mandatory but disabled?
I am trying to get samba working again, since my employer upgraded to a
Windows Server 2003.
I have installed samba-3.0.2a-1_rh9.i386.rpm to my Linux (RedHat 9) system.
I can connect to other machines in my domain, read/write files, etc. When I
try smbmount on the Windows server, I get this error:
cli_negprot: SMB signing is mandatory and we have disabled it.
I have tried enabling SMB

Two MS Access questions (compact database & Access XP)
We're in the process of replacing an ailing NT box with a Linux one
running Samba (Red Hat 7.3 w/ kernel 2.4.18-18.7.xsmp [from Red Hat] and
samba version 2.2.7, with a variety of Win2k boxes connecting to it) and I
have a couple of quick MS Access questions (in the hopes someone out there
has had any experience with these things):
1) We have one rather large (700MB+) Access database on

could not find a solution to our problem. please excuse if we overlooked
something and our question was already answered elsewhere...

MS Access macro's running very slowly
Hi,
I?ve recently migrated to a Samba3 server and everything seems to be running
well apart from a problem with some users that run macros in MS Access.
I?m told that a process which used to take 15min on the old W2K server took
over an hour on the new samba box.
After having a scan through the archives I think the problem may be related
to oplocks/locking but I?m pretty sure I?ve got these
