database got corrupted, users could not login
I'm running Samba with LDAP on SuSE. Users had trouble logging in - finally
I just ran db_recover & restarted ldap and samba. It looks like the LDAP
database got corrupted somehow because samba couldn't get the LDAP data.
Also I created accounts with smbldap-useradd -m -a -B 1 username. Some of
the users were just using the same password samba seemed to kick them out. I

samba, nss and openldap
Hello list!
I would like to setup up a PDC based on openldap.
I am running Debian Testing with Samba 3.0.7-Debian and OpenLDAP 2.1.30-3.
But i got stuck with one problem: I cant join a Domain if i haven`t
added a unix machine$.
If i use:
add machine script = /usr/sbin/useradd -d /dev/null -g 100 -s
/bin/false -M %u && /usr/sbin/smbldap-useradd -w "%u"

This helped me a little bit forward. I suggest to add this line also to
samba-pdc help.
But still I ran into problems.
I fixed the passdb lines on PDC and BDC. If the second server (on PDC

BDC and ldap set-up problem
Hi,
I could use some confirmation on my approach to configuring my BDC. I
want the user to be able to access shares on the BDC and have their
domain credentials stamped on any files they create. I do not want to
add domain users to the /etc/passwd file. At the moment users can
authenticate onto the domain but once they try and access a share on
the BDC, these XP users get a dialogue box asking

Cannot log in to domain
Hi folks,
Just yesterday, my Samba installation on OpenSlug suddenly stopped
working, out of the blue. Now, users on my WinXP SP2 systems cannot
under any circumstances log in to the domain. Local Windows users
however can map shares with no problem.
When a domain user attempts to log on to a domain member PC (joining
the domain works fine, by the way), they are denied with the generic

Samba3.0.1pre3 LDAP Login problem
Hi
I read all the HOWTOs I could find on the net about the LDAP PDC and
still, I can't get it to work.
Here are some infos about the server
Samba version 3.0.1pre3 running Redhat 8.0 with a OpenLDAP server
version 2.0.27.
I want to do a new domain named DOMAINB from the users I imported from
DOMAINA (NT4 PDC) using net rpc vampire.
It went well and every user is in the DB, including the

Weird behaviour of one Win7 user
Hello list,
I have a samba 3.5.6 running on a Debian squeeze machine. This box is running
since more than a year without any problems.
Since a couple of days we have the following problem.
One Win7 user doesn't get his user profile any more
The log file tells:

getpwnam() fails with winbind on samba pdc
Hello List,
I've been running into the following winbind problem and would really
appreciate if anyone could give me a hint here:
I'm currently using Samba 2.2.7a as a fileserver (domain member),
user-authentication is done on a WinNT 4.0 PDC. The Samba fileserver
is running winbind so all the users need not be created locally.
Now I want to replace the old Samba version with Samba

Cannot authenticate new ldap users (unless they are in /etc/passwd too)
Hi,
I migrated a PDC to use an ldap backend and am having fun with a few last
issues..
Existing user accounts and machine accounts were migrated, and existing
users can authenticate.
Now I've added some new users and none of them can authenticate.
e.g. for the user "inktec".
The user can login via SSH, but not mount a share:
smbclient \\\\server3\\someshare -U=inktec mypassword

windows 7 machine account fails to authenticate against samba PDC
Hello all,
I've added my windows7 client to the domain (samba running as pdc),
having applied the registry changes identified here
(http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Windows7).
Partial success - domain users can login and see shares etc, BUT:
1 - the registry settings in ntlogon/NTConfig.POL are not applied. Am I
right in thinking that windows 7 ignores this policy?
And if so I therefore

Samba 3.0.24 + OpenLDAP
I'm using the above version of Samba with OpenLDAP. I also use the
smbldap-useradd script to add users, like below. I'm finding that I also
have to have an account in /etc/passwd for the user to get in otherwise I
get the message below. I thought that the ldapsam:ldap://localhost/ would
not require the /etc/passwd entry. What did I miss?

Samba BDC + LDAP failing to authenticate users
I have Samba 3.2.4 running on Solaris 10 from sunfreeware. From what I
can tell just recently happened to this server, which runs as a BDC +
LDAP. Previously I have been able to authenticate against it as well
as map drives from it. Though now it complains about no such user
exists, though they do.
