Create Organizational units (OU) from Unix.
Hello, Is there a way to create an OU (in the AD sence) from Unix with the samba tools ? I have made a script that create all my users and groups (for a school). But I still need to create the OUs manually from windows with RSAT. Thanks. Baptiste.

Questions about ldap organizational units
Environment is Samba as a PDC, OpenLDAP backend, with smbldap-tools providing the scripts to manipulate the data. What are the recommended/mandated organizational units (OU=) for user, computer, group info. I'm pretty sure that groups go in ou=Groups, but I am confused about where user and computer data goes. I have seen ou=People, ou=Computers, and ou=Users in various places. Which is it

Please translate M$ speak: create a new organizational unit
Hi All, I am a bit new to Samba PDC. When a M$ tech article says: "Use Active Directory Users and Computers to create a new organizational unit (OU)". What does this mean in Samba PDC talk? Please translate. Many thanks, -T I have a lot of guesses, but I want to hear it from someone who has already done it.

using %d as a variable in the ldap search base
If you already tested %d in the ou of the auth user bind, and it is not working. I guess you are just left with options like 1. 3 different vm's 2. auth bind = no base, scope subtree that is parent of those 3 ou's and then apply filters something like pass_filter = (&(objectClass=posixAccount)(uid=%n)(ou:dn:=%d)) 3. investigate if nslcd(/ssss?) has an option to use multiple queries

Set/Restrict Owner Rights for OU-Admin
Hello everyone, we are in the process of changing from a Windows Domain to a Samba Domain and tried to implement some restrictions for OU-Admins. In the Windows Domain those restrictions can be implemented with Security ID: S-1-3-4 (Owner Rights). In our old Windows Domain everything works fine and as expected. In our Samba Domain, it doesnt work. We tried to implement the same rights as in

using %d as a variable in the ldap search base
I'm trying to use auth bind to avoid having a plain text password in a config file. With %u instead of %n, the @domain part of the login ends up in the uid field of the search filter. As I said, my OUs have overlapping users, so I have configured things such that the users are logging in with user at domain, and need to get the domain component into the search base as you cannot filter on

user-group mapping not inherited from Windows-Domain?
Dear I have the following Problem: we have a windows domain (WIN2000 SP1), and a samba Server, acting as a mere client. So the WIN-DOMAIN is just used for user-to-group mapping and user authentification. Authentication on the samba-Server works, ACL inheritance works. What I would like to do, is to allow write access to ceratin groups, wich are defined in the windows domain. Other groups may

SUMMARY: Can't 'save-as' from MS Word
Thanks a million to Wendell Wilson, who offered a solution to the problem we've been seeing regarding saving a document in MS Word. I know we really do need to upgrade to at least 2.2.6, and I am planning it - but this gives us little more breathing room with everything else going on. Once again, appreciate your help! --Gene Original Question: At 04:35 PM 11/14/2002 -0800, I wrote:

Automating creation of OUs, security groups and GPOs, in Samba AD DC
Hai Mason, I only dont have the time to work this out now. But the 2 Stefan'ss have done this part. Script + proxymod : Stefan Kania, ask him if he is willing to share his vagrant vm setup. Preseed+script: Stefan W. : https://gist.github.com/stefangweichinger/66bfc5c6518c3838e5834287c681ae80 Look at line 220. You could change that to a script you make. And with something like this

using %d as a variable in the ldap search base
Hi, I'm trying to configure dovecot to use LDAP authentication directly, and I'm having a bit of trouble. I have a somewhat unusual setup, in that I have an LDAP directory that has 3 OUs each of which have their own set of users, some of which overlap. As I was trying to figure things out, I was setting the search base in my /etc/dovecot/dovecot-ldap.conf.ext file which is referenced

What options do I have to create OUs and ACLs in Samba4?
I need to create a couple of OUs under Users to separate my internal users from my external users that have LDAP backed accounts so I can put ACLs over the external users so I can limit what they can see on the tree. What options do I have to create the OUs and the ACLs in a Samba4 AD-DC domain?

ACLs on OUs
Hi all, When created through RSAT OUs receive, by default, ACLs to refuse removal. When created through LDIF and ldbadd OUs do not receive these ACLs. Is there a way to create these ACLs using command line tools? Cheers, mathias
