Proper use of SID's and LDAPon dc's?
I have two samba dc's, same subnet, the goal is to have them both be able to answer domain login requests and therefore if one goes down we still have the ability to login to the domain. Can this be done with samba? if so could you just tell me generally the procedure for this? heres what I have right now. server1, openldap master, samba points to loopback for ldap server2, openldap replica,

Issue logging on in a samba + ldap environment
Ok I narrowed down the problem I am having here... I have a master ldap server and a replica ldap server. If I point the DC at the master logins don't work, I get a "domain cannot be found" type message. If however I point it at the replica it works just fine. On both servers multiple other services also use ldap, they all work fine with either server, I have phpldapadmin on both

macintosh file clutter on samba filesystems.
I have a client who has a bunch of macs accessing some samba shares, and they write these ._filename and .DS_STORE files all over the place, he would perfer it to not write these files at all. Anyone ran into this issue? what would be the best way to prevent these files from getting written onto the shares? veto? -- Matt Pruett <entelin@logicaldreams.net>

Domain cannot be contacted
I have setup two samba domain controllers, both have basicly the same configs and use the same ldap database backend. Often however when logging in users will get a "domain cannot be contacted" error, attempting to login multiple times will eventually get them in and it will work fine from then on. The question is, is there anything else I really need to do to make this work correctly?

idealx dual head patch?
i have two domain controllers, both have openldap, server1 can write to the ldap database and pushes that to server2 which can only read. In the smbldap.conf file it reads... # Notes: to use to dual ldap servers backend for Samba, you must patch # Samba with the dual-head patch from IDEALX. If not using this patch # just use the same server for slaveLDAP and masterLDAP. # Those two servers

configuring samba-LDAP-PDC using IDEALX tools
I am using smbldap-tool from IDEALX on my Fedora Core 1 samba 3.0.5 PDC. I have been following their guide step by step and I am getting the following error message as I try to get SID. I have looked in google group, but I couldn't exactly find anybody who had the same problem as I do. Please help me if you can! [root@pdc smbldap-tools]# net getlocalsid [2004/06/17 10:53:57, 0]

a little problem with net getlocalsid
My samba PDC is working very well. I only have an 'theoretical' question (I think). When I run 'net getlocalsid my-pdc', it fails (see below). I think this is because someday the name of my pdc was other! In fact 'net getlocalsid my-old-pdc-name' works! and that output is the same output obtained from running 'net getlocalsid my-domain' (as written on the

net getlocalsid: some questions
Hello, Is it possible to get the SID of a domain different than the one your server is in? e.g.: net getlocalsid ==> gives you the sid of the domain your server is in. but suppose you would like to know the SID of another domain. net getlocalsid DOMAIN2 ==> samba3 does not give the SID [root@server root]# net getlocalsid DOMAIN2 [2003/09/29 11:59:04, 0] utils/net.c:net_getlocalsid(414)

I am using the following guide: http://vermeulen.ca/linux-windows-nt.html I installed a fresh copy of FC11 and installed samba 3 through yum. No local SID -- net getlocalsid fails
Hi, I'm trying to get Samba 3.0.2a running on a redhat 9 system. No matter how long I leave samba running it fails to generate a local SID for my network and I'm stumpped. The following is a dump of my smb.conf [root@omega samba]# net getlocalsid [2004/04/18 14:59:21, 0] utils/net.c:net_getlocalsid(422) Can't fetch domain SID for name: OMEGA Regards John [root@omega samba]#

BDC nmblookup and net getlocalsid not working
Hi, After lots of struggle and rtfm I finally got most things running, except for 'nmblookup' and 'net getlocalsid' on the BDC. I'm not new to Samba, but plenty more to learn. Here's the setup in summary: system pdc is the PDC on subnet 192.168.0.0, running SuSE10.1, LDAP master, wins server, domain master browser, no iptables; system bdc is the BDC on subnet 192.168.2.0,

net getlocalsid can't fetch domain SID?
I'm running into an odd problem with my installation of samba, version 3.0.13. Samba is configured to use the tdbsam backend and is running as a PDC. The issue is that samba can't seem to report its SID correctly: # net getlocalsid [2005/07/08 12:27:30, 0] utils/net.c:net_getlocalsid(494) Can't fetch domain SID for name: DOMSERVR but, running an alternate command: # net rpc info

Problems setting up Samba+LDAP PDC in Debian Sarge
Dear list, I have been struggling to get working a PDC using Samba with LDAP backend, in a fresh Debian Sarge install. 1. SeMachineAccountPrivilege I'm reading IDEALX's Linux Samba-OpenLDAP Howto as guidance. net getlocalsid problem
Hi I decided after some testing and experimenting, to move the production servers from 2.2.x to 3.0. so I've installed samba3.0 in paralel with the old binaries. To start the migration I wanted to save the old domain SID, to can make the migration as transparent as possible, so I did: net3 -d 10 -I 127.0.0.1 getlocalsid while the old binaries are still runing all that I've got

Ldap PDC NT4 Redhat 9 domain problems
I'm running into some domain problems setting up Windows NT 4.0, Samba 3.0 (from source), OpenLDAP 2.0.27 and RedHat 9. I can't get a workstation to join the domain: when I attempt to join the domain from the workstation add machine gui with username and password, I'm told "The machine account for this computer either does not exist or is inaccessible"- but the add machine

Re: samba Digest, Vol 55, Issue 18
What's wrong with WARLOCK? Just kidding. If you don't like it, change it, but do expect problems. It's not something you will find a recipee for in a How-to book. The SETLOCALSID changes only the LOCAL SID, not the GLOBAL SID, for which we would probably need SETGLOBALSID. When I faced the same problem, I did something really wrong but it worked. I copy-pasted the LOCAL SID to the
