synchronise time
Hi,
in my logon.bat file i put : net time \\admin /SET /YES to synchronise
computer time with the server.
This works when the user who is login in has administrator rights on the
computer.
How can i do with users who are just "member of the domain"? Is there a
way to run this command "as administrator" ?
Thanks for any help

login scripts do not run
I have a simple script that sets the time on a Windows client at
startup.
The one-line script:
net time \\myhost /set /yes
Works perfectly well when I double-click it from Windows Explorer, so I
don't think the problem lies there.
The relevant lines in my smb.conf file:
[global]
time server = yes
logon script = smbtimeset.BAT
[netlogon]
comment = shared scripts

NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED with ADS + Kerberos
I'm trying to setup Samba in ADS security mode so I can run winbind for
NSS and Kerberos for user authentication, chiefly for shell accounts for
developers. These hosts will not provide any file or printer services,
at least in the near-term.
My hosts are CentOS 3 (a free RHEL3 clone) and my ADS servers are Windows 2000
(not 2003), in hybid mode. I am using stock RPMs for both Kerberos and

allowing users to install printers
What is the easiest way to allow normal users to install printers (which
are available through a Samba server)?
Normally, Windows 2000 and XP need to have a printer installed by the
admin first on a given workstation - only the it can be used by the user.
I want to allow the user to install own printers.
Now, when one trises to right click on a printer on a server and
"connect", he

Netlogon Service Privileged Account
Hey all,
Let me first start by saying everything is working as expected so far!
This is about my login script being shared from the netlogon directory.
My XP client sees and executes the 99% of the script. The last little
bit is permissions-related.
In my logon.vbs script I am attempting to set the registry key to
disable offline folder syncs. A "Domain User" cannot uncheck this

local admin rights for roaming profiles
Hi.
I have a samba server designed to PDC on my network. The roaming
profiles is enabled and work fine. But some apps used from the samba
server share, apparently need to the user in the station have admin
privileges. Im enabling in the station (XP or Win7) the admin
privileges to the station asigned user (DOMAIN\user) but in that case,
the roaming profile is not a complete solution, because

How to assign Administrator's rights?
Most of my users (unfortunately me included) need to use a bloated,
badly designed piece of sh^Hoftware that only works with administrator's
rights (I won't say names but it's from a big german company strongly
pushing for software patents).
How can I assign those users Administrator's rights without phisically
going to each machine?
I cold put them in the 'Domain

Permission problems writing to Share from SQL Agent
Hello:
I have a client that is using MS SQL Server in a Windows 2003
server.
They have a Linux machine (Fedora Core 3) that is acting as a file
server using Samba.
We want to write backups from the SQL Agent for SQL Server to
one of the shares on the Samba server.
If I set the share to allow guest access, the SQL Agent
can write the backups just fine using \\Shares\SQLBackups\pubs.bak
but, if

is this a DNS resolution problem ?
Hi list,
I encounter a problem again, which I thought resolved : when joining a
domain, sometimes the workstation says it cannot join, or the domain
does not exist, or something like that, because there is a DNS
resolution probleme. I read the Micro$oft documentation listed in the
error message
(http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/dns/tshoot/dns_tshoot2A.asp)
I solved the problem, the

logon scripts by group
Hi,
I am having a hard time figuring out how to have logon scripts that only
execute if the user is a member of a certain group. I had the smart idea of
putting the supplemental logon script in a share only available to the group,
and then calling it from the normal logon script using "CALL
"path_to_script". However it looks like it always executes that CALL even if

distribute/deploy software to clients
Hello,
I run a Windows domain based on Samba 3 and I am searching for a way to
distribute/deploy software to clients.
I.e., a user logging on to a client, software should be automatically
installed or upgraded. Is there any common solution? I heard of MSI
packages, but I don't know if it is necessary to create MSI packages of
all installations...
Thanks

[PATCH 0/5] Various MIPS fixes
Hi,
I noticed that klibc started crashing on 64-bit MIPS and in my quest to fix the
bug I got a bit carried away and fixed a few other things as well. Here are
various miscellaneous MIPS patches, although the first patch is the important
one.
Thanks,
James

jbod questions
Folks,
We are in the process of purchasing new san/s that our mail server
runs on (JES3). We have moved our mailstores to zfs and continue to
have checksum errors -- they are corrected but this improves on the
ufs inode errors that require system shutdown and fsck.
So, I am recommending that we buy small jbods, do raidz2 and let zfs
handle the raiding of these boxes. As we need more

ZFS Evil Tuning Guide
Tuning should not be done in general and Best practices
should be followed.
So get very much acquainted with this first :

Then if you must, this could soothe or sting :

So drive carefully.

deployment of software
I have Samba and about 40 WinXP Clientes running.
Now I?m trying to find a way to deploy software (for example
updates of E-Mail Client, Windows Patches) to my Clients.
I was playing around with AutoIt and some "switch-user-tools" for
windows, which really works but also is kind of complicated and time
consuming.
In my environment, every user got his own Logonscript on the Linuxserver

netlogon runas Administrator problem solved
Hi Sambatistas,
a few days ago there was a discussion, how to force
jobs runas administrator at netlogon.
If you use a default.bat at netlogon this is executed
as the logon user , therefor you are running in rights problems
if you wanna execute job which need admin right like regedit /s .
I found myself in this problem too, pushing
the user to use the logon screensaver as default,
i created a reg
